Volvo Cross Country

Lot's heavier than the OEM hitch it replaced. The original started cracking on a cross country trip which caused me to leave my utility trailer in western Oklahoma for a month while I continued my trip. etrailer shipped the new hitch to a friend's house in North Carolina where we installed it in a very short time. The old one was scary close to leaving the trailer on the freeway. I've put a lot of miles on the new hitch without any signs of it breaking.

by:

The application for this hitch is not a normal one, and I am sure there are others out there who are wanting to do the same. Vehicle is a 2002 Sierra 2500HD crew cab long bed. The rear bumper is off a 2014 Silverado 1500, mounted 2 inches higher than the factory holes (only applies to 3/4 and 1 ton trucks). This hitch fits perfectly, using the OE mounting holes, and tucks nicely under the bumper notch. The OE hitch that mounts to the factory bumper hangs slightly lower than this does.
You will lose the 7 pin plug mount when replacing the factory hitch. Since I have the NNBS bumper, it is integrated into the bumper with a 7 pin and 4 pin plug. There are vidoes showing the bumper upgrade install, but nobody has verified an aftermarket hitch that works with the newer body style bumper.

I ordered a new trailer hitch because the original one on my truck had rusted through at the welds. I was afraid to pull my 22 foot 14000 pound trailer down the road with my 40 hp tractor loaded onto it. Not any more. My new class 5 hitch exceeded all my expectations from ease of installation and its heavy duty frame and its beefy stout appearance. I’m sure it will last the life of my truck and then some. Thanks etrailer. You promised me a great product and you really delivered one!

Great!

I have owned and used this hitch on my Chevrolet 3500 for a little over two years. I have never exceeded any weight limits for the hitch or the truck. Despite staying within rated limits, this hitch has developed a small bend on the left side between the two mounting bolts. I would advise against using this hitch if you tend to haul heavier loads on a regular basis. There are also several areas where the paint is chipping and surface rust has formed. I have pictures of this but they will not upload successfully.

I will have our customer service team reach out to you. Most hitches over time will develop rust due to road debris. We do recommend touching up the hitch with a rust resistant paint from time to time for hitch maintenance.

by:

One of the 4 bolts from the package was already stripped. There is also nowhere to mount the electrical cable for the trailer lights.

I am so sorry to hear that! I have sent your information over to our customer service team and they will be getting in tough with you about this. As far as mounting trailer wiring goes, part # C42CR connected to part # 18140 would be an easy fix.

2002 Chevrolet Silverado

I ordered the wrong hitch, ordered for a longbed instead of a shortbed, they wanted restock and reship fee. So notched it and made it fit, still works fine, website is kinda hard to read. Other than that good hitch.

by:

This is so much heavier than my factory installed hitch, like twice as heavy. Very thick square tube construction. If the maker (Curt) wants a little tip they should punch 2 holes for the trailer plug mount. I couldn't drill through that 1/4' steel to bolt it together and I had to weld the mount! I'm lucky I had a welder, someone laying on the ground with hand tools might never get that done!

by:
2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic

I am very happy with the hitch, great product, fits well and very heavy duty, good communication and speedy shipping. I will definitely be buying more products from this company.

by:
2001 GMC Sierra

Very well made. Excellent welds and fit was nice. No need to remove or even loosen the spare tire, there was plenty of room to operate. Receiver does sit approx. 2" higher than the factory hitch that I was replacing, but that was not an issue for me. Very happy with the hitch and peace of mind that Trailer will be secure as we travel down the highway. This hitch will carry ANYTHING I will ever hook to it.

Very satisfied. Good strong hitch. Peace of mind if worth every penny spent. This thing is plenty strong to do the job.

by:

I love the new hitch from Curt, a real improvement over the original factory receiver. It is much stronger, and even though it uses four of the same factory bolt attachment points, it also extends further up the frame where two more bolts attach through existing holes spreading the load over more of the truck frame.

It arrived in perfect condition just a couple days after I ordered it and only took ten minutes to install. I would recommend this hitch to any one who is looking to upgrade or install one on a truck that didn't have a factory hitch receiver.

Hello, Im thinking about ordering this hitch for my 05 Silverado 3500 dually. Is your truck a 2500 or 3500 and do you have any additiona pics showing how you modified the trailer plug recepticle? Do you have any pics of it from straight behind the truck at knee level. How much lower does it hang then the factory tube hitch? Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you. Dan

Hans G.

