Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Seems ok but I am concerned about the welding job as the welding wasn't done on both sides of each part. But I'm no welding expert so may be fine. Another dislike was the paint was flaking off on the edges. But all in all seems sturdy. Took me about 3 hours to completely install it. Was pretty easy. I didn't cut out the metal pieces on each side like the video tells you to do, Instead, I just hammered them down.

After about a year the hitch has been working well for me. My bikes are kinda heavy and with the bike rack weight I am getting close to the Max of 200 pounds downward force. But all in all works well. Try not to drive fast when using it as again I have alot of weight on it. But hasnt failed me yet.

@Steven Good deal! As long as you're not exceeding the tongue weight capacity of the hitch or that of the vehicle (see owner's manual), you'll be good to go!

2022 Honda Civic

I've installed several hitches on different cars and I found this to be fairly easy. No where close to the difficulty it was rated at. On my 2022 I did not have to remove the tail lamps nor did I have to cut any part of the metal bumper. Fit perfectly.

The hitch has been great for transporting two bicycles and at times a hitch rack.

This fits well on my 2024 Civic Si and I would highly recommend it! One thing I will say, though, is to expect your hitch to be damaged in shipping. I have seen many reviews on this website showing damaged boxes in shipping. I’ve ordered two of these from this site and both came with holes in the box and paint damage/chipping to both hitches. This is not the end of the world for me, and because this is a review of the hitch and not the company’s ability to ship things, I give it 5-stars.

Arrived in 2 days. Had it installed and it looks excellent. Fit my 2024 Honda Civic perfectly and it's a clean look.

by:
2022 Honda Civic

Solid hitch! Install wasn't that bad. Just had to be careful removing the lights and bumper piece. Once that was completed this hitch just bolts on with the bumper.

by:
2019 Honda Civic

I've bought about 6 hitches from etrailer and have been pleased with all of them. I did have to grind a little bit off this hitch to fit over some contours in the car body but that only took a couple of minutes. The job was completed within the 2 hours advertised.

Its still working just great. And no rust has appeared yet.

I received the item two days later than the original estimated date. It seemed to be well made and in good condition. The next day I did the installation. It went relatively smoothly except that neither the instructions nor the video (which was mostly very helpful) didn't mention to avoid the welds when cutting out the pieces from the metal bumper. Then when I tried to attach the hitch and bumper, the holes didn't seem to line up. I called customer service. Amy was very polite and asked me to send a photo of the problem so she could forward it to an installer/technician. I received a call-back fairly quickly, but the diagnosis of the problem made no sense - supposedly a bad weld on the hitch, even though you couldn't even see the hitch in the picture. I didn't want to have to return the hitch and go through the whole process of reassembling my car and then disassembling it again when the hitch arrived, so I just came up with my own (imperfect) modification to make it work. In the end, I like the way it looks on the car, and I’m expecting it to serve its purpose. I just hope they further investigate this problem with my particular make and model (2021 Honda Civic EX Hatchback) so others won’t have to experience the same frustration when installing.

2017 Honda Civic

Installed on a 2017 Civic EXT in a couple of hours. Fits perfectly and looks great with the cross tube hidden under the bumper cover. Instructions were well written. Hardest part for me was removing the bumper cover / being afraid I would break a clip or scratch the paint. Just take your time on this part of the process!

I regularly tow a small kayak trailer with all-up weight of 500 lbs and tongue weight about 60 lbs. The hitch handles it without issue.

Easy bolt on with some trimming of bumper and body. Nice and clean looking how the hitch just extends down.

