Expert Answers about Mercedes-Benz Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

  • Determining The Correct Ball Mount For A 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 Towing A Boat Trailer
  • Hi Russ, There's a few things that you'll need to check in order to get the right ball mount for your setup. First you'll want to check the coupler size of the trailer. With the boat/trailer weighing in round 5,000lbs you likely have a 2" ball coupler. From there you'll want to level the trailer and measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. Next you'll measure from the top of the trailer hitch receiver tube opening on your GLS to the ground. When you compare these two measurements...

  • Recommended Extended Ball Mount for a 2 Inch Hitch
  • That is something I have never heard of. I recommend looking around for a part number or sticker on that hitch before you tow with it to verify what it's capacity is. If someone made that for a bike rack or other application it may not be rated for towing or even safe to use. Feel free to email me directly any pics if you'd like. 9" is pretty far back for a hitch pin hole but we do have extended ball mounts that will close that distance and give you some space from your bumper to attach...

  • Recommended Extended Ball Mount for a Boat Trailer
  • Sounds like you need an extended ball mount. The Hidden Hitch Ball Mount item # 80232 you were looking at would definitely give you plenty of turning clearance. It measures 15-3/4" from center of hitch pin hole to center of ball hole and has a 6,000 lbs capacity. Depending on your coupler size you will either need a 2" Hitch Ball item # 63845 or a 2-5/16" hitch ball item # 63847.

  • Ball Mount Needed For A 2024 Ram 2500 Towing A Trailer With A 12" Coupler Height
  • Hi Jackson, In order to find the correct rise/drop ball mount for your setup you'll also want to measure from the ground to the top of the Ram's trailer hitch receiver tube opening. The difference between this measurement and the 12" trailer coupler height will be your needed rise/drop. Do you tow multiple trailers with different ball sizes or coupler heights? Are there any other features you'd like to have with your ball mount?

  • Ball Mount for 2016 Ford Fusion
  • Assuming you are in that 9-10" range you can use the Draw-Tite Ball Mount # 80248. This has a 9-3/4" rise and a gross towing weight of 3,500 lbs which would be perfect for your trailer. You will also need # C40002 for a 1-7/8" ball or # 63845 for a 2" ball. Just to be sure, I'm going to run through the process to measure for rise/drop. The first thing you need to measure is the hitch height. With the tow vehicle parked on level ground, measure from the ground to the top of your hitch...

  • What Hitch Extension Is Needed On GMC Sierra To Carry Slide In Camper With Tailgate & Tow a Trailer
  • Without knowing the exact weights for your trailer and assuming you have a 2" receiver we do have the Gen-Y Hitch Extender # GY89SR. The extender is going to add 14" of length to your ball mount and with the 13" you have for clearance on the trailer this should allow you to clear your tailgate. This is capable of being used with a ball mount to tow a trailer up to 10,000lbs with up to 500lbs of tongue weight. Do note it does reduce your receivers towing capacity by 50% of its rating. If...

  • Will A 7" Drop Ball Mount Be Enough For A 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 AT4X?
  • Hey Jonathan, congrats on the new truck. The 7" drop should be enough, but it is hard to say for sure without knowing what trailer you will be pulling. The 7" drop will get your ball height at 17" or 18" (we measure from the upper inside edge of the receiver which is more like 25"). Most trailers will have a coupler height of around 17" or 18", so the # BWTS20066BMP ball mount should get you to where you are definitely close enough to level. We consider anything within 3" of level to be...

  • What Info is Needed to Pick Out Correct Rise/Drop Ball Mount to Tow Trailer
  • Hey Jerry that's kind of hard to say without some dimensions but I can still help. Basically you need to measure from the top of your hitch opening down to the ground and then get from the bottom of the coupler lip on your trailer down to the ground. The difference between the two dimensions is the rise/drop you'd need. If you check out the attached help article you'll see more info on this.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2002 Dodge 2500 Roadtrek 170
  • Robert, we don't have tow bumpers for your 2002 Dodge 2500 Roadtrek 170, unfortunately. What you could do instead is install a hitch like the Multi-Fit Motor Home Trailer Hitch # 82201 and slap a ball mount in there # DT49MR and you'd be all set. This is a multi-fit hitch that has a 3.5K capacity and can adjust anywhere from 47" to 72" wide, so you'd just need to measure your frame width to verify.

