What Hitch Extension Is Needed On GMC Sierra To Carry Slide In Camper With Tailgate & Tow a Trailer

Question:

I have a GMC sierra with overhead camper. It extends out my tailgate with 3 inches of tailgate left. I have a horse trailer which is 13inch from Jack to ball. I need to know how long of extension I need so I dont hit my truck and camper. Thank you for your time. Shelley H

Without knowing the exact weights for your trailer and assuming you have a 2" receiver we do have the Gen-Y Hitch Extender # GY89SR. The extender is going to add 14" of length to your ball mount and with the 13" you have for clearance on the trailer this should allow you to clear your tailgate. This is capable of being used with a ball mount to tow a trailer up to 10,000lbs with up to 500lbs of tongue weight. Do note it does reduce your receivers towing capacity by 50% of its rating. If this is not going to be enough for your horse trailer please let me know the weights of our horse trailer loaded and which model GMC Sierra you have so I can see if we have another option for you.
