A trailer drum brake actuator cannot be used as a replacement for a disc brake actuator on a trailer with disc brakes. Reason being the master cylinder on a drum brake actuator does not send as much pressure through the brake lines as a disc brake actuator, so you won't get the correct stopping power for the disc brake's piston.

If you're not wanting to switch from a 4-pole to a 7-way then you'll have to use a surge brake actuator in order to activate the brakes. Hydraulic drum brakes operate at 1,000psi and hydraulic disc brakes operate at 1,600psi so it's important that you pick the correct actuator otherwise your brakes will not work. You could potentially swap out the master cylinder to be compatible with disc brakes but you'll need to ensure it's compatible with your specific actuator. The manual... view full answer...
Hey Susan, to swap your surge brakes to electric over hydraulic, you're going to need to change out your actuator and add a proper brake controller.
For an actuator I'd recommend going with the Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Drum Brakes # HBA-10 if you have drums, or # HBA16 for discs.

The Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator # 099-175-00 is a great option for a replacement actuator because it's a direct replacement for the common Model 60 actuators that were popular in the '90s.
I'm not exactly sure what model actuator your trailer came with but This one has the bolt holes measuring 3" apart on center and it fits a 3" wide channel tongue so if those specs match what you have then this will fit like a glove! view full answer...

I do have an option for you but there is not a version of the Titan Zinc-Plated A-Frame Brake Actuator for trailers with disc brakes. The only a-frame trailer coupler we do offer for use with disc brakes is the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Lockout part # DM8105422 so this is what I recommend. In order to use this coupler with a 2-5/16" hitch ball you will also need the Demco Trailer Coupler part # DM15791-97.

Thank you for the pictures of your coupler. You are going to need to replace your entire surge actuator coupler as the A-50 is obsolete and we do not have any parts to repair it. We have the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX73FR which you can have welded in place of your current actuator. Or we do have the Dexter DX7.5L A-60XL Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX43FR which would be a better option since it will prevent the brakes from being activated when you drive in reverse. I do not see anywhere that you would be able to use a screw driver on the Atwood 84132 to activate the actuator. Instead you could simply use a 2"x4" as in the image below with the safety chains. Then when you push the top of the board in it would activate the actuator. view full answer...

It sounds like you're looking for a brake actuator that fits a 2" ball for your 2017 Trailstar. The dimensions don't have to match up, although it is nice if they do. The important thing is to know the capacity you need and whether this is for disc or drum brakes. You also have the option of an electric lockout, manual lockout, or no lockout. If the tongue really is C-Channel and not a box the you'd likely need to first weld a piece of metal to fill in the gap on the open end for the new actuator to weld onto. You could go with an actuator like the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX63FR. You'd weld this to the top of the channel, but there aren't welding instructions included.

Hey Ryan, yeah you're right TDE is no longer a thing and unfortunately we don't carry a replacement reverse solenoid for that actuator so at this moment your best bet would be to replace the entire thing with the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX56FR.

As long as the steel lines are in good condition, then yes you will be able to reuse that portion of the brake lines on your trailer. You will want to look at a kit like the Hydrastar # HS381-9067 as it will come with the actuator, a 7-way connection and junction box to terminate the wiring and a breakaway kit since you will have electric actuated brakes.