Perfect Hitch for the civic. It is so discrete barely appearing below the bumper. The other type of hitch that attaches under the car requires drilling is not good. This hitch is seems perfect

by:

Worked great on my 2022 Civic Sport Hatchback. Unlike the previous generation (2021 and older) you DO NOT have to trim the internal metal bumper for clearance of the outer plastic bumper. Trimming the lower diffuser was pretty easy and only required a 3-1/4 in cut in depth and about 2-1/4 in width (If you want the gaps super tight). Remember to tape off the panels before you get started to prevent chips and paint scratches and you'll be set.

by:

I installed this on a 2020 Honda Civic Sport, which has a center exhaust. Per another customer's comments, I had a local muffler shop cut the exhaust and weld a new one on that would clear the hitch ($50). I didn't have to cut or modify anything else. This hitch is used for a bike rack and needs a 2" hitch. If you purchase a 1-1/4" to 2" straight hitch adapter, you may have issues with the bike tires hitting the road. You could remove the tires or opt for a hitch adapter that has a 5" or so rise.

by:
2018 Honda Civic

Excellent product. I saw the other Civic Si with this hitch on it and knew it could be a cleaner install. All it takes is a quick trip to the muffle shop to have them mock it up and shorten the 90s coming off your mufflers.

All advice is given without any warranty or acceptance of liability. If you follow these instructions, it's at your own risk.

Cut the 90s off leaving about 1/2" of straight pipe coming out of the mufflers. Then take the 90s and shorten them until they avoid the hitch. Then reweld the shortened 90s back on (I used a local muffler shop) and add a 2.25" pipe (bumped out) to slip over the existing pipes and reweld everything. Consider finishing with black hi-temp spray paint.

Couple other tips that were not in the instructions... you will greatly benefit from having access to an angle grinder to notch the bumper. There were a couple steps that were not called out in the instructions, namely:

1. Directly behind the flanges connecting the bar to the frame you need to make a small notch for the flange to fit flush.
2. There are two tabs that need to be bent down that hold the stock bumper up. You can't properly bolt the hitch up with these sticking out.

Great hitch. Pretty easy install. Website stated 10/10 difficulty...was a little apprehensive because of that...but went ahead. Glad I did! Took about 2 hours...with two phone calls from my daughters along the way. Used a dremmel tool to cut out the bumper for clearance per the instructions. Interestingly, I used the dremmel tool to cut out the slot for the receiver...it kinda melts the bumper...just rub it off with your finger and it is a smooth clean cut. First picture is with the bumper and fascia off...second is the back of my new 2019 hatchback with the bumper still on...3rd is the finished installation...looks great! Going to put a Black on Black Honda hitch cover on...$4.95 on eBay! Price on the hitch was great too!

Hitch works great and was shipped quickly. I plan to pull a small harbor freight utility trailer with it for the occasional item that won't fit in the car. It took about 3 hours to install it and about the same about of time to install the electrical. Nice clean installation. The electrical kit was very nice and included a test light for finding the correct wires to tap into. The hardest part of the install was removing the rear bumper cover panel. It was hard to figure out how to get the clips to unhook with a screw driver. I found pulling up from the bottom while using a screwdriver to pop the clips seemed to work.

by:
2018 Honda Civic

Hitch works perfectly. This is my 5th E-trailer hitch I have owned and installed now.
I would buy again for the future (when necessary) and would recommend.

I installed this on a 2018 Honda Civic Si with center mount exhaust. To do this, I had to cut off the mass production exhaust and rebuild it (see photos).

Looks great and works perfectly.

This hitch was advertised to fit the new (11th gen) 2022 Civic sedan and hatchback, although I was somewhat concerned because all installation photos/videos and the enclosed instructions referenced the previous 10th generation. Needless to say, the installation went PERFECTLY, and aside from a few differences in clip/fastener locations for the bumper cover assembly, the instructions can be followed to the letter for this new generation. Most importantly, the cuts to the bumper beam and fascia cover are still spot on and lead to seamless installation. I am thrilled with the look of the finished product on my 2022 Civic hatchback!

2019 Honda Civic

I hesitated to purchase this hitch
because of the installation. I’m glad I made the purchase.

Much easier installation than anticipated.

1.5 hours total...including clean up, searching for a dropped screw and measuring 3 times to make sure my cut was accurate.

