Firestone Coil-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Coil-Rite springs fit inside your existing rear coil springs to maximize the effectiveness of your suspension system. The added cushion provided by the air springs allows your vehicle to better handle a heavy load or trailer. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your vehicle sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your vehicle for more effective braking and handling under heavy loading or when you encounter adverse road conditions. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Firestone Coil-Rite airline installation

Adjustable Air Pressure

The air pressure in your Coil-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your vehicle by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your vehicle's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Firestone Coil-Rite air spring components

Air Spring Construction

Coil-Rite springs are constructed of durable, elastic polyurethane to ensure years of service. Single replacement springs (sold separately) are available for maintenance to an existing Coil-Rite kit.

Air Spring Installation

The Coil-Rite springs install inside your existing coil springs. The custom-fit springs attach to your vehicle's spring seats.

Great product. I must say that they were a little tough to install. A very tight fit. Fortunately for me I had the availability of a vacuum pump. With that I was able to evacuate all the air out of the bags which made them flatter, with that, it made it easier to slide them between the coil springs. I tow a small camper trailer, I usually run around 20 psi in the bags. This keeps my vehicle level and adds for a smooth ride. A great product.

I'll preface with I am an average do it yourselfer. I tried I stalling them on my VW Atlas for almost 3 hours before I just quit. I had to have them professionally installed. The installers said it took two of their people trying to fit the air rites in each spring. After installation they have been fine. My vehicle drops a little when I hook up boat but not a problematic amount. They hold air for quite a while and have not made any noise while traveling. They work as should. Just be prepared to pay for an install in event you cannot get them in.

2020 Ford F-150

They provide support for my Volkswagen Atlas 2022 when towing our travel trailer. Installation wasn't' too challenging other then pushing the bags into the springs. Once I flattened them out and rolled them into a hotdog bun shape with zip ties, went in easy. I also added 90 Degree elbows to avoid kinking the hose if too tight.

by:

These work great for the VW Atlas!! They reduce the rear end sag when pulling a travel trailer or putting the roof tent on and loading all the gear for some overland trail riding and camping!! They are a must for any adventurous Atlas Owner!

Installed on 2020 VW Atlas Cross sport. Jacking up vehicle to let rear wheels hang separates the spring coils. It is not easy to get the bags inside to coils it takes strength. Also make sure the tubing is connected to the bag and threaded thru the hole in the lower control arm before setting the bottom of the bag in place. A little armor all on the spring helps too and also to remove squeak when driving while deflated.

by:
2019 Volkswagen Atlas

Installation was a bit difficult, but fit is good. Squeeze all the air out and then twist the air bag to fold it in order to fit into the coil springs. There is just enough hose included for a VW Atlas installation. The kit is a bit skimpy on the abrasion cover though, so I may go back and install some wire loom cover over some sections, and a couple of stick on zip tie mounts from the local hardware chain provided a couple mounting point inside the bumper on the driver side. On the passenger side of the Atlas, there is a wire harness that you can zip tie the airline to. Some 90degree elbow connectors help with routing the line as well, so that there is not a big loop hanging down out of the lower suspension.

If you have a VW Atlas with factory tow package and hate drilling holes in your vehicles as much as I do, I recommend getting a Pollak 12-711U 7-way connector bracket to modify for mounting the Schrader valves. I assembled the valves from the Firestone kit to the Pollak bracket, and then installed the bracket between the 7-way connector and the factory mount. It provides a tidy solution that looks like a professional installation.

by:

Work exactly as needed!

by:

Easy install in less than 2 hours. I disconnected the shock absorber on one side to get a little more room, but I was still able to slip the bags in on the side I didn't disconnect. On my atlas cross sport, there was a plastic plug at the bottom of the coil in the lower control arm that needed to be removed.

2018 Volkswagen Atlas

I have used this product for the first time two weeks ago.. it is easy to adjust the air pressure and the VW Atlas seems to handle our 20’ trailer well.

by:
2020 Volkswagen Atlas

Instructions were straightforward, install went smooth, and the product works great!

by:

This product works very well! Leveled my SUV just like I was hoping when towing my Travel trailer. Install instructions are pretty simple and it is a challenging task to push the bags inside the coils, one thing I figured out after a few hours struggling is to push all of the air out then twist the bag before trying to push it into the coils.

