Recommended Tow Bar Wiring and Safety Cables To Flat Tow 2017 GMC Canyon

Question:

I have a blue ox tow bar Bx335. I also have a Blue ox baseplate installed on my 2017 GMC Canyon. I will be using the Roadmaster #9400 protable braking system. I will be using a 2013 Newmar Ventana 3436 LE to tow the Canyon. I have a few questions. I need the two safety cables and a wiring connection from he Newmar to the canyon. I have no idea what else I might need. Can you help? Thank you

Since you already have a tow bar, base plates, and a supplemental braking system for your 2017 GMC Canyon you are most of the way to a complete flat tow setup.

Since you mentioned that you are using the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Supplemental Braking System # RM-9400 you will also need the 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332, and Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751472 for your Canyon.

The last components you will need are the wiring, and safety cables you mentioned, and likely a high-low adapter to level your tow bar to your 2013 Newmar Ventana.

For wiring I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 which will add a 6-way connector to the front of your Canyon, and the included cord will plug into the new 6-way connector and into the 7-way connector of your Newmar to power your lights when flat towing.

For safety cables I recommend the Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables # BX88196 which have a 7500lb weight rating which will be plenty for your vehicle.

Lastly I have included a helpful article that goes over how to measure for the correct high-low adapter, and a link to all of our high-low adapters for you to take a look at.

It is always a good idea to check the recreational towing section in your vehicles owner's manual for special steps to make your vehicle ready to flat tow, and to see if there are any restrictions.

I included videos for all of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
