Hello everybody, this is Jeff with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this OptiMate 6 Ampmatic 9-step AC to DC 12 volt Smart Battery Charger and Maintainer. Now, this is a nice compact smart charger, which will draw power from an AC wall outlet to automatically charge, test, and maintain batteries on your cars, trucks, RVs, motorcycles, and even boats. This is designed to work with 12 volts standard AGM and gel led-acid batteries, and it uses multiple battery profiles that'll let you charge a variety of lead-acid battery types at different voltages. It does use a 9-step charging algorithm, which automatically charges and maintains without overcharging. It will analyze your battery condition to provide a nice customized charge, has a built-in battery desulfator, which will restore loss battery capacity, it will save sulfated batteries as low as 0.5 volts.

This will also test automatically, and indicate if there's battery problem, and it uses a pulsing absorption mode, which will bring all the battery cells to equal strength to optimize performance. The Ampmatic charge will determine your battery size, and adjust the charging current to suit your battery. Now, to connect to your battery, it gives you two options here that are included. The first ones are the battery clamps. These are nice quick easy way to connect to your battery, just connect your clamps to the battery post, and then plug this SAE connector into the charger.

Length on this cord is about 20 inches. The other way is a little more permanent connection, it uses the eyelets right there. These eyelets will let you make a nice secure connection to your battery terminals. Does have an included 15 amp fuse inline, which will protect any electronics from potential short circuits, and it also has the SAE connector that'll attach to the charger. But because this one's a more permanent connection, it has a nice weatherproof seal on this SAE connector, and even a dust cap to keep out dirt and water when you're not using it.

The same way, it's about 20 inch length on this one. Now, this is a simple operation, uses LED lights that'll indicate the charging status. You can see the case that's it's in is a nice durable weatherproof case, and includes wall mounts on the bottom and on the top. Has a six foot long AC supply lead and a six foot long charge lead that has the SAE connector on it. Does come with a nice set of instructions that'll describe how this operates.

Again, the application, this is for 12 volt batteries, from 3 to 240 amp hours. The battery types again are standard AGM and gel, and the maximum charging amperage is five amps.
