In operation:
Just pop the tailgate handle & let-go
the tailgate opens nicely w/o your
assistance.
(note: light weight Ram gate)
On Installation:
the nut assembly, for the tailgate empty
hole insertion, may need just a tap w/a
hammer to enter the hole; I know I had
to tap it.
Finally, I hope the spring clips in the ball
joint of the pump hold up under regular
use... time will tell.
Also, the clear protective mylar?
If, it's the 3x5 piece of paper I found in
item box; I couldn't peel it.

Easy to install. Works great
Works great. No more falling tailgate. This is the 3rd truck I've installed this on. Very satisfied.
I love how easy the installation went ! The easy down feature is something I wish the manufacturer would have had as a feature but thankfully this product is out and works absolutely perfect. I also bought the tailgate lock and that was super easy to install as well and provides peace of mind . Even though the tailgate locks when truck is locked up it is nice to know that if I forget to lock the truck up my gate is still safe from thieves . Great products all the way around ! Thanks !
Fast shipping . Works great . The only trouble I had was getting the nutsert to not spin . Used the hints from the instructions and use masking tape to stop the spinning and that didn't work so I used duct tape and thread locker and that stopped the spinning and install worked out . I had my wife try the gate and it was a hit even though it will be the only time she will use it probably . Thanks E-trailer I have purchased plenty of things from you and will again .
One of the best purchases I ever made to enhance my Ram 2500.

Still working as good as the day I installed it. Very satisfied with the product.
Everything was easy from finding the product to putting it on. Etrailer let me know when they shipped and when it was delivered. Great service
First, the product works great. So much easier to lift and lower the tailgate on my RAM 1500. Second, the instructions should emphasize that increased pressure is required pushing on the nutsert so the nutsert doesn't turn while tightening the 10mm nut. I initially tightened the nut 9 turns as instructed but the insert came out. By applying increased pressure on the allen screw the insert stopped rotating and started compressing as designed. Third, the T45 Torx wrench didn't fit the torx screws on my truck. I used my own T45 torx wrench to remove the screws. Fourth, thread lock should be applied to the cable mount screw on the tailgate prior to reinstalling. Lastly, wrap tape (electrical) around the jaws of your pliers prior to installing the cable clip to prevent scarring on cable rubber sheath.

Great product. Im so glad I purchased it.
Great product and great service. I had trouble figuring out which item number I needed for my 2012 dodge ram 2500 so I emailed etrailer and sent me an email back showing the correct part and a short video of an employee talking to me about his research on the product. The part works good. Wish it had a slower drop but I'm sure it doesn't help that I have a little extra weight with spray in bed liner and a tailgate mat on top of it. The only issue I had was with the nutsert. That part is a little tricky for sure. Just remember to start counting 9 turns once u feel the nutsert itself tightening in the whole on ur tailgate. At least that's wat helped me figure it out.

Still installed and still working great. Fantastic product! Wife loves it!
Received the unit and did not believe this little tiny shock would aid in the up and down motion of the very heavy tailgate. Well, guess what, it works like a champ. My wife can now open and close the gate w/o any problem. I can now open and close with one hand. I am in a wheelchair, so things can get a little difficult at times. this tailgate assist is a god sent for me. It is small, out of the way, and extremely easy to install. The installation was easy and quick-fifteen minutes. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone with a heavy tailgate.

works great-I am a resent amputee and it takes a lot of the strain off of my leg. my wife loves it as she can now open and close the tailgate without any problem.
Not the first time to buy from etrailer,. Always professional and helpful with answers. I would buy from them again. DeeZee Tailgate assist is an amazing product that was easy to install and a very nice add on to truck.

Perfectly, you cannot go wrong with DeeZee products.
This kit was super easy to install and work perfectly. One of the best accessories someone can install on a tailgate.
This tailgate assist was supposed to have fit my 2020 Ram 1500 Bighorn, but incorrect hardware came with the package. As a result, I haven't been able to fully install yet because the correct parts were not included. To start with, there was no Locktite as pictured. Secondly the lower plate with the lower ball stud that mounts to the actual tailgate won't work because there are two factory bolts in the way. The Nutsert did work, but there was no ball stud to install so that I could connect the lower end of the shock. I have ordered a 10mm and a 13mm ball stud, and hopefully one of the two of them will work. Once they arrive I will be able to fully install this tailgate assist. I might update this review once the correct hardware arrives that I had to pay for... or I might not. We'll see.

This product is a very good product. It assists in dropping the tailgate on my Ram 1500. As my wife and younger children love it because even they can put the gate down with one hand without fear of it dropping or hitting them. It was very easy to install using the instructions included.

Works in the heat and extreme cold even a year later
I installed the Dee Zee tailgate assist on my 2015
Ram 1500 EcoDiesel and it made opening and closing of the tailgate soooo much easier. I wanted to do this mod for a long time...wish I hadn’t waited so long to do it. The whole installation was fast and easy. Thanks Dee Zee for a great product !

After one year of service it still works good. I have noticed that the colder the weather the slower the tailgate drops but that is not objectionable. I love the convenience and it's great when my hands are full.

The tailgate unit works as good after a year as it did right after installation. Im so used to it now I just take it for granted.
It works OK and was pretty easy to install. However, I guess I didn't understand what it actually does. It slows down the lowering of the tailgate but does nothing when raising it. I was expecting that it would make the tailgate easier to lift as well. I would not buy it again.

The DeeZee Tailgate Assist is designed to help slow the lowering of the tailgate to make it easier and safer to put the tailgate down. This product is not designed to support any weight of the tailgate when lifting it to close.
Product works as described and keeps my tailgate from slamming down when I open it. Only negative I can think of is the clanking noise it makes when you close the tailgate. I’m wondering if, over time, it will damage my truck. No damage so far.

Great news. My tailgate assist has worked exceptionally well over the last year. Still my only negative I could say is the clanking noise when I close the tailgate. I have been watching for friction damage and have seen no inkling of damage at all. The design and quality materials have made the difference. Great product. It was easy to install and I recommend it.
product works well, would only recommend one change to the instruction . I could not get the bottom ball mount connected with the top one already on. removed the top mount, bottom mount went on easily, then put top back on with the same ease.

OUTSTANDING ! MAKES OPENING THAT HEAVY TAILGATE MUCH SAFER
On my second one now for the same truck. Followed the installation instructions exactly both times however for whatever reason the first struts arm was bent making it inoperable. Since installing the second one, that I repurchased, this strut seems to be holding up ok so far. I do like the fact the tailgate doesn't just drop since I am in a wheelchair and holding onto the tailgate can pose a problem at times. So for me this is a safety issue. Wish there was a way to purchase just the strut without the whole kit but then again probably would not have cost any less.
This kit did exactly what I hoped it would do! I had a mini heart-attack every time my 10 year old would grab the handle of the tailgate on my 3/4 ton Ram, fearing a concussion or worse. The installation of this was easy enough for a novice like myself to pull off, and was actually kind of fun. I would now feel comfortable just opening the latch and walking away from the tailgate as it softly lowers and comes to a stop (although I still try to keep the kids from doing it out of an abundance of caution).

I enjoy it every time I open my tailgate. And, when Im with someone I make a point of demonstrating it to them because most of my friends have pick-up trucks but dont have the DeeZee installed.Also, worth mentioning, the DeeZee was an easy installation and you dont need to be a mechanic.Thanks again
