Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Installed and used for a year now, works great. The fitment was perfectly aligned for my 2009 Focus. The installation instructions were clear and concise. Highly recommend this product.

by:
2008 Ford Focus

Initially thought the install was too difficult, but that was because I laid down on the cold floor before i read the instructions! my own fault.

The install was quite simple and very well explained in the included instructions.
I had trouble cutting the heat shield so I chose to find the hole and use a punch to make it rather than cutting a larger piece out. This worked fine, may or may not have been easier. once installed had a GREAT fit. nice and tight tot eh bumper, nothing hanging out that didn't need to be.

I will mainly be using for a hitch mounted bicycle rack (xxx rack in photo) and the hitch held this very securely. I will not lose any sleep over hauling my expensive bikes with this budget hitch.

Quick shipping. Great value.

Still solid. After a year of hauling bikes, I cant say I have notice any wear or movement on the hitch. Solid as ever.

Arrived quickly, packaged nicely and with all hardware. Simple installation, took about 45 mins by myself. Tows my 4x6 trailer with a 500cc atv, approximately 800-900lbs total. Paired with the Curt plug & play light kit and all is well.

Photos of the hitch and bike rack on a 2010 ford focus, easy to install, great hitch, and bike rack is very well built and very sturdy.

by:

Great service provided by the staff, they were quickly to respond to my questions before and after placing my order. Shipping was fast and installation was easy to follow with the instructions provided. Highly recommend buying from here!

This is exactly what I wanted. I just installed it so I haven't used it yet, but its perfect for my bike rack. It will be nice to take my bike and not have to drive my truck all the time. It took me a little over an hour to install it but that's mostly because I kept having to crawl under the car and I was by myself.

by:

Great ExperienceI love this product so far. It was easy to install, as stated, and was shipped extremely fast. I have not used the product yet, but it is very well built and met my expectations. I also ordered a wiring kit with this product and it was a great product as well. It was also easy to install and was a quality item. Thank you very much for a great buying experience!!

by:

great hitch, very impressed with swagman xtc-2 bike rack both easy to install, bike rack very sturdy and well built.

by:

Trailer hitch is good but the packaging left something to be desired. It came with part of the hitch sticking out of the box, passersby would know what was in it just by glancing at it...

I still like them just fine. Never an issue with either the hitch or the lights. Thanks

2011 Ford Focus

I am pleased with the etrailer Draw-Tite hitch which I installed on my 2011 Ford Focus. Delivery from etrailer was prompt. The hitch was well packaged and undamaged on arrival. Etrailer installation video's were extremely helpful. Attachment points on the etrailer Draw=Tite hitch matched perfectly with the frame of my 2011 Ford Focus. Installation of my etrailer Draw-Tite hitch took about 3-4 hr. working solo off a garage floor. I found that once the in-frame nut plates were positioned, supporting the hitch on partially tightened aft attachment bolts eased solo installation. Installation of the wiring harness was straight forward but required attention to detail. We have gotten good service from our etrailer Draw-Tite hitch. We have used it on several occasions to pull a 5x8 Uhaul, single axle trailer during a home move. Both trailer hitch and harness have functioned well. After 1 yr of use, our etrailer Draw-Tite hitch remains rust free and in good condition.

I put hitch on my car so I could haul my bikes with an adaptable bicycle rack. Works great! I appreciated the quickness of the hitch arrival after ordering. The installantion directions were great, although a job like this is always a little bit "hair raising"! Great product, great service. Would give high recommendations to etrailer and would use again if I ever need another hitch.

by:
2010 Ford Focus

This is the fifth or sixth hitch that I have purchased from etrailer.com and once again they did not let me down. All of the hitch have come with great instruction and all necessary hardware. They also included additional parts that aid in the installation, such as, getting a bolt in through the frame and out a hole over a distance of several inches.

If you have a safe place to jack up a car and a few simple tools, you'll have no problems.

by:
2008 Ford Focus

I purchased this receiver and harness for my 2008 Focus coupe, it went on as simple as the video showed, (I did it myself with the rear on ramps, although no wire feeds were in the package, I used safety wire twisted on the frame bolts to pull the 2 bolts and spacers into the frame, it went fine though. It fits nice and tucked under the bumper, it should work well to pull my 5'x8' utility trailer to get anything moved that won't fit in the trunk.) However, be careful which hole you route your harness thru for the taillights, I crushed 3 wires to GND behind my left taillight and had to repair the harness.

by:
2008 Ford Focus

The whole experience was great. Purchased a hitch and wiring harness for my son's ford focus so he could tow a small trailer to support his move to Florida. This turned out to be the most affordable and convenient option available.

