2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited - Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class III - Efficient

  • Plate-Fin Cooler
  • Derale
  • With 11/32 Inch Hose Barb Inlets
  • 11W x 7-1/4T x 7/8D Inch
  • Standard Mount

11" Wide x 7-1/4" tall x 7/8" deep, efficient heat exchanger will prolong the life of your transmission and improve its overall performance. Specifically designed for Jeep Wrangler Unlimiteds with late-model, electronic overdrive transmissions.

Features:

  • Prolongs life of transmission
  • Improves overall performance
  • Prevents heat-related failures
  • Has furnace-brazed aluminum construction and 3/4" wide turbulator plates for more efficient cooling
  • Includes complete mounting kit, OEM spec hose with stainless steel clamps and Insta-dapt radiator adapter
  • Recommended for mid-size cars, trucks and SUVs

Specs:

  • Inlets: 11/32" hose barb
  • Overall dimensions: 11" wide x 7-1/4" tall x 7/8" deep
  • Distance between inlets: 10-1/4"
  • Mounting dimensions: 6-1/8" tall by either 5-1/4" or 6-3/4" wide
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: The Derale Insta-dapt radiator adapter fits most vehicles with 5/16" transmission lines, but not all. In some cases, additional fittings or alteration of the OEM lines or hoses may be required for installation.

One of the more popular cooling systems available, the radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger provides increased surface area so that fluids can spread out along the finned chambers to cool faster. In addition to the increased surface area, this cooler also features turbulator technology, whereby fluids are agitated continuously, not only to facilitate heat transfer, but also to prevent any undesirable drop in pressure.

Buy the extension hose Derale 13003, you'll need it on a 2016 Odyssey (Napa can't help you, this is an odd size hose, force 5/16" or 3/8" on at your transmission's peril $$$$! Decent cooler, simple.

where is the cooler on a 1994 eagle vision

Patrick B.

10/3/2014

Most passenger cars do not have factory installed transmission coolers, including the Vision in all likelihood. On that car you will find a radiator for cooling the engine block and an A/C compressor condensor. If the Vision did have one, it would be integrated into the radiator at one of th corners.

2010 Subaru Forester

Cooler came just in time. I installed it in my 2010 Subaru Forester so that I can safely pull my trailer without boiling my transmission. Glad to say I needed no special fittings to get the job done. The cooler looks well made and the size is just right...anything bigger would be a tough fit.

by:
2009 Toyota 4Runner

Great product. Super easy to install on my 2009 V6 4Runner. Keeps my transmission nice and cool. I did buy a little bit of extra hosing to mount it further on the other side of the car. But otherwise a complete kit for mounting it.

by:

The installation was straightforward, and the temperature difference after the cooler was significant. This cooler will place additional years to the life of the transmission with 230,00 miles.

by:

As far as I know, it's working well. I did the install so I could tow with my 2011 Honda Odyssey. I paired it with an etrailer power steering cooler.
Install was fairly smooth. I had more issues with broken fairing fasteners than I did with this cooler.
I used a bluetooth ODB reader to keep tabs on transmission temps while towing a small 4x6 enclosed trailer approx 400mi one-way. Empty weight was around 300lbs, we may have filled it to 1K lbs. Temps were in the mid-upper 80*f range, all highway driving along mostly flat roads.
I did a lot of googling to try and find aceptable temps, good luck.
Later on I used a small utility trailer to move an entire 3K Sq ft home. Distance was approx 1/4 mile (close by). Transmission temps remained good after many round trips. Fluid color remained acceptable.

Since last review I rented a uhaul 4x6 enclosed trailer a few more times to help someone move. Still no tranny or steering issues. Transmission fluid still remains an acceptable level of pinkred. Additional upgrade has been a pair of Timbren rear suspension enhancement in prep for my next trailer adventure. The factory bump stops were damaged. The Timbrens are supposed to handle the constant contact as the rear end sags under load. Ill provide an update on those after the trip.

by:
2006 Toyota Tacoma

Excellent transmission cooler with fairly easy installation. I chose to mount mine to brackets in front of the radiator rather than by pushing mounting rods through the radiator condenser. Plans for my 4-cyl Tacoma were initially for pulling a utility trailer out to my land and back. Wife wanted to get an RV and take trips. All of my purchases and installations from etrailer were based on the expert advice from the sales people. And, I actually purchased and installed all the parts before we bought an RV. This shows you that the installation videos are spot on. I could never hook up a trailer and 'try it out'. But everything worked perfectly. I kept all the weights under limit, used a weight distribution hitch, brake controller, Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, and side mirrors, along with the class III hitch, and 4 pin and 7 pin wiring harness that I installed.
My Tacoma is only rated for towing 3500# but we never had a problem pulling a 3000# load. 65 was tops on the speed and that was on a straight road.
My scan gauge indicated that my transmission temp stayed at 165 except for when we traveled through stop and go city traffic. Then it rose to 185/190 for short times. Back on the road and it dropped to 165/170 a gain.
I was really impressed with this little cooler.

Still going strong after a year.

by:

This was fairly easy to install. As far as I can tell it's working great. I am trusting that it will help extend the life of our transmission and keep things cool when we travel to the Rockies later this year.

Toyota FJ Cruiser

I installed this trans cooler in a Toyota FJ cruiser that I use for occasional towing of trailers/loads up to about 4500 lb. The cooler, of course, is hidden away in the engine compartment so I don't really see it. It does the job I expected, keeping the trans fluid within range with no drama. I am quite satisfied with it and recommend it.