2/2/2014

Dan G, my truck is a 2500HD, but as you probably know, the frames are the same on 2500 and 3500 model GM trucks. Just the springs and sway bars are bigger on yours. You can email me directly at hans@gyswyt.com and Ill send you more pictures. I also ordered a new trailer plug from E trailers. I bought my truck at auction and sadly it had been in an accident where it was rear ended, so I got it without a hitch or trailer plug receptacle, they had been damaged and removed by the body shop when the new bumper was installed. I really dont like the factory hitch because it relies on the bumper for additional strength, and because its bolted to the bumper the torque tube doesnt get to act like a spring. I ask a lot from my hitches, frequently towing in excess of 10,000lbs so I feel very confident with the high hitch rating of the curt. Hans

2003 Chevrolet Silverado

Awesome trailer hitch, heavy duty, much better quality then the factory, fit perfectly, added piece of mind.

by:
2004 Chevrolet Silverado

We have a truck with virtually no rust one it. We were shocked when the factory hitch started to fail from corrosion where it attaches to the bumper. We were one bad bump away from catastrophe with the horse and trailer. The failure was such that we would have lost the safety chain connections also.

Putting on the new hitch was very easy. We balanced the hitch on a floor jack and raised it in place. It bolted right in with almost no effort. Nothing to modify and no need to remove the spare tire or exhaust. Total installation time was about 20 minutes (taking the old hitch off took about 30 minutes and with the use of penetrating oil).

This hitch design is exceptionally heavy and avoids attaching to the bumper where the rust formed on the factory hitch.

We also added a new plug connector as the old one is part of the old hitch. With everything now being new, life is easier and less stressful.

by:
2004 Chevrolet Silverado

The first thing you notice when compared to the stock hitch is just how much beefier and better quality it is. It weighs a lot more and is made of a lot thicker steel. This thing is made to last! Installation was a breeze, had the old one off and the new Curt on in about a half HR (with air tools) no drilling uses all factory frame holes. I also purchased the 7way plug bracket which screws into the bumper with the provided self tapping screws. The stock hitch was rotted at the most vulnerable points I can't believe I towed a 10,000lb trailer last month with it, just thankful nothing catastrophic happened. Thank you etrailer for the great product, accurate description and fast shipping! I definitely recommend this hitch over the stock hitch on any 2500hd any day! Buy it, put it on, drink a beer to celebrate! Cheers

Folks if you have a 99-07 Silverado or Sierra replace you factory hitch ASAP! I highly recommend this hitch. Installation could not be easier. Finish on curt hitch is very nice hopefully it will hold up well. One thing that could make it better would be an integrated trailer plug bracket. I had concerns of it hanging down lower than factory but it looks great

by:
2006 Chevrolet Silverado

High quality hitch. Bolted right up with no issues. I cut the trailer connector mount off the old hitch and welded it to flat bar and bolted it to the old hitch holes in the bumper. Definitely would recommend this hitch.

by:

Hitch arrived very quickly. Box was beat to hell and the hitch was scuffed up pretty good but it will work fine. Will not be installed for a few weeks since I am reconditioning the frame on my truck.

by:

This is a great heavy duty hitch. It bolts on easy in existing holes. It did move my receiver height up from the factory hitch about 2”. I also had slight interference with my after market 5” exhaust but not a big deal. I would definitely recommend this hitch.

by:

better built than the original factory installed hitch...highly recommend this hitch if you are up grading or just need one

by:
2006 Chevrolet Silverado

bought this for a 2006 chevy 2500HD that has a lift gate. we went with this one because it did not require using the stock bolt holes in the middle of the factory bumper like others did(only mounting bolts were on the frame rails). quality and finish were great and was an easy install

by:

All hardware and instructions were clear and it fits perfect. etrailer.com was also easy to deal with and ensured vehicle fit when ordering.

by:
2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic

Hitch fit perfect and is plenty heavy duty enough for the the trailers I pull up to 14k. Instructions were easy to understand and the hardware kit has some nifty installation tools to get into the frame.

by:

Excellent fit for my 2007 chevy 2500hd (classic body style). Provides much better strength and durability over the stock hitch. I was towing 10k on a hitch that was only rated for 7k. If I had known that the stock hitch was that weak I would have done this a year ago. As far as intstall went it couldn't have been easier. Took myself 20 minutes to remove the old one and install this one. One tip if you are by yourself use a board and a floor jack to hold the new hitch up while you start the bolts.

by:

I appreciate the fast service competitive prices and easy to use website at etrailer. The hitch came fast and was very easy to install with no need to remove or even lower the spare and clears my aftermarket 4” exhaust. It fits up tight, has a better capacity and most of all it gives me peace of mind from worrying about the rusted oem.
