Availability of a Taillight Converter With a 5-Pole Flat Trailer Connector for 2008 BMW X3
Question:
I have a 2008 BMW X3 I need to wire it for a flat 5 plug for a boat trailer w/ surge brakes. What converter kit do I need to use ?

Tow Ready offers a Modulite taillight converter with a 5 pole, part # 119177KIT. The converter is compatible with your X3, and provides the circuit tied in with the vehicle taillight to activate the lock-out on your surge coupler. I've linked you to an install video showing a different wiring harness being installed on an older X3. The procedure might be a bit different on your vehicle, but the video should give you a pretty good idea of what the installation involves. The blue wire from the convterter would tap into the reverse light circuit.
