The same applies to the Hidden Hitch and Curt hitches made for the X5. Usually the reason for these fit exclusions has to do with trim components like the fascia or with a specialized exhaust that blocks the frame's hitch installation access points.

When installing a trailer wiring harness you really want to run the wire up the vehicle battery. Doing this allows the trailer wiring to be totally isolated from the vehicle's wiring. In the event of a short this prevents any damage on the vehicle's wiring. On a new BMW you really do want to have the circuit protection. Also, if you don't run the wire to the battery the warranty of the ZCI Harness part # 119250KIT would be voided.
