Best Trailer Hitch for a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 to Tow a 4,500 Pound Trailer

Question:

I am looking to tow a trailer with an approx weight of 4500lbs. Is this the correct hitch for me. I currently do not have a trailer hitch on my truck. There is a 4 pin connector though.

Curt trailer hitch # 14361 would certainly do the trick and it does fit your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4x4. But this hitch might be a bit of an overkill since its capacity is 10,000 pound gross trailer weight. It is a great option if you will be towing a heavier trailer in the future.

But if you do not anticipate towing any more than the 4,500 pound trailer then I recommend hitch # 13333 which is rated for 6,000 pound gross trailer weight and 600 pounds tongue weight. When used with weight distribution it is rated for 10,000 pounds gross trailer weight, 1,000 pounds tongue weight.

No need to pay for more hitch than you need and you will still get plenty of capacity (if using weight distribution) with the smaller Class III hitch should you have the need to tow a heavier trailer in the future.

I have included a link to a video showing installation of hitch # 13333 to the right for you. Since you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK4. It comes with a ball mount with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop, interchangeable ball set, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included to the right that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

If your truck does not already have a trailer wiring connector you can add a 4-Way using # 119178KIT.
