Package was damaged, and paint was chipped. Quality of the shipping and packaging department needs to be improved. Hitches have weight to them and need to be more protected and boxes need to be better quality for strength.

Thank you for letting us know! I recommend touching up the hitch with a rust resistant paint like Rustoleum prior to installation. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.

The hitch is well built, and exactly what I was looking for: a beefier option than the factory that sits up close to the bumper. The factory receiver would bend down with less than the rated tongue weight.

Since my truck came with the factory towing package, I had two options cut the receiver portion off of the bumper brace, or remove the bumper brace. I didn't like the idea of removing the bumper brace, so I opted to cut off the factory receiver. This can be done with a combination of cut-off discs and a long metal cutting blade on a powered hack saw.

The specifications for this product state that this is only for the 8'bed. I was told that there would be some slight interference with an exhaust hanger, that could be modified. I didn't encounter any issues with the exhaust, and the only modification needed was to drill 1/2" holes for the forward mounting bolts.

Since the bolts need to be dropped in through the frame rails, it is fantastic that Curt includes a special tool to guide the bolts into position. They would have been a real bear to install without them.

There could be potential to reinforce it further by connecting the receiver to the bumper support. I debated this, but decided to wait to see if it needs any with the loads I will be hauling.

The packaging it was shipped in was simply a cardboard box, so of course there wasn't much left of the box by the time it arrived. Fortunately the Curt's powder coating was substantial, and not much scratching occurred, but I wouldn't recommend for a show truck.

I had a difficult time finding & choosing a receiver hitch for my older Dodge until I checked etrailer.com. The amount & quality of the information available made it much easier to find an applicable hitch. I was pleasantly surprised with their best price guarantee & at how quick it arrived. There was a little bit of a learning curve with the install kit, but again, the quality information & tip videos on the etrailer site made the job very easy...& as advertised for my hitch...NO DRILLING REQUIRED! I would recommend etrailer.com to anyone needing towing equipment & will use them again myself in the future.

Hitch arrived earlier than expected. Box was beat up and hitch paint marked up. One nut somehow came out of the bag but thankfully did not fall out of the box. Hitch could have been wrapped so shippers couldn’t take away from the factory finish. Beyond that, hitch was easy to install. The wire to fish through to pull the bolts into place was brilliant once I realized you push it through then attach the bolt into it.

No issues with the hitch after 6000 miles towing wit it. Still looks as new, minus the original shipping chips.

Solid hitch and easy install. Aftermarket exhaust was in the way so it took a little longer than normal due to having to move hanger mounts.

2003 Dodge Ram Pickup

This is a great receiver hitch - well made, is a true no drill installation and fits the ball mount perfectly on my 2003 Dodge Ram 2500.

However, the directions need a bit of clarification/re-writing since on a Ram 2500 (and possibly other Ram trucks) the fasteners need installed in a particular order due to space restrictions. I'd recommend the following procedure. Install the square and rectangular washers used in the frame tubes. You'll need a 3 foot piece of #12 copper wire and some tape to get the rectangular washer into position. It looks like it'd go through the frame hole but mine was just a bit too big so I attached the wire to it and fished it into position like you'll do with the screws later.

Next, attach one of the screws to the fish-wire. Have a buddy help hoist the hitch into place and then use the fish wire to get a bolt into the rearmost vertical hole near the end of the tube. Screw on the nut - repeat on the other side. Align the hitch, then tighten down and torque to 110 lb-ft. This needs done since there is almost no way to properly torque it with the flange bolt installed...just not enough room. See photo.

Install the other fasteners and torque down...done!

Look forward to towing a travel trailer with this hitch!

Thank you---for your incredible service and help. I really appreciate communicating with your service people. UPS lost my first ordered hitch but e-trailer made everything right. The second hitch didn't arrived on Monday but did arrived on Wednesday evening.
I'm thankful for the great service of e-trailer and those who still care about customers.

  • Correct Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Made After and Before Nov. 2002
If the white sticker inside the driver door jamb on your 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 reads 07/2002 as the date of manufacture, the correct Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver for you will be part # C14020, not part # 14361 which is for trucks made after 11/2002. This trailer hitch has the same class IV rating, 2" receiver tube opening, and plenty of capacity for your 6,500 lb camper just like the one you were looking at. It also offers a completely drill free installation and is made right here in the USA.

  • Class 3 or Class 4 Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Without Factory Hitch
Putting a Class III or Class IV trailer hitch on your 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 really depends on how you are going to use it. The Class III etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98852 or Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13333 is the best option for light towing. They are very simple to put on with zero drilling required and have a 6,000 lb towing and 600 lb tongue weight capacity, which is more than enough for most Ram 1500 models (please refer to your owner's manual for your specific capacity as...

The HEMI Sport is an add-on factory package that features, among other things, different trim at the rear that prevents fitment with this hitch. As long as you don't have this particular package the hitch will work great. The Class III hitch features a 10,000 pound towing weight capacity...

The Curt Hitch part # 14361 that you referenced would be a great hitch for your 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. I checked with Curt and this hitch will fit your truck as long as it is not a 6 foot bed. If you do have a 6 foot bed you could get the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75420 as this is a similar hitch that would work with a 6 foot bed. Both hitches have enough capacity for your trailer.

  • Recommended Trailer Receiver Hitch for 2004 Dodge Ram 1500
The correct hitch for your truck will depend on what capacity you were needing. For instance, if you'll be towing trailers weighing less than 6000 lbs, a Class III hitch like the # 75662 would be ideal. The hitch would bolt to the existing crossmember and the rear bumper. For a heaver trailer (assuming your truck has the necessary capacity), a Class IV hitch like # 14361 would work well. The Curt # C15409 you referenced is only a fit for trucks already equipped with the factory hitch. You...
