When using an electric brake controller on a vehicle that vehicle needs to have the appropriate 7-Way trailer connector. Semi-trucks have a different type of 7-Way than recreational 7-Ways. If the trailer plugs into a regular 7-Way blade style trailer connector then the truck will have to have one.
If both the truck and trailer have matching 7-Ways then you would not need to change either connector. You will have to hardwire in a brake controller either way.

For a 1998 Newmar Kountry Star, you options are going to be limited. If the leaf springs are stock, replacing them with a new, slightly heavier duty spring may help to lift the rear slightly. I do not have literature that will tell me leaf spring specs for your motorhome. We would need you to inspect one of the springs and take some measurements of the overall length and width and such. There isn't a specific wiring diagram to install the P3 brake controller # 90195 on your 1991 Freightliner but I can tell you the functions of the wires. The white brake controller wire is ground and needs to go to the negative battery terminal. The black wire is for 12 volt power and goes to the positive battery terminal via a circuit breaker. I do have an option for you but there aren't any custom fit trailer hitch options for a 2006 Thomas School Bus. That said, we do still have universal options which can be installed either via welding or cutting/drilling. For this, I recommend the Curt Class 5 Universal Weld-on Hitch part # C87CR which uses very large side plates so you have a lot of room for error when modifying them to make fit. The first thing I would do is check the 7-way connection on your truck. Make sure there is no debris or corrosion present and clean as necessary. It wouldn't hurt to go ahead and check out the connector on the trailer as well. Once this is done, go ahead and test the functions using a circuit tester like the # PTW2993. If you aren't getting power with the running lights on then you know it is on the vehicle side. If everything checks out it is a problem with the trailer wiring.

It sounds like you have a short on the circuit for the right turn signal on your 5th wheel trailer.
If the 7-Way on your tow vehicle and your 5th wheel look good then you will want to start off by using a Circuit Tester # PTW2992 to test the pin in the 3 o'clock position on your tow vehicle side 7-Way (see attached picture). If you are getting a signal when you use your right turn signal then the problem is on your trailer.