I placed a moving blanket under the rear of the car, no jack needed.

You need to use some force to get things going but I was careful.

I watched the 2019 hatchback installation video a few times...mine is the sedan and things were exactly the same.

Good luck with your installation.

2017 Honda Civic

This install was SO easy! The video tutorial I found on youtube was spot on. I have a 2017 Civic coupe and wanted a nicer bike rack, so this hitch was a perfect upgrade. Very reasonably priced, and no special tools needed. I have some mechanical experience and I chose to hammer down the corners of the bumper instead of cutting them off with an angle grinder as the video/ instructions demonstrate. I love running into ZERO issues when working on a vehicle.

I installed this Draw-Tite hitch on a new 2019 Civic hatchback. The installation took about two hours and went pretty smoothly. The video on etrailer.com was very helpful to understand the installation steps, but I made a few deviations that may be helpful to others.

1. I removed the tail light housings completely as it makes seeing the clips easier when reinstalling the bumper cover. After removing the two phillips screws, the tail lights are secured by two clips that release by pulling the housing outward. I then just unscrewed each bulb socket, released the one cable stay, and set them aside.

2. I used an air powered cut-off tool to trim the bumper ends for clearance - it worked fast and made a clean cut.

3. When reinstalling the bumper with the hitch, there is a hooked sheetmetal tab that extends from the bumper mount point on the car frame and rests in a notch on the bumper's mounting flange. With the added offset from the hitch, that tab can be difficult to latch and may get in the way. After struggling a bit to get both sides latched, I ended up just bending one tab down a little to move it out of the way. I'm guessing it's just an assembly aid for the factory.

4. The etrailer.com installation video has Shane cutting the fascia twice as wide as what the instruction sheet says. The video describes cutting an opening 5 inches wide (2 1/2 inches on each side of center), where the instruction sheet diagram shows a cut 2 1/2 inches wide (1 1/4 inches on each side of center). The narrower cut matches the hitch width and looks really clean. After using a step drill for the rounded corners of the cut , I then used a sharp razor blade to trim the plastic fascia. The bumper cover was out in the sun for some time which probably softened it a bit, but the razor cut it easily and made for a very clean cut.

Very happy with the results!

Honda Civic

It took less than two hours to install including setup and clean up. Our model civic did not have sensor wire to bumper facade. And did not need to trim structural bumper either. Piece of cake. Just a bit of touch up paint on the reciever on worn edges from shipping. Needed to file a bit of sticky excess paint inside the box so our bike rack could slide in smoothly. I think this is my 5th reciever I've purchased from etrailer and will turn to them again.

I love my hitch! I have a 2018 Honda civic Si 6 speed manual transmission. I tow a small motorcycle trailer A few times a year but mostly have my bicycle carrier on it, almost daily!

Hi im happy i purchase this product took me 2 to install the product from installing and cutting underneath dont rush to cut the space so you wont cut it so wide you have to measure the center, the rear bumper to look neat i use flexible rubber hose around the cut at seen in the picture. I love this product because you can hide the long tube underneath the bumper to look nice and clean. Just follow the instruction and everything just fine. I surely recommend this product to any sedan car who wants there hitch rack looks great. Thank you

Kit for a 2016 Honda Civic sedan. Bolt-on. Also shows a Star Wars plug and a Class 1 to Class 2 hitch adapter. I'm really happy with how it turned out, even if it was a ton of effort to put on the vehicle.

As ALWAYS etrailer comes through with good products, described honestly. AND terrific customer service! The ONLY suggestion I would like to offer on the hitch installation instructions is : The trimming of the 2017 Honda bumper bar is too general, and depending on which low quality picture you look at, leaves some question on “where to cut”. I suggest that a paper template be included so that the “cut here” lines can be more definitive.

Works well as a bike hauling hitch. I have never used it as a trailer hitch.

The metal bumper trimming is an as needed situation for the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24954 on your 2022 Honda Civic.
