Rear Suspension Support

Towing or hauling a heavy load can cause rear sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the weight of your vehicle. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

Installed spring when it is not compressed

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The closed-cell urethane material allows for smooth contact between the springs and your vehicle. And the springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

Installed spring when it is compressed

The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

The helper springs are custom designed to fit your vehicle, and they install easily - no drilling required.

2014 Toyota Tacoma

I installed these, this month, on 2 pickups. A 2005 Toyota Tacoma witha 6' bed so it properly supports a slide in bed camper built by Scout. The other pick up is a 2014 Ford F150 Super crew w/6' bed. These Sumo springs corrected the trailering issues I had with my rear end dipping or drooping evertime I hitched a large boat, my 18' utility trailer or even my 16' sled trailer. I installed these along with new rear shocks and now the truck rides level when loaded. Very very happy with the ride, yes it does bounce a tad more but I am fine with that part. The Tacoma bounces a bit more unloaded too but when the camper is in, ride is perfect and level. I would buy these again and are very easy to install.

I installed these myself on a 2020 F150 XLT 4x4 in half an hour. There was no need for a jack or jack stands because the ride height of the stock suspension allowed just enough room. As you can see in the photos, the assembly is about 9” tall, the same distance between the frame and the axle. The ride height remained the same as before using the 1” spacer! The instructions did fail to mention that a 15mm socket is needed to tighten the new hardware.

I do have a concern about the shape of the spring at the axle being unlike the oem bump stop. Why couldn’t the spring have the same contour so that deflection would be minimized? I say this because of the very close proximity of the brake lines and wiring harness to the helper spring, especially on the driver’s side. It would be interesting to film the movement of the helper spring as this vehicle is driven over rough roads to see just how close it comes to the brake lines. I’m not completely satisfied in the design, so we’ll see how this goes.

2019 Ford F-150

Very easy to install. I had zero issues and it took me about 20 minutes. Pictures shown are a 2019 F-150 with max trailer package and zero weight in the bed. Test drive with no weight in the bed made the ride feel smoother and the back end was noticeably more muted when going over bumpy roads. Typical behavior without the sumo springs would have been a much bouncier ride.

Had these on for a year. They are an excellent addition when towing our camper. 5 stars

2019 Ford F-150

Easy install. 0 maintenance. Keeps my 19 f150 crew from sagging badly when I have a atv in the bed and a trailer on the hitch. Helps give a more controlled towing experience. Would purchase again.
The 1000lb were perfect for me. Ride quality unloaded or loaded is still great.

On my previous truck I had airbags, which I replaced 1x due to leaking. In addition to extra effort when pulling my travel trailer I was looking for something more maintenance-free and found these SumoSprings. It only took a few minutes to install and I've used these SumoSprings throughout the summer and find them to be just what I was looking for, they're perfect for use with my trailer or when I have a heavier load in my truck - I highly recommend these.

by:
Ford F-150

My F150 seemed to have super soft rear springs. After adding a topper, any payload made it squat. The Sumo Springs have really helped stop that from happening. I'd recommend them to anybody that ever plans on putting anything in/on the bed of their truck or towing a trailer. You get the performance of airbag overloads without having install an air compressor or plumbing.

by:

Easy to install and makes a big difference in how the truck rides when pulling our 5th wheel trailer.

by:

Put these to the test shortly after install with 1in. Spacer on my 2-1/2in. Leveled 2020 F150 FX4. 20ft heavy duty dual axle trailer - on it,a Bobcat 4wd tractor, bucket, and leveling blade attached. Plus tools, sacks of topsoil and rock in bed of the truck and on trailer. Truck sagged a little off of level but handled it beautifully... Even on rough Louisiana roads! Definitely recommend these springs!

by:
Ford Flex

Better than I thought. Ride just fine, I'm over an inch off the leaf springs. I run a load dis hitch and the sumo springs are for back up. It's the leaf spring flex and body roll in cournering I wanted to minimize. Works as I wanted and saves my springs and shocks.

by:

I have had sumo springs on my last truck and love them. You get the performance of air lifts without the air compressor and plumbing. Very easy to install and maintenance free. eTrailer delivered exactly what I ordered in 2 days. Excellent service!

