Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind either the driver's-side or passenger's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed within the spare tire compartment of your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

2013 Acura RDX

Great, robust system that installs easily and effectively on my RDX. The only issue was not realizing that the RDX trailer fuse in the main fuse box needed to be added! I routed it into the spare tire well as actual trailer towing will be quite infrequent for me. Combined with the exceptional trailer towing hitch, I'm ready to haul my dirt bike anywhere.

2016 Acura RDX

Very easy install after watching the instructional video. Tested the wiring and everything was working as it should.

2013 Acura RDX

The product is excellent but the instructions are confusing and not accurate for a 2013 Acura RDX. Do not follow the written instructions in the package. It is much easier than that. Just remove the small panel on the driver side in the rear compartment. Next thread the trailer end of the wire from the inside of the compartment out under the finished floor ( only about 8" or so) this will bring the trailer plug out into the spare tire area. A little tough to wiggle it through but nothing needs to be taken apart. Then plug the blue end of the harness into the blue vehicle plug located inside the panel opening more towards the front and sort of higher up (hard to see). Be sure to plug it in correctly, difficult to undo if plugged in wrong. Then with the supplied double stick attach the harness box to the body inside the panel area. The best spot is just to the rear when looking into the panel opening. The instructions also don't tell you to put the supplied fuse into the "trailer" fuse slot, which should be empty, in the fuse box area under the hood in the Acura 2013. The supplied fuse is a 10 A and the Acura fuse block indicates a 20 A.

Hitch was excellent. Perfect fit. Some difficulty with the weldnuts, as warned in the instructions. Instructions were very good; well prepared and accurate

Delivery was not as good as I was used to with etrailer. Shipment arrived two days after promised date. Probably due to virus problems(?)

2013 Acura RDX

Installation of Class III hitch on my 2013 Acura RDX was straightforward (able to do it by myself), instructions were clear, workmanship of hitch and parts top notch. Wiring harness plugged into factory wiring; just needed to route wires and install a fuse. Price was very reasonable. BRAVO.

by:

Installed hitch receiver yesterday and wiring harness today. To fit in existing grommet at SUV body I cut 4wire next to unit and fed it back through grommet. I then crimp connected 4 wire back to unit. Worked well. I will test with trailer tomorrow. Your site is very helpful with instructional videos etc. Only improvement would be to have plug in connector on 4 wire side of unit.

2013 Honda Accord

I have only had the product a few days. but the install instructions are poor. They list the RDX and Accord Crosstour side by side and it is confusing.
They also completely leave out the need to add a fuse for the RDX. Though they include it for the Crosstour. Other instructions linked in these reviews do suggest the fuse.

A picture of the location of the connector for the 2013 RDX are included.

The wiring is also a bit to short to go through the most logical grommet, under the car, and to the hitch. Though the instructions do say to leave it in the spare tire bay. But I don't want to have it hanging out of the hatch when I am hooked up.

Don't get me wrong. The product seems to work great, and once I got the instructions right everything is good.

by:
2014 Acura RDX

Like everyone else said the instructions are poor. Don't bother reading them. I included some pictures that I hope others can use. Simply open the access panel in the trunk on the driver’s side. If you stick your head in and look right you will see a blue connector. Plug the wire harness into that. In the bag you get two fuses. The big one goes with the red rubber container that you will see on the connector harness. The small fuse goes in the fuse box. So far everything is working great.

2006 Toyota Sienna

This Curt wiring harness is very easy to connect. Hardest part was figuring out how to remove side tray on my 2011 Honda Accord Crosstour. One plug to connect, an in-line 15 amp fuse to install (furnished in wiring kit) and a tiny 10 amp fuse to install in the under hood fuse box, clearly marked for trailer use. Done. Tucked converter between rear carry tray loose so I could easily replace the 15 amp in-line fuse.

by:

Easy to install. Works just as expected.

by:

Works like a charm, fits like a glove

2012 Acura RDX

Wiring harness is great but agree with other reviews - instructions are poor, generally too generic. I have 2012 Acura RDX. Instructions say to open driver side access panel, however I didn't need to because the connector is near spare tire on passenger side under the foam insert. Once I located the light blue connector - easy. Look at the prongs for connector, line up and snap together. Insert red fuse in red box and close cover. I also disconnected negative connection to battery before install. Slip protector cover for hitch connection over plug; use to tie up spare wire and cover plug when not in use.