  • Length From Back of Bulldog Cast Head Coupler # BD4420000317 to Center Of Ball Mount
  • Sorry it took me so long to get you the measurement Shawn, as I had to wait to get the measurement for the Bulldog Cast Head Coupler # BD4420000317 from Bulldog. We did not have any in my local warehouse to measure but according to Bulldog it is 7-5/8" from the back of the coupler to the center of the hitch ball.

  • Is It Okay to Have Ball Mount 1" Off of Towing Trailer Level
  • Thanks for reaching out, Michael! As long as you're within 1" of being level you'll be just fine. I will say that in your case I'd recommend picking up a 0 drop ball mount like the Flint Hill Goods Tri-Ball Mount # FHG62VR so you're 1" above what you need rather than 1" below. Reason being that when you couple up to the trailer your vehicle ball mount will naturally squat just a little so if you're 1" above what you need, it will help level things out a little once everything is hooked up.

  • How to Determine Trailer Size for Hauling 2 Adult Pedal Tricycles
  • Thanks for reaching out, Roxanne! The biggest factor in choosing the correct trailer for hauling your adult tricycles is figuring out how much width you need for your trailer floor. For example, the Detail K2 Mighty Multi A-Frame Utility Trailer # K2MMT5X7 bed measures 88" long x 52" wide so if that will fit both the bikes side-by-side (one facing forwards and one facing backwards) then this trailer will work for you! If you let me know what year your Nissan Rogue is I can make trailer...

  • Will The Reese Goose Box Clear The Tonneau Cover Rails On a 2022 Ram 3500?
  • I have included a dimensional drawing for the Reese Goose Box # RP85FR which will help you determine both the height and length from the ball mount center to where your tonneau cover rails are clamped. I do know these are used in several trucks which have tonneau covers as well with no issues. We do also offer raised hitch balls that can help with clearance if necessary.

  • Tips For Eliminating Suspension Sag On 2013 Kia Sorento Towing Boat Trailer
  • I checked your towing capacity in the owner's manual of your 2013 Kia Sorento and you have a 350lb towing capacity. There is no option to increase that capacity, so you need to make sure your boat trailer is not exceeding 350lbs of tongue weight, if it is, you'll need to use a different tow vehicle with a higher towing capacity. You'll also want to see what the tongue weight rating of your hitch is, and go with the lowest rating between the hitch, ball mount, and vehicle. Now if you're...

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement for a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek
  • I wouldn't worry about adding anything to the front. The only reason you would want to add the Coil SumoSprings item # CSS-1125 to the front of your 2018 Crosstrek is if you had a front hitch or weight pushing down directly on your front axle. Since you're close to the towing capacity on your Subaru, I recommend using a weight distribution system to address the sagging in you're experiencing. The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control item # FA92-00-0450 works with trailer's...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For A Jayco Jay Flight SLX 174BHW
  • Hi Bill, The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0450 has a tongue weight range of 200lbs - 450lbs so you'd be right around the middle of the capacity when loaded, making this a great choice. This doesn't come with a hitch ball so you'll need either a 2" ball # 40038 or 2-5/16" hitch ball # C40005 depending on your coupler size. I've attached a short video below where we'll show you how this system works.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 7,500 lbs Trailer
  • I would be happy to! For your 7,518 lbs trailer you will want to confirm your total tongue weight before purchasing a hitch. Total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to tow trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. The easiest way to get an accurate tongue weight measurement is with a tongue weight scale like item # e99044 but there are other methods outlined in the included help article I linked below. Tongue weight...