2013 Volkswagen Beetle

I installed the F4175 kit on my 2013 VW Beetle TDI. Installation was very easy. I usually carry a wheel chair which lowers the rear 1 inch. My base unlaiden measurement was 9 inches. I put in 5 lbs of air and rear end went up 1 inch I then put in my wheel chair and the rear end went back down 1 inch, which put me right back to my base unlaiden measurement, so the vehicle did not sag at all and remained level. I need to do a full ride quality test, but it seems a little firmer in the rear.

by:
2018 Nissan Rogue

Product installed without any issues. Do suggest taking a paper towel or rag and spraying a small amount of WD40 on it and wiping around spring coils only not on air bag. Bags slide in a little easier. Would have been 5 Star except for unacceptable shipping time, 5 days to on instate location 200 miles away.

Good product for little air bags.i like it and easy to install

  • Suspension Enhancement and Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2014 Nissan Rogue
There's nothing that can safely increase the towing capacity of a vehicle unless it comes from the manufacturer. Only they can state what will give you additional capacity if anything. Sometimes a transmission cooler like part # D13503 being installed is all that's needed but often times that's not the case. We do have suspension enhancement for the rear of your 2014 Nissan Rogue in Firestone kit part # F4175 which will help you carry your towing capacity as safely as possible. I attached...

  • Recommendation For Preventing Rear Suspension Sag When Towing With 2020 Volkswagen Atlas W/ Tow PKG
I do have an option to help prevent sag in your rear suspension when towing your trailer that does not include a weight distribution system for your 2021 Volkswagen Atlas. The option I recommend is adding the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs # F4175 which install inside of your rear coil springs and allow you to air them up with up to 35 PSI of air to help support your rear suspension when the weight of your trailer is attached and can be aired down to 5 PSI when not towing to keep...

  • Do Firestone Coil-Rite Springs Need to Fill the Whole Spring
That's a good question, but coil springs like the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs # F4175 do not have to fill up the entire vertical space of the spring during installation. What you are seeing in regards to photos is likely the spring during the installation process with the vehicle up on a lift (like in the accompanying photo). At this time there is no weight on the suspension, the the springs are extended all the way, but when the vehicle's weight, particularly with a load,...

  • Air Helper Spring, Roof Rack, Cargo Box and Trailer Hitch Fit for 2016 Nissan Rogue
According to Firestone, the fit of their Coil-Rite air spring kit, part # F4175 has not yet been determined for the 2016 Rogue. If you could measure the inside diameter and height of your rear coil springs and reply to me with those dimensions, Firestone can determine if the # F4175 will fit. To install a roof mounted cargo box, you'd first need a roof rack. Rhino-Rack offers an aerodynamic yet reasonably priced option that would consist of the following parts: 49 inch Vortex Aero crossbar...

While there isn't a way to completely mimic how a weight distribution hitch works, you can use a friction sway control system for a safer way to tow with your 2022 VW Atlas, and you'll also need a bracket that goes over your ball mount: - Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 - Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 2" Ball Mounts # RP26003 Then to help with any suspension sag, what you can do is add air springs to the coils, the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs # F4175.

When you're installing the air springs, it's very important that the car is up on jack stands being held by the frame, not by the axle or the suspension. • Can I Install Air Helper Springs at Home on My 2018 Volkswagen Atlas
The Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs # F4175 will work great on your 2018 Volkswagen Atlas. This kit can and has been installed by many people at home. It helps if you can get your hands on a set of car ramps to get the rear of the vehicle in the air a bit to give you more room to work but other than that the installation is very straight forward. • Are Replacement Air Bags Available For Firestone F4175 Kit?
I reached out to Firestone and the air bags used in the # F4175 are not available by themselves. To replace them you'll need an entire new kit # F4175. The most common reason your bags would both rip or pop is due to under inflation. They need to have a minimum of 5 PSI air pressure at all times, so it's recommended to double check the air pressure every month. A 10 degree change in weather can change the PSI in the air bags by 1 PSI so if you're really keeping them at 5 PSI I'd be checking...