2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I installed the Curt trailer hitch P/N C13130 to my new 2015 Acura RDX AWD. It took about 20 - 30 minutes, I took my time. It looks good. It fits flush with the underneath of the rear bumper of the vehicle (although, I don't know if you can really call it a bumper in this new vehicles) or the frame of the vehicle. Just follow the instructions of the movie clip provided by Etrailer. The wiring connection is no problem either. I used P/N 56008. The trailer connector in the vehicle is located (when looking from the rear) opened tail gate, there is a panel on the left side mid-way of the tail gate. Pop the panel out. There is a blue connector tucked inside approximately 10" from the edge of the opening going forward. (NOTE: Acura recommends that you remove the negative connector end from the battery before doing this, which will reset your navigation system, but you can reset it again after connecting the negative cable back to the battery). Plug the trailer wiring into the blue connector inside the opening . Plug the large fuse (10 Amp) into the red fuse holder in the supplied wiring, make sure it sits all the way in. The black box that came with the wiring harness is the light converter. I placed mine by attaching it to the inside frame with the double adhesive tape that came with it, just make sure you clean the frame of the vehicle with alcohol before applying it. You can feel the frame by sticking your hand inside the opening, towards the back, and as a precaution I tied it with a nylon strap. Route the rest of the wire with the connector at the end for the trailer hook up through the lower, rear foam located in the tire compartment and tuck the pig tail into the tire area. When towing a trailer just open the tail gate, bring the connector outside and close the tail gate. The rubber seal around the tail gate is very flexible and will not pinch the wires.
Lastly, inside the engine compartment there is a fuse box with all the fuses. Inside the plastic lid there are additional fuses. I used a 20 Amp fuse and inserted in the 4th slot, then reconnected the battery, and I am done. Please note: I have not towed as yet and can't assert any thing I have done will work. I am only planning to tow 1500 lbs max. My writing herein is for information only of my own installation. I DO NOT RECOMMEND OR IMPLY ANY USE OF TRAILER PARTS, ELECTRICAL MATERIALS IN ANY VEHICLE.

These were better instructions than in the piece of paper that came with the harness. The instructions coming with the harness say to look in the right side... do NOT do that. the instructions are wrong and will cause you a lot of headache taking the car panels off... only to read the instructions above and realize you could have been done in 5 minutes.

by:
2014 Acura RDX

I bought Curt Receiver and wiring harness for my 2014 Acura RDX and can say installing the hitch was just as expected. about an hour doing it myself. the included instructions were pretty much right on. the wiring harness was a different story. it was the correct harness, but the instructions need updated. the instructions were for a previous year. if anyone reads this and has a 2014 Acura RDX and is trying to install a trailer wiring harness listen to these simple instructions. pull the star shaped panel off the DRIVER'S side of the cargo area. what you see isn't where the connection is. the correct connection is about 6" up toward the front of the SUV in the same area. if you put the included fuse in the 'red in-line connection', you still need one in your fuse box (located under the hood) if you want this to work when your done. you can fish the other end toward the spare tire area or simply let it lay in the cargo area. DON'T bust out the leveling styrofoam either way. it can be fished through with a little playing around.

I ordered the trailer wiring harness for my 2015 Acura and it couldn't have been easier to install. It took me less than 30 minutes to get it installed and tested. Great product! Would recommend to anyone looking to do it. When I first ordered it, I thought I may have to get an additional part, but it came with everything needed to make it work.

Thanks for the great product and making it so easy to install!

