Class IV Hitch Recommendation for 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 to Replace Class III Curt Hitch
Question:
Looking for a class 4 hitch for a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 sxt with A 6 foot bed. In the hitch descriptions they ask if it has a factory hitch. My question is how do you tell if it’s a factory hitch or a aftermarket hitch that is installed. The one on my truck is manufactured by curt class 3 . It is the one that bolts into the bumper and the frame tub under the truck . It does not bolt to the frame rails. Thanks for the help so I can purchase the correct one

Sounds like you have the Curt Class III hitch part # 13333 installed on your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 based on what you described and the fact Curt did not make the OEM hitches for your truck. So for a higher rated hitch that fits your truck we have the Curt Class IV hitch part # 14361 which is a fit and has a much higher towing capacity at 10,000 lbs trailer weight.