Dallas M.

10/28/2021

Still working, no issues at all. I use the FJ to tow an overlanding trailer and occasionally a flatbed with a tractor on it. No increase in transmission temp for either situation. So the cooler works. Its just there. No drama, no issues.

2008 Honda Odyssey

So far so good. Just installed the cooler a couple days ago getting ready for a move trailing a full load for 1000mi.
Install guide and descriptions are very generic and therefore require a bit forethought and pre-work.
Will see how the product will hold up in the long run.
Shipping and transactions with etrailer have been excellent once again.

The product has been working fine and just as expected. Have not had any issues since the big haul last year.Definitely recommend this product for anyone in need of.

by:

I had this installed in my 2008 Nissan Titan to prevent transmission overheating. My Titan has the big tow package, max tow is 9,400 lbs and comes with a factory transmission cooler but it just wasn't enough to keep the gauge out of the hot zone when towing heavy. After installing this I pulled my 5000lb 27ft camper in 104 degree heat up hills and with a head wind, the gauge never left the normal temp range area. I would buy again. I do recommend this transmission cooler for additional protection against heat.

by:
2005 Honda Odyssey

I have is d Etrailer 8 or 9 times. Everything I've ever bought from Etrailer has been great. The installation videos alone are great, but the the thought that goes into the gagets they ship with the hitches to get the job done at home is amazing. There customer service is great also. I didn't need one of the parts I purchased so I returned it with no issues or hassle. Thank you!!! It's rare to find a company with values like yours.

2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

The cooler is a great add-on to help guarantee the life of my transmission in my 2007 Chevy Trailblazer.

The size was perfect for mounting just behind my grill and well in front of the stock radiator with barely any modification/trimming of the surrounding plastic. I have no real world temperatures but I am happy knowing the the temps in my transmission are at least a little bit cooler.

The only mist-step is the included mounting pieces. While handy to get things in place after forgetting to pick-up bolts, washers and nuts, the plastic ties really didn't hold up well for the 2 weeks until I removed them. They also don't play well with the bendable mounting kit unless you have something to eat up the space when the ties are tightened as far as they can go. Again, it's minor and had I remembered to purchase the hardware I eventually used prior to the actual install, I probably wouldn't even be writing this.

Also, the hose is certainly not long enough for my application.

2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Purchased a Tranny cooler from Etrailer a year ago and it has worked out great. Parts shipped out quick. Everything was of the highest quality. Very easy to install with the bracket kit. I will be sure to use Etrailer again.

by:
2009 Honda Odyssey

Previously installed cooler from Etrailer in a 09 Odyssey. Hauled trailer all through WA, OR, ID, WY, UT, NM and CO (crazy high passes) with no problems.

New cooler is for '13 Jeep GC. The cooler came with clear instructions and all necessary fittings. I will mount it on aluminum brackets to bumper behind grill rather than plastic rivets to rad.

Thank you.

Chevrolet Traverse

This was recommended by etrailer for my Traverse. It was fairly easy to install, (mostly with help from YouTube videos). I took my time and it took about 3 hours. If I did it again it could probably be done in an hour or less. It's been a year of towing an 18' ski boat and it has totally done the job. That adapter that is recommended with this is vital as far as I can tell.

1998 Honda Accord

Great transmission cooler for my 1998 Honda Accord, it made it & better and reduce the transmission slipping after a long drive on the freeway. Easy installation and a great value. Would buy again.

by:

The hitch assembly that I purchased from etrailer.com for my Honda Odyssey and the transmission cooler are working fine and I have pulled my 1972 Shasta camper several times without fail. I'm very pleased with the product quality and the easy to follow instructions included.

by:
2006 Toyota Sienna

I installed this cooler on our 2006 Sienna to extend its life while towing our R-Pod 172 trailer. It appears to be doing its job, and after a year everything is still in it's place. Installation required a tiny bit of tinkering to route the hoses and zip ties, but it all went about as expected. The job was done in an afternoon (I am handy enough, but definitely not a car mechanic). I did wrap and tape some sheet metal around parts of the hoses to protect them from getting cut where they would otherwise be pushed against sharp edges. See photos.

by:
2010 Chevrolet Avalanche

I wish I would have done this sooner. The cooler was way simpler to install than I ever thought it would be. The only difficult part was romoving the front clip of my 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche. I feel much more secure knowing my transmission is cooler while towing my camper.

by:

We use this to help us tow a 3,000lb camper with a 4 cylinder Tacoma. It works well. We didn't like the plastic mounting hardware to piggyback it onto your existing radiator so we used thick zip ties to mount it to the radiator frame.

The product selection and prices are great and so is the service team. I didn't get to install my new transmission cooler yet but I can say the kit has every single thing I need including awesome instructions with clear diagrams and everything and the staff was very helpful helping me choose what fittings I needed to avoid having to cut my stock transmission lines. They seem to have all their bases covered. I'll provide pictures after the install. Thanks etrailer staff I appreciate all the info and great products. Keep it up.

Congratulations on the new trailer! I looked up your new 2021 Jayco 154BH travel trailer, and it has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 3450lbs. • Is It Hard To Install a Transmission Cooler On a Honda Pilot
The installation of a transmission cooler is not difficult per se but it will take some time. The first part of the process is removing various panels and trim pieces until you have access to the space in front of the radiator. Then, once this is done you will need to find out which line is for the return side but this is pretty easy as all you will need to do is cycle through the gears a few times and then feel each line to see which is hot and which is cool.
