The correct trailer hitch for your 2006 GMC Sierra 3500 SLT Crew Cab is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15312. This American made extra heavy duty class V receiver is compatible with your factory step bumper shown in the photo you provided. It has a towing capacity of 16,000 lbd and a max tongue weight limit of 2,400 lbs, perfectly equipped to tow your 14,000 trailer. I have attached a photo of the # C15312 installed on a similar year Silverado with the same style bumper to give you an idea of how it will look.
The Curt # C15313 will not work since it's designed for vehicles with an aftermarket 10 inch deep drop bumper. The FAQ at the bottom of the page explains (with pictures) the difference between different styles of bumpers.
If you also need to replace your wiring, I recommend the 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket # HM40975.
