That's a really good question but it sounds like you have it partially figured out already. The Roadmaster part # RM-523182-4 does not have a crossbar between the mounts and that is because the tow bars by Roadmaster have a crossbar in the mounts, whereas the Blue Ox has a cross beam that would basically perform the same task. The trailer brake output wire is not run from the front of the vehicle to the rear, you will need to do this yourself. I do have a great option for you, however you won't be able to add a factory brake control switch assembly to the dash of your 2016 GMC Canyon for use with an aftermarket brake controller like the Prodigy P3 # 90195 that you were looking at. As you kind of alluded to in your question, the switch would require OEM/factory wiring that isn't present on your Canyon for installation and it also would not be compatible with the P3 (or any other aftermarket controller).
