An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

2017 Ram 3500

Easy install took about 20 minutes on my 2017 Ram 3500 SRW. Had about 1/2 inch clearance as recommended. Loaded up my 5th wheel (2350 hitch weight) and about 200 lbs of gear in the bed. Just got back from a 800 mile camping trip through mountains of TN. You can really feel the difference around those sharp corners and uneven surfaces. The truck felt firm and controlled not hard and jarring as some have mentioned. Going over those overpasses with the wonderfully smooth (Not) joists was greatly improved. The truck would squat and rebound again, with a firm controlled response. Driving without a load felt the same as before without them. I would highly recommend these! Ordering from etrailer continues to be my go to option!

2010 Ram 3500

So just got them installed today 3/27/24 haven't hooked up the 5th wheel yet but will be this weekend so we'll find out if they are good as everyone claims they are fingers crossed. Install was crazy simple took about 30min(had to find a wrench) have about 1/2in gap between the axle, really excited to test them. Will update the review after this weekend.

They helped alot with the side to side sway and the rearend scwat.I hall a arctic fox 1150 truck camper that is really heavy

by:

Really easy to install and incredible product quality. I’ve had so many issues with airbags I’m excited to try something different that is built to last and low maintenance. Thank you for an incredible product!!!

by:

Went together easily. Hardest part was getting old hardware offtruck. After that it was a breeze. You might want to reconsider using usps to deliver package. Box was all but destroyed and held together with some scotch tape- half of the bolts were missing but no problem as i used old hardware off of truck.

I have used Timberns on 2 other vehicles, a Toyota 4Runner and an S10 Blazer with out complaint.

I transport RVs as a contractor for an RV transport company. My truck is 2021 Ram 3500 crew cab, 6.7 diesel.

Because the weight of the units is different with each unit I haul I wanted an easy, no maintenance solution to maintain as level a ride as possible. I haul both bumper pull and 5th wheel units. In addition to the weight of the unit I'm hauling I can carry 110 gallons of fuel with both the factory fuel tank and my auxiliary tank. Additionally, there is the weight of my Curt 25K 5th wheel hitch, Curt 14K equalizer hitch and bars, and approximately 300 pounds in tools.

I don't have to worry about airbags not inflating. The suspension settles about an inch before making contact with the Timberns. Squat while loaded is negligible. The ride empty is the same as it was before installation. The ride loaded is smooth and controlled even when hitting large bumps at highway speeds.

Installation was simple and straightforward. It took me about a half hour.

2018 Ram 3500

Received my Timbrens very quickly, very well packaged. Installed them is less than 30 minutes. Have yet to hook my rv to the truck, but can see these are going to be really helpful. About 1" to my axle where my OEM bump stops were a good 7" As always etrailer rocks!! Look forward to dealing with these folks when the need arises again.

2016 Ram 3500

I am writing this shortly after completing the install so I am trying to tone it down a bit. Reviews of this product install suggested 20-30 minutes to complete. It took me about 90 minutes. My biggest initial concern was removing the factory bump stops. I soaked the bolts with liquid penetrant a few days before the install. The bolts came out easily. The bolts which attach the rubber spring to the bracket would not tighten completely. The nut is tack welded to the underside of the mounting plate. On both brackets, the nut was not centered on the hole and the tack weld deformed the nut. I had to chase the threads first to be able to install the bolt and complete tighten the rubber spring. One of the brackets was labeled left with an arrow pointing to the front. The left side terminology in the instructions could be more clear with driver side notation. Overall, this should have been an easy install. Product quality could be better. I am a bit concerned with proximity of the brake lines. I will have to seen what it looks like when loaded. Performance when loaded still to be evaluated.

I took a look at your photo and I can not tell if the spring is directly above the axle but if it is, the spring will hit the axle before it hits the brake line. There are elongated holes in the brackets that allow for some adjustment. The best thing you can do is move the spring as center over the axle as possible.

2018 Dodge Ram Pickup

Installed on my 2007 Ram 3500 because I wanted basic leveling & stability under the load of my 5th wheel. I didn't want a complicated air bag system.

Summer trips in the mountains of MT & the Pacific NW. 3 months of snowbirding throughout southern AZ this winter. Very satisfied, so I just swapped them onto my new 2018 Ram 3500. I didn't let them go with my trade-in.

Just what I need, no effect when empty - engaged when I need them.

by:
2013 Dodge Ram Pickup

Timbren is expensive but have proven their worth so far. I have added another one of their products to my rig more improving its handling. I have run air bags in the past and these cushions far outperform that I will never go back. No maintenance and no hassle since I installed them. The were a slight challenge installing due to close tolerances and needed a medium well socket. My great friends at E-Trailer have also proven to be EXCELLENT, USA representatives that I continue to deal with and send many more customers their way.

by:

I am pulling a 17k pound 5th wheel with my 1 ton dual. There was more squat than I wanted so I researched and determined the Timbren would accomplished what I was looking for. The ride is a little rougher at times, but overall I am pleased with the results.

by:
2005 Dodge Ram Pickup

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 dually pulling a 42 1/2ft fifth wheel and my truck would squat quite a bit. I installed these and wow my truck only squared about 4". I would recommend.

by:

I have been extremely happy with my purchase of this product. Hauling trailers, which is basically what that vehicle does mainly, has been a much smoother experience. My pickup no longer bounces around like it did prior. The only complaint if you will, that I have about it is that my heavy Hydrabed that I have on the back sit on the Timbren constantly when I am driving around without anything attached to it. This does make driving with no trailer a slightly rougher ride. Overall though, hauling is a much more pleasant experience.

Dodge Ram Pickup

5 Stars. Great product. Gives a very comfortable and confident ride towing my 5th wheel toy hauler with a 3000# tongue weight. My Ram 3500 barely squats. Seems to give a better ride even when I’m not towing.

2010 Dodge Ram Pickup

Just installed these timbrens on my 2010 ram 3500 dually. Took about 30 minutes, really simple. Im hauling a lance 1172 and tow a bass boat occasionally. I decided to give these a try to help with rear sag and ride. I gained 1.5" after install. I will update after my next trip and i see how they perform.

As always the service and products from etrailer exceeds expectations. Thank you for your consistency in all you do for your customers.

the timbren tdr3500ca were a very easy install on my 2018 ram drw 4x4. The included spacers were needed and left about 1/2 inch clearance.
empty ride is same. Will load arctic fox 990 soon and expect great results. I elected not to reinstall my air bags, when trading trucks. I also have upper stable loads and will not miss the air bags.
ordering was easy and free shipping was fast.

Ordered these from Etrailer.com and got them in three days. Super easy to install on Ram 3500. Didn't have to jack up truck. Assembled is 6.5" on Ram 3500, I had 7" to play with so plenty of room. Haven't added a load yet as 5th wheel is on order. Looking forward to it.

  • Recommended Timbren Suspension Enhancement for 2019 Ram 3500 Dually
For your 2019 Ram 3500 Dually Diesel I recommend the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR3500CA. This jounce spring system is rated for up to 8,600 lbs and will progressively support your load by getting more rigid as more weight is added. It will act as a shock absorber and then as a stabilizer as weight increases to reduce body roll and sag. It won't increase your Ram's weight capacities but it will provide better support.