by:
2018 Ford F-150

I installed these on my 2018 F150 4x4. I did not use the 1" spacer, unloaded I have 1.25" gap between the axle and the Sumo spring. Unloaded I can notice the firmer rear suspension when hitting large bumps, but I can't tell a difference on small bumps. When towing a trailer this helped a lot to reduce the bouncing up and down in the rear that I used to get. I feel more in control when towing with these and I'm happy with them.

by:
Ford F-150

I used the 1000lb Sumo spring in a 2020 f150. They work great for hauling a camper. They don't destroy the ride quality like a Timbren (I previously had these in the same truck)

by:
2019 Ford F-150

I have just installed the springs on my 2019 Ford F150 FX4 & immediately noticed a difference in ride quality. I haven't pulled my trailer yet but expect less rear sag & improved handling. Excellent product for price, ease of installation & improved handling.

Seems to be made well, final fit is good, took a minute to figure out mounting due to this item must fit a wide range of application.

  • Best SumoSprings for 2018 Ford F-150 With Light Load
The SumoSprings I recommend for a light load on your 2018 Ford F-150 are the SumoSprings # SSR-117-40 because they work progressively to keep your vehicle level and give you a smoother ride . The SumoSprings are made of a microcellular urethane which compresses independently and has a 1,000 lb capacity which allows them to reduce body roll and sway as well as keep your truck level whether you are carrying a load of 1,000 lbs or 250 lbs. These springs are very easy to install, as you...

The 1,000 pound capacity SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-117-40 for 4 Wheel Drive and # SSR-116-40 for 2 Wheel Drive referenced in your question will offer a smoother empty ride in your 2016 Ford F-150 than a higher rated alternative spring. It is important though to keep in mind that any weight coming from behind the rear axle of your F-150 and from the trailer hitch itself should also be considered when choosing a suspension enhancement system, as this will be included to...

  • Recommended SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs for a 2020 Ford F-150
The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs I recommend for a 2020 Ford F-150 is part # SSR-117-47 which have a 1,500 lb weight capacity. The reason I recommend going with this spring is because it has the perfect combo of support/comfort therefore will help with reducing sag while loaded or towing while also not decreasing ride quality. The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-117-40 which have a 1,000 lb weight capacity I recommend using for very light duty, occasional...

  • Comparing Blue Vs. Black SumoSprings for a 2017 Ford F-150
The loaded tongue weight of the trailer will likely be over the 1,000 capacity of the blue SumpSprings part # SSR-117-40 so I recommend the black SumoSprings part # SSR-117-47 for a 2017 Ford F-150. The tongue weight capacity of the trailer (loaded) is the best way to choose between the two.

If you have a 2WD, I recommend using the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SSR-116-47. If you have the 4WD then instead you would need the # SSR-117-47. These progressive load control springs adjust as weight is added for shock absorption and stabilization. These springs require no maintenance so they are great to give you support when needed and simply allow your factory suspension to work as designed when they aren't needed. They are great for reducing sag as you...

For your 2013 Ford F-150, the SumoSprings that are the best option for you while you are towing are the 1,000 lb capacity springs: - SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-117-40 These are the blue springs (I verified with SumoSprings there aren't any yellow springs for your truck), and their 1,000 lb compression rating is going to be perfect for your needs. For your 2013 Ford F-150 4x4 with the 3.5L EcoBoost engine, I recommend using the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-117-47 which are rated for 1,500 lbs. The reason I recommend going with the 1,500 lb system over the 1,000 lb system (part # SSR-117-40) is because it's better to have too much capacity than not enough. The SumoSprings are also made of a much softer material than their counterpart, the Timbrens so they won't have that jolting feeling while you are unloaded...

  • Will Adding SumoSpring Rear Helper Springs Create a Bouncier Ride on Unloaded 2014 Ford F-150
If you take a look at the instructions I have linked for SumoSprings # SSR-117-40 you will see that, when unloaded, the springs make little to no contact with the rear axle on a 2014 Ford F-150. If may seem a little more stiff when going over bumps. So it will have a small effect on the unloaded ride quality.
