Speaker 1: Today on our 2008 Ford F-150, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Curt Custom Fit Class IV Trailer Hitch Receiver. This offers the 2"-by-2" receiver tube opening. It's part number is C14360. Now, here's what your hitch is going to look like once you get it installed in your truck. As you can see, it's really straightforward. Going to have the square cross tube here.
This is going to be a Class IV hitch. It's going to make it really very versatile and very heavy duty. It's going to be really good for your towing needs, but it's also because of the 2"-by-2" receiver tube opening, going to work out really well with your bike racks, cargo carriers. Really, anything that they make for a Class III will fit your 2"-by-2" receiver tube opening. Now to secure those items in place, you're going to have a 5/8"-diameter pin hole. That pin hole you'll want to use to secure any of those items once you get them in your hitch.
There's a good amount of room all the way around so whether you want to do a locking hitch pin, an anti-rattle bolt or just a standard pin and clip, should have plenty of room to make that happen. You can see they've flushed off the end of it here with the reinforcement collar. That's going to be maybe just a 1/4" outside the bumper there. I really don't think you'll have any problems running into it or anything like that, though. You're going to have a plate-style safety chain connection point here, an oval-shaped hole. You can see with your standard safety chains, not going to have any problem at all there.
If you have the larger-style clip, this looks like this, for a heavier-duty trailer, you can see those will also connect in there fine. It's not as free as the smaller ones, but no issues there with getting them hooked up. Now as far as weight ratings go, the hitch offers us a 1,000-pound tongue weight rating. That's the maximum downward force we can put at the receiver tube opening. And it's going to give us a 10,000-pound gross trailer weight rating.
That would be the total weight of your trailer and anything you we're to load up on it.The hitch is also rated for use with weight distribution. When using torsion or spring bars, the tongue weight rating goes up to 1,200 pounds, and your gross trailer weight rate is going to go up to 12,000. But of course, you don't want to exceed the tow rating on your F150, so be sure to check your owner's manual for that. Now, a few measurements that'll be helpful for selecting your ball-mount bike rack or hitch cargo carrier will be, from the ground to the inside top edge of a receiver tube opener, we've got about 16-3/4". Then, from the center of our hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our bumper, it's about 1-3/4". Now, you'll notice, we've removed our spare tire. That's going to kind of be an optional step for you. It makes it so you can see a lot better what we're doing. You may or may not. Again, that's up to you.But with the help of an extra set of hands, we're going to get our hitch lifted into position. Got our small carriage bolt. That's going to go through this hole located right here. Put them in a little bit. We'll then come up right to the end of the frame rail, and the bolt's going to go through that elongated hole. Once that's through, we're going to use our flange nut. I'm just going to thread that on, get it nice and hand-tight, and that'll actually hold the hitch in position, so we can get the rest of our hardware going. Now, your second attachment point is going to be where the hitch kind of rounds off here on the back side. This would be towards the front of the truck, however. Going to take our carriage bolt, and we're going to slide that in through the hole in the frame, and just throw another flange nut on the back side. We're going to do this on both sides. Now, your bumper is going to have safety chain connection points that hang down here. That's where, if you mounted a ball up there on the bumper. We want to take the larger hex bolt, put the flat washer on it. And we want to bring that through the hitch, through that connection point, then thread our flange nut on it. We'll have one of these on each side. Now, we're ready to get our hardware all snugged down. For our flange nuts on our two carriage bolts, we're going to use a 19 mm socket. Now, for the middle bolts here, we're going to need to use a 15/16th or a 24 mm. This one, if you have this four-pole bracket on, is going to be tough to get to. So I'd recommend pulling this off. We're just going to pry down to get the plug off the bracket. Then we can use a 13 mm socket on the bolt right there into the bottom of the truck. Going to set that aside. Once we have that tight enough, we can put it back on.Now we'll go through and torque all of our bolts down to the specifications. You'll find those listed in the instructions. Now, with everything torqued down, we'll get our bracket put back in place here. With everything torqued down properly, now would be a good time to put that spare tire back in if you removed it. It's going to complete our installation of the Curt Custom Fit Class IV Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number C14360, on our 2008 Ford F-150.

This fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your vehicle's frame with no welding required. Powder coated steel is sturdy and corrosion resistant. The trailer hitch receiver came in quick from etrailer. All the needed hardware came with it and the receiver lined up perfectly with the truck. Installation took only a few minutes. It works great and has held up as expected.
Perfect fit, super easy to install! Didn’t have to take down my spare tire or adjust anything to make it work. Strong & sturdy. Took me about 20 minutes.
Easy install. Everything lined up on my Curt trailer hitch receiver C14360. 30 min install.
Also bought the Hopkins in-sight flex mount brake controller HM47297 and the Hopkins plug in wire kit for ford to Hopkins controller HM47715. This adapter saved me loads of time installing controller another 30 min install.
All was left was find my factory wires for trailer brakes and 12v battery supply and I was finished. I would say I spent 1.5 hrs installing and .5 hrs cleaning up. I use this brake controller in all my vehicles.
Where do I start the product is excellent in aperance and construction. Everything about this curt hitch screams quality and strong including the grade A hardware. The only comment I have is regarding the ordering of the hitch I called and was told it would fit my 06 f150 with factory hitch. Upon arrival I realized it will not fit an 06 unless you go and get the factory bumper support. I was planning on returning but after taking a look at the quality I went ahead and searched out the dealer part. That should give you an indication how much I thought of the product.
The trailer hitch I ordered arrived on the exact date as indicated when ordered. Product was wrapped well to prevent any scraping and was un-damaged. As verified before I placed the order, it fits and installed perfectly. Dry pleased with the product. After much research, I found etrailer has the best price and the product is well built. Would shop this company again and would recommend to family and friends.
It fits perfectly on my truck, all the photos on the website were the decisive factor for me, knowing that I will order the exact model that fits this car, not just another ‘universal hitch’
It arrived in 5 days total, as I was told from the beginning.
Free shipping and tracking number.
Great service!
Receiver hitch was solid & good quality. I'm an old man and it took me about 45 minutes to install.... Impressed how accurate the hitch receiver holes and my F150 frame holes lined up for the attaching hardware (bolts & nuts). Pretty simple to install and happy that I saved money and time. Recommend it.
A quality product and the installation was easy less the 20 minutes. Fast delivery and I would order again.
After we loosened the bumper bolts so we could adjust better, the attachment was a breeze!!! Went on without a "hitch"...
Very good product for the price. Well built, easy to install with the included instructions which are well laid out. Took less than 30 minutes to install.
Went on with no problems, all the correct fasteners were provided
Everything was AA+. Customer service to shipping.. Product arrived a day ahead of schedule.. will definitely use them again.
Perfect fit and installed very quickly!! Super fast shipping too!! Now we're ready for the Family Camping trip!!!

Thank you. The hitch still performs perfectly.
Overall the receiver is fine, I just wish it mounted as easy as your video shows. I don't know if it was a lack of precision in the receiver construction or if my 2008 F-150 was a little off spec, but the flange supports that attach to the frame were sprung a little wide and didn't slide in easily at all. On my third attempt, flat on my back in the driveway, I used a pipe clamp to squeeze the flanges in far enough to jack them into position. My 75 year-old body is worn out, but I'm happy with end result.

Trailer hitches are constructed so that the mounting flangesside plates are made of softer metal so the hitch can flex along with the vehicle when necessary. Because of this, the hitch can get flexed during shipping and handling. There are simple methods to get the hitch back into position, as shown in the article Ive linked for you.
Installation was very easy, just needed another pair of hands.
My Curt Custom Fit Class IV 2" receiver has been a great choice for my hitch need. It fit perfectly and has worked well for pulling my hay trailer around the farm, gravity wagon to the co-op and back for feed and pulling my utility trailer for spreading mulch.

Still very pleased with my purchase. I don’t think about it because I know it’ll do what I need it to do. Just hook and go. So glad I purchased it.
Hitch has nice finish. Bolted on to truck nicely, definitely need to loosen 4 bumper bolts 2 get hitch 2 bolt up on frame. Use floor jack with small 2x4 to hold hitch up 2 install bolts & 2 realign bumper level with body.

Great, like it should, pulled a 5000 lb. load with no problem.
Installed it in about an hour. No problem with the hitch, my bumper was bent. Needed to use a floor Jack and some oak blocks to get it properly aligned. I’m an old guy and a second pair of hands would be recommended. Great product.
Just Got the Curt Hitch Receiver for our 2007 F-150, 20-30 Min install, I never had to loosen my bumper bracket bolts or spare tire, Fits great, highly recommend this product.

The Curt trailer hitch has preformed well with no problems.
I have had the hitch on the truck now for a year and zero issues. Installation was simple and fitment was spot on!
I will purchase this brand of hitches for my next truck if it doesn’t have one already.
Didn’t have the tools to install this myself, plus I realized I needed to remove my bumper as well. I ended up taking it to my mechanic and he installed it lickety split! Couldn’t be happier with the hitch.

it has been a very good hitch I am happy to say I will recommend your products any time.
Just installed my Curt trailer hitch from etrailer. I took just a few minutes. looks great on my 2008 ford. I was limited on trailer use because the stock steel bumper hitch on my 2007 dodge sat to high and limited my use of my trailers. Before I found etrailer I was considering going to a moving company and having one installed. Did it myself at less than half the price.
