You are correct, the only difference between a 7-way trailer connector and 6-way trailer connector is that the 7-way trailer connector will have a circuit for the reverse lights whereas the 6-way trailer connector will not. Therefore, yes the trailer brakes will still work along with all of the other lighting functions except for the reverse lights.

The Tekonsha Prodigy RF # TK94FR can be used on your second trailer to power its brakes. The main requirements for the Prodigy are that it have a 12V power feed at a 7-way on the rear of the first trailer and that the control box be mounted on the second trailer in one of the locations shown in the linked diagram. Neither of those Harbor Freight trailers has brake mounting flanges on the spindles. To add electric brakes you would have to have brake mounting flanges welded on. This is a precision job that requires a special jig and someone with experience in welding on flanges. I have included a link to the flanges we carry to the right.
