Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

2015 Ford Edge

I am now on my 3rd light module. The first two shorted out internally without blowing the fuse at the battery, now my trunk area perminately smells of electrical fire.
Each time I replaced 100% of the wiring to rule out a short somewhere else, which at least it is an easy install on a 2015+ Ford Edge. The module I have now however has outlived the other two by far. Bad batch maybe.

Typically, a taillight converter shorting out is caused by a short circuit somewhere in the trailer wiring. Id recommend very carefully examining the wiring on the trailer. Begin at the trailer connector, look for corrosion or for damaged pins. Check the point where the wiring meets the 4-pole plug, its a common failure point. Trace each circuit rearward until it connects at its fixture. Look for loose connections or for bent or pinched wires. Make sure theres no cracks or worn spots in the trailer wiring that would allow the copper wire to short out to the trailer frame. Make sure the connection at each lamp is secure. If the short isnt located and repaired, each subsequent taillight converter thats installed will continue to short out. Ive linked to help articles that explain various troubleshooting strategies.

2017 Ford Edge

I installed the Curt Trailer Wiring Harness C56292 on my 2017 Ford Edge. The instructions were good, but watched the video for another brand etrailer sells (begins with a "T"), which was the best help. I decided to run the battery wire inside the car, which was really easy. Found out from a blog for people who install subs in Ford Edges, that there is a rubber grummet access thru the fire wall, located on the driver side under the carpet about 4 inches left of the steering column. Ford even has a cutout thru the insulation under the carpet. I pulled the grummet, shined a light thru the hole and it comes out behind the battery. I ran a pull wire from inside the car towards the battery, and pulled the new battery wire back thru. I purchased auto trim removal tools for $9, and this made the job easy! The other variation I did is I decided to run the trailer hookup wires outside thru the rear grummet, and mounted a CURT 58300 Connector Socket Mounting Bracket (cost about $5) thru a hole under the bumper which was already there. Now the plug is always ready! Lights work perfectly. I tested the lights using a Trailer 4-Way Circuit Tester (about 5$). Yes I could have used a volt meter, but I don't know how many times in the past I was renting a trailer and the lights didn't work. They always blame my vehicle, and now I can prove the trailer is the issue, since I can carry the small plug in my glove box.

THIS IS EASY TO INSTALL AS ITS BASICLY PLUG AND PLAY. THE DIRECTIONS ARE EASY TO FOLLOW - TAKES ABOUT 20 TO 30 MINUTES. HAVE DONE THIS TO MY OTHER FORD EDGE.

Easy to install. Mostly plug and play. Hardest part was running the power wire up to the battery. I watched a YouTube video as I installed the wire harness. Made installation a lot easier!

  • Does Power Wire have to be Run to Battery to Install Trailer Wiring Harness on 2015 Ford Edge Sport
Powered trailer wiring harnesses like # C56292 have a direct connection to the battery for 2 reasons. First, it powers the trailer lights instead of drawing the power and the signals all through the vehicle tail light wiring. This helps protect the vehicle wiring. And second it offers additional circuit protection beyond what a non-powered converter can. If wired into a rear power port that port could be overdrawn or a short on the trailer side could cause that power port and anything...

  • Passenger Turn Signal Not Working After Curt C56292 Taillight Wiring Harness Install on Ford Edge
I would revisit the installation, and make sure the connection where the harness plugs into the rear of the passenger side taillight housing has been plugged in all the way. Unplug the connection, then re connect it. The plug should fit into place with an audible click when fully seated in its connector. I've linked to the installation instructions, in case you need to look them over again. The connector is a fit for a 2015-2018 Ford Edge.

  • Vehicle Blinkers Not Working Correctly After Installing Trailer Wiring Harness on 2017 Ford Edge
It sounds like your 2017 Ford Edge thinks that a bulb or bulbs are out which would explain why the one side blinks quickly and the other side does nothing. Trailer wiring harness # C56292 is designed for the Sport and Titanium models of the Edge so if you have an SE or SEL I recommend # 118669. If you do have a Sport or Titanium then check to make sure the white ground wire is attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface. There can't be any kind of coating on the ground surface...

  • Why Does My Handsfree Liftgate No Longer Work After Installing Receiver And 4-Way on 2015 Ford Edge?
The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56292 may be blocking the sensor for the handsfree liftgate on your 2015 Ford Edge or the wiring is causing interference. We have installed the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13234 on a similar 2015 Ford Edge and tested the handsfree liftgate to still function properly. I have linked our installation video below that shows this. I recommend dropping the rear fascia and temporarily moving the wiring away from the handsfree sensor. Be sure...

  • Troubleshooting A Turn Signal That Stays On Once The Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness Is Installed
To start, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56292 is for a 2017 Ford Edge with the Sport and Titanium package so If you have an SE or SEL model this could be causing the issue. If you have an SE or SEL model 2017 Ford Edge then you will want to use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56272 instead of the # C56292. The next step is check the ground wire and ensure it is making full contact with bare metal and double check that all your connections are tight....

  • Activating Reverse Light Circuit of 7-Way Trailer Connector on 2017 Ford Edge SEL
Not every vehicle will have the reverse light circuit available for the 7-way. Especially a smaller vehicle like your 2017 Ford Edge. Best option would be to run a wire from the reverse light pin of the 7-way (center pin) to the wire that powers the reverse lights of the vehicle. You'd want to use a quick splice connector like the part # SWC501746-1.

I recommend using the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13234 as this hitch will not require near as much effort to install in comparison to the similar Draw-Tite hitch receiver. It is a Class III hitch receiver with a 2" opening. This fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your Ford Edge's frame with no welding required. Depending on...
