The reason we do not recommend that you use this product on a 2011 Honda Pilot is that factory cut-out in the rear fascia causes fit issues with the included mount. I checked the owners manual for a 2012 Jeep Liberty (starting on page 424) and it does seem to indicate that you would remove the key. I advise taking a look at the manual because only specific models can be flat towed and there is a specific procedure involved in doing so.
