This universal fit roof rack lets you transport skis, snowboards, a kayak, or similarly sized gear on your vehicle with a naked roof. Thick, foam padding protects gear and your roof. Load straps and tie-down ropes included. This inexpensive, removable rack is the BOMB!! I love it! ?? You can put your kayak right side up or upside down on this but I prefer mine upside down. I tried both ways. If you’re gonna put it right side up, make sure you use the ropes that tie to the ends of the front and back tips of the kayak for extra security. I only needed the two ratchet straps that came with it and substituted an extra strong ratchet strap that I purchased, and put that in the middle. However, my kayak is only 9 feet long. If yours is longer, you may want to use the front and back ropes. Also when the Kayak is right side up, more wind gets under it which is why I like mine upside down. I’m glad I didn’t spend hundreds of dollars modifying my vehicles roof... honestly it wasn’t an option because my car is leased. This is great!!
I hate this padded roof system. Firstly, the kayak kept sliding backward and forward as I drove my car. Secondly, the padded pieces made indentations on my roof when I strapped my kayak to the roof. Thirdly, the straps that go through the car windows to keep the padded pieces in place got wet in the rain and water dripped onto the seats of my car. I am now using them for their intended purpose, padding under my kayak while it rests on the floor of my deck.
these racks are the absolute best solution to my rooftop problem on my sienna van. I needed a flexable system which was quick and easy to set up, yet secure enough for worry free driving. These racks are larger than other portable systems giving me the confidence that my load is safe and secure.
This product fits my needs perfectly, as I only need a rack for my kayak 3-4 times a year, and I don't want a rack on my truck permanently. This is really easy to put on and take off, and is significantly less expensive that a permanent rack.
Awful product. I have had them for less than 4 months and 3 of the straps on the pads have broken. Not what I expected from Yakima, which has a good reputation for quality. Would never buy a Yakima product again.
I have had this for a year and used it for all sorts of stuff; I've carried my kayak, doors, windows, lumber, futon frame, etc!! It is really easy to put on and off, the straps are great quality and easy to use. I love it!
Exactly what I needed and when in needed it. Hassle free order, shipment and setup to get me going out on the water! Will be using for kayaks and more with how easy this is to setup, one downside is the head room kept touching my head on the strap and thought I had a bug in my hair (lol).
I was looking for a roof rack I could use on my two door Scion tC. I was worried that it wouldn't have enough space between the racks to work, but it did! we got it today and put two 8 ft surfboards on it, it worked great. There was no whistling it was very quiet. The customer service is great too, when I had issues with my order I didn't have to wait on hold and the issue was solved quickly! I would buy again!!
Brilliant idea!
Great height. Clears the fin antenna easily.
The through cab straps are wide and sturdy.
D-ring tie downs are efficient, excess strap can be threaded through and tied off.
Padding is firm and it can hold multiple boards.
Great product!
Used these to go on a ski trip; the rack is easy to install, and is very stable- no problem with things wiggling around on the highway, no noticeable wind noise. It's a minor hassle to strap skis in and back out, it's not a quick operation. The rack left no marks on my paint. My only real complaint is that in rainy or snowy weather, the straps wick moisture into the cabin, and will drip water on your rear seat, or in my case, rear passengers.
I drive a Scion tC and the racks themselves are good for the limited space available on my car. However, the straps that come with the rack are cam-style straps, not ratchets, meaning they don’t lock in place and are only held by a flimsy metal clamp - I found that the clamp for the cam straps was giving way under and I had a hard time getting a secure tie down on my 60lb kayak. A LOT of movement. Rack good, straps suck. Get some good ones elsewhere that lock down if you don’t want a flyin yak or a busted windshield.
It is cheap
It is always in my trunk
It’s hidden gem, rack stores do not carry this item
Good for occasional use: Home Depot materials, suitcase, snowboards, even paddle board.
So far, so good. I have used it twice and the assembly onto the car was super easy. The instructions were clear. I am going to be mostly using it for a kayak and then skis in the winter time.
They are perfect and priced right.
Just right. Especially for short trips.
Arrived this morning and had it on the car and loaded with 2 SUPs within 30 minutes - super easy and very robust!