2014 Acura RDX

Works fine in 2014 Acura RDX, just watch the video before you install it. You don’t have to remove the styrofoam for the tire thing though, just slip the wire through between the foam and the rear metal of the car. I stored the wire in the left hand styrofoam thing beside the spare tire. 4 stars instead of 5 because it includes a 10A fuse for the car fuse block even though the car specifies 20A.

2015 Acura RDX

My new trailer hitch and trailer wiring kit arrived quickly and was complete as show. The installation instructions were clear and easy to follow and the hitch mounting was straight forward. No problems. The trailer lights wiring harness installation for my 2015 RDX went just fine as well. The interface plug was easily found, and the adapter stowed away as needed, exactly as per instructions. I simply stow the trailer lights cable away under the spare tire cover when not needed. And I especially liked the reminder to insert the proper fuse for the trailer lights in my vehicle fuse panel. I have been towing my 1T capacity utility trailer on many occasions, with no issues. I saved over 100 dollars by not ordering the dealer installed hitch. Not bad for a little DIY. I highly recommend this product and eTrailer.

by:

Plug and play! I didn't even have to remove anything to install the plug which is contrary to the directions. I was able to reach my hand under the blocking in the trunk and expose the plug. The car doesn't have a built in fuse which is also contrary to the directions. One fuse needs to be installed in the new harness and the. You're good to go. Other than the directions being wrong, the product (so far) is great.

I could not find the mating connector on 2013 RDX. Did you install this on 2013? I removed the floor spacer on the passenger side and the connector was not there. I called Curt and they said its moved to the driver side. I remove the floor spacer on the driver side. Still no connector to be found. Curt said they just found this out from an owners manual. The owners manual has no reference to this. Ended up taking apart for nothing and ended up with broken trim fasteners which I had to pay money to replace.

Patrick B.

6/13/2013

Dan actually installed his on a 2007. The connector should be behind that appearance panel, on the driver side wall, in the cargo area. I have added a link to the instructions for a similar kit that has better photos than the Curt instructions that may be helpful. Of course, feel free to call us if you still cannot find it. http://www.etrailer.com/instructions.aspx?pn=118569

Installed on 2008 Acura RDX. Easy install and works great. Used twice.

by:
2013 Acura RDX

I installed the Curt trailer hitch on my 2013 Acura RDX. Installation was simple. After sliding the hitch into position, I set a bucket under the center of the hitch and that held it up while installing the bolts. Since my car is not new, I cleaned the threads with a nylon brush and penetrating oil. After inserting the bolts and nuts, I torqued each type to the specified ft-lbs with my torque wrench. No problems; the installation was done in less than an hour.

I also installed the Curt wiring harness. The connector is on the left side of my 2013 RDX under the removable panel and forward of it. I did not take out any additional panels but fed the wiring under the panel and along into the spare tire compartment. To protect that wiring from chafe, I put in in a plastic wiring split tube purchased elsewhere. I disconnected that battery as suggested which meant that I had to restart my navigation system when the job was done (easy to do); this did not lose any of the items in memory. There was no fuse in the slot for the trailer in the fuse box under the hood so I used a spare 20A in that slot. Total time less than an hour.

by:
2007 Acura RDX

Everything arrived on-time and in great condition. The hitch, harness, and anti-rattle device all fit and worked like OEM for my 2007 Acura RDX. The installation video made the job easy. Will be a repeat customer.

by:

As usual on every Curt Hitch I have purchased they always are well made and fit exact. The hardest part was trying to find the factory plug on my 2015 RDX for the trailer wiring harness. Its buried behind the interior service door shown in the directions, behind the left rear quarter panel. Its further back then what it appears, you can only feel for it and it does not pull out. Make sure you go to the fuse box under the hood and put the fuse in or your lights will not work.

I used a 2" drop down receiver and flipped it over and that still seems slightly low for my trailer with 15" wheels so depending on your trailer you might need a 3" drop reversed.