This installation of all the pieces was simple, the instructions were easy to follow and his trip went without incident.

I would highly recommend these products to anyone.

2009 Ford Focus

It was pretty easy to install, and the included bolt feeder(if that's what it is called) made it easy to install the hardware through the frame. Towed our little utility trailer across the country no problem. I would highly recommend this hitch to anyone.

I am amazed at how quickly the product came in the mail. It was packed perfect, and the directions couldn't have been written any more clearly! Took me about 35 minutes to do with the help of a friend. Would highly recommend this product and company to anyone!

by:

The hitch and extra accessories I ordered arrived in perfect condition and were packaged very nicely. Everything was wrapped together to prevent items from bouncing around in the box. After watching the instructional video, installation was exceptionally easy. The only time I needed to refer to the instructions was for the torque wrench setting. Total installation time including setup and cleanup was about 1 hour. The hitch seems very well constructed (haven't towed anything yet) and was a perfect fit. No missing parts or adjustments needed. I'm very happy with the hitch and even more so with the service provided from etrailer.com. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent customer service! The step by step videos were absolutely awesome.

Installed on my 2008 ford focus without any issues. Completely satisfied with the install and product. Highly recommended.

by:
2011 Ford Focus

I bought this for my 2011 Ford Focus SE. Installation time quoted on you web site was 45 minutes, and is about what it took me working alone. I was able to do it without jacking the car, which is always a plus.

Before installing it watch the video etrailer produces. While the directions are helpful, the video is great. The hint about taping the bolts was great. Since I was working alone I also used tape to hold the spacers to the frame while I used a floor jack to lift the hitch into position.

by:
Ford Edge

Straightforward install and a perfect fit, of course. The estimate of 5" from hitch bolt hole to outside edge of bumper is pretty accurate. I chose this hitch because my bike rack protrudes 6" from the bolt hole and with this hitch I have about an inch of clearance from the bumper to the rack. (I chose this hitch over the Curt because the Curt sits an inch deeper under the car. I'm glad I did because it would have been a pretty tight fit if the rack were an inch farther under the car.)

If at all possible have someone hold the hitch for you while you bolt it to the car (like they do in the video). I found myself home alone and it was tricky to do it solo while laying on the ground under the vehicle. Though I did eventually discover that the notch in the Focus jack that is meant to hold the car also holds one end of the rack perfectly while you work on the other end. Still, performing the install alone meant that it took me more like 90 minutes start to finish rather than the 30 that eTrailer estimates.

Make sure you have a deep-ish 11/16" socket for the job. Probably 2 inches deep should do. I had to purchase one midway through the job (not included in the aforementioned 90 minutes) because the standard socket was bottoming out on the carriage bolts before I could torque them to spec.

I only removed the rear-most (closest to the bumper) exhaust hanger and was able to manage the job, but the rack bolt that ends up directly above the exhaust was difficult to torque down due to obstruction by the muffler.

The hitch is of excellent quality. It arrived quickly and safely, eTrailer.com's customer service and installation video were excellent, and the hitch does its job.

I recieved my order in a timely manner withthe free shipping I recieved with my purchase. The installation was very easy with the directions supplied by etrailer.com and I was able to use my hitch right away with the confidence in knowing I installed a quality product myself. I will certainly make future purchases from etrailer.com because of the money I saved and the great service provided!

Everything was going fine until I tried getting the last two bolts in.These are the bolts that are behind the bumber. The holes didnt line up on the drivers side. I had to drill frame in order to get bolt thru.
All in all it worked out ok.Instructions were easy to follow. For both the hitch and the wiring kit. This is the second hitch I've puchased.I would purchase another hitch if needed for another auto.

I got this rack so I could mount a hitch mount bike rack. It was straightforward to install and was doable by myself. The hardware that it comes with make it possible. So far I have zero regrets for purchasing this rack and I've been using it for about a year.

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2008 Ford Focus
The Draw Tite Hitch part # 24805 that you referenced would be an excellent choice for a hitch to install the Swagman XC Bike Rack part # S64650 that you also referenced. This rack should sit low enough to allow you to install your bike racks easily, but not so low that you would have ground clearance problems. Check out the review video I attached for the bike rack. The capacity you are looking for is the tongue weight capacity. Tongue weight is the term used for how much vertical load can be on the hitch. For trailer hitch # 24802 for your 2009 Ford Focus the tongue weight capacity is 200 pounds. You will want to check the Focus owners manual to see if it has a tongue weight capacity. Whichever is lower, the hitch or the vehicle, that is the capacity you will need to go by. I have included a link to a video showing installation of the hitch and a...
