Specs:
A trailer jack is designed to lift the tongue of your trailer so you can connect the trailer coupler to your hitch ball. To do this, you'll need a jack with a lift capacity high enough to handle your trailer's tongue weight.
Tongue weight is the amount of weight that your trailer applies to the back of your tow vehicle. Typically, your tongue weight should be 10-15% of your total trailer weight (trailer + cargo). In other words, a 10,000-lb trailer would have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs. For a trailer this size, you would need a jack with a lift capacity of at least 1,500 lbs.
It's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher lift capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time camping.
Every jack offers a certain amount of lift or travel. Screw travel is the distance the jack extends when you crank it (or toggle it to "extend" on an electric model). Some jacks include a drop leg for extra adjustability. On these jacks, you'll see the maximum extension of the drop leg listed in the specs as well. Adding the screw travel and drop leg travel together will give you the total lift. The total lift listed above can help you determine how high this jack will be able to raise your trailer.

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. And today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt A-frame round jack. This is going to be the device you need at the front of your trailer to help lift it up or drop it down so you can get it connected or disconnected from your coupler. So it's very important to keep these guys in good working order. This should be a good fit for a lot of different trailers.
It does have that triangular style. So it works well for the A-frame style trailers. And let's take a little closer look at it so you can see the features and make sure that this is going to be the right fit for you.So as you can see, it's going to have, again, that triangular plate there. This does have a height for that bracket of.. eight and a quarter inch, whenever it's fully retracted.
If we we're to extend this all the way up, it's 22 and five eighths inches. So that gives it a total lift of 14 inches and three eighths. The mounting bracket spacing for the holes center to center is three and a quarter inch. That's going to be the same for all of those three mounting spaces. The inner tube diameter is two inches.
The outer tube is two and a quarter. The clearance from the bottom of the bracket to the top of your handle is 11 and an eighth inch. So it's going to be to the top here. If we go to the top of the actual handle, where we hold on to it, it's about 16 and a quarter inch. The lift capacity for this jack is 2000 pounds, it is covered by a limited lifetime warranty. You can find the footplate or caster sold separately here at etrailer.com and a couple of different options, so it just kind of depends on your application.
This is again a top wind jack, and it does have that bolt on application, but it does not come with any hardware so you'll either need to reuse your old hardware or get some new. The in the gearbox is going to be internal, so pretty compact should stay a fairly small on your trailer. That's really about all there is to it for our look at the Curt round A-frame trailer jack. I hope this video has been helpful in deciding if this is the right piece for you. If not, we do have a lot of other options available here at etrailer.com. Again, I'm Ellen here. Thanks for watching..
