Recommended Aftermarket Transmission Cooler for 2003 Honda Odyssey Towing 3,000 Pounds

Question:

I will be towing about 3,000 lbs with my 2003 Honda Odyssey. Which ATF cooler would you recommend for this towing scenario? Thanks for your help,

Expert Reply:

Since the load you will be towing is nearing the top of your 2003 Honda Odyssey's towing capacity, I recommend using the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13503. This cooler measures 11 inches wide x 8-3/4 inches tall x 7/8 inches deep. This large surface area will offer plenty of cooling capabilities for the transmission fluid, and the plate-fin style cooler is more efficient than a tube and fin cooler.

If you'd like or need a slightly smaller cooler, the Derale # D13502 is 1-1/2 inches shorter, measureing 11 inches wide x 7-1/4 inches tall x 7/8 inches deep. This cooler will also work well to help further cool your transmission fluid. This is our most popular cooler among our customers for the 2003 Odyssey.

The best place to mount an aftermarket transmission cooler is in front of the radiator, where it will get the best air flow. I've attached a help article on engine oil coolers, the installation instructions for both of these coolers for you, and an installation video of the # D13503 cooler on a similar Odyssey to yours.
