How to Tow a Trailer with 7-Way Connector on a Vehicle with 6-Way Trailer Connector

Question:

I have a six pin plug-in on my 2002 Toyota Tundra that I pull a 16foot trailer with trailer brakes. The trailer brakes are working fine. I am renting a travel trailer to go camping for a few days and bought a 7-Pin RV to 6-pin AG Adapter to connect to the travel trailer. It looks like the only difference is the seventh pin for back up lights. Will the trailer brakes work correctly with this adapter?

You are correct, the only difference between a 7-way trailer connector and 6-way trailer connector is that the 7-way trailer connector will have a circuit for the reverse lights whereas the 6-way trailer connector will not. Therefore, yes the trailer brakes will still work along with all of the other lighting functions except for the reverse lights.

If the 6-way is on the vehicle and the 7-way is on the trailer then the adapter you have should look something like part # 47435.
