Perfect fit on a 2001 4Runner. Not sure if it fits with factory spare tire location if you’re running larger tires, so keep that in mind. Seems well made, powdercoat finish is nice and I like that the safety chain hook location is on the top of the hitch. Does not add much rear overhang from the factory bumper and tucks up high to the bumper for hood ground clearance.

2002 Toyota 4Runner

fantastic product, great customer service, great price. Looks great on my 4Runner also

by:
1999 Toyota 4Runner

Perfect fit on my 99 4Runner Limited. No drilling and I installed it by myself in 30 min with a socket set and a torque wrench. If you have a 3rd Gen that no longer has the tow hook bolts in the back you’ll need to pick up some M12x1.25 bolts and washers to complete the installation. Now I have a solid rear recovery point to tow or get towed out of sticky spots while off-roading. Delivery arrived a day earlier than promised too!

by:
2000 Toyota 4Runner

Fast shipping! The hitch was easy to install and fit great. It took longer to get the old bolts off than to install!

by:

We ordered a trailer hitch from etrailer for our Toyota 4Runner. Ordered on a Wed., arrived on a Friday, two days later. Super easy to install (except for a couple of old rusty bolts already on the frame), and now we're all good!! And saved a couple of bucks!!

We feel confident in ordering from etrailer, and will not hesitate to do business with them again!!

Everything we purchased last year on our Trailers project from etrailer has held up like champs! One year later, would still recommend. They actually have me thinking about making sure I dont need something else!!

by:

Etrailer had the best price for the hitch that I was looking for. The shipping was fast and the installation of the hitch was super easy with the guide that was provided. I have towed a lot over the past year and have experienced no issues with the hitch.

by:
2002 Toyota 4Runner

This was a great replacement for the Original tow bar that was rusting and needed to be changed. I didn't want to take the chance of using a trailer and having the Hitch fall apart. It was easy to install on my 4runner and I have used it several times to haul everything from furniture to a tractor. And, yes, I'm also a Raiders fan.

by:
1996 Toyota 4Runner

This trailer hitch was a breeze to install on my 4runner. With easy to follow instructions it only took about 30 minutes with the help of a friend which made it easier to lift it up in place. A shop quoated me $260 but it only cost half of that doing it myself. The receiver sticks out a little more than I want but the V design doesn't look bulk under the bumper. I'm very happy with the purchase. etrailer sent it out fast and it was easy to order.

by:

One year after having it installed and I haven’t yet used it to tow so very disappointed to say that it’s already chipping and showing rust spots where chipped. I’m now taking my original hitch to get sand blasted and powder coated to replace this one. Bummed

I recommend touching up the hitch with a rust resistant paint. Road debris can cause chips in the paint over time and the paint is good to have on hand for regular hitch maintenance.

1998 Toyota 4Runner

Needed a trailer hitch for my 98 4Runner. Great product. Only reservation I have is that it sticks out about 4-5 inches, which may become a problem when off roading and going up very steep inclines. We'll see. Solid product, easy installation (with 2 people).

2002 Toyota 4Runner

Product fit my 2002 Toyota 4Runner SR5 perfectly! I am lucky to live across the street from an auto store so I went there and they helped remove the two original bolts from the towing hooks under the car, in less than 2 minutes. I then installed the hitch receiver with the help of a friend. Easiest thing on this planet! This company, etrailer.com did a fantastic job from the moment I first called with questions, to ordering, follow up and I should add - super fast shipping! I would definitely buy again from them and will recommend them. Buy with confidence. I am a super happy customer.

by:

one of the best bolt on hitched appearance wise for the 3rd gen 4runners! it has kept up well for over a year of use! no issues here! install took 30 minutes solo

by:

Looks good. Survived shipping without any major dings or chips in the paint. The nutstrip instructions weren’t very clear that the last nut did not go inside the frame. Did not include new bolts that were suppose to be on the car already. Even if I had the old bolts it would have been nice to get new ones. Now I’ve got to go find the proper size bolt and thread to complete the install. Overall the hitch looks good though and lines up with the bumper perfectly

by:

Love my trailer hitch, instructions were provided and easy to follow/ install. Amazing customer service and follow up, would recommend etrailer.com to anyone who is thinking of buying any of their products. Thank you for making my experience a great one!

by:

Fast shipping, easy install, only needs two size socket 17mm and 19mm.

Toyota 4Runner

Straight forward and simple to install. Very solid construction. As another reviewer said the only part that required any effort was cracking through the rust on the factory 4Runner bolts holding the tow hooks on. Everything else was a breeze and it mounts solid. Just used it for a bike rack so far, but have no doubt it could attach many other items as well.

I am Extremely Happy!!! : ) with my trailer hitch order. Installation was smooth and easy. It took me less than an hour to install including the light kit. I wish all my projects would go this well.

Much Appreciated.......

by:

etrailer shipped this to an APO box in Japan saving me about $300 off the price here locally. Shipped quick and well packaged, zero damage to the heavy hitch. Would highly recommend buying from them in the US or via APO if you’re stationed overseas.

2 Years later it’s still working

by:

It is a 5000lb trailer hitch. Installation was pretty easy. Couple of bolts gave me a hard time. It is lower profile than what I had, so i have increased rear ground clearance. eTrailer was easy to buy from. Free shipping is a significant offer. I'd buy from them again.

2000 Toyota 4Runner

Frees up a significant amount of clearance from the factory hitch which is mounted below the hitch frame on a 2000 4runner. Simple installation process.

by:

Excellent!!

by:
2001 Toyota 4Runner

Installed on 2001 Toyota 4Runner. Very simple instal with no issues. The hooks for the chains are on top of the receiver which I am not used to, but the manufacturer picture shows it that way too. I like how it sticks out past the back bumper. Make a nice step to get stuff on the roof.

by:

I purchased a trailer hitch receiver over the phone.
Customer service was above average.
Shipping was faster than expected.
The parts I ordered were a perfect fit on my vehicle.

As always, my shopping experience with etrailer was great. An easy to use informative website, fast shipping with tracking, and great products. I have not had a bad experience with etrailer and will order from again.

The Draw Tite Hitch part # 75091 is confirmed to fit your 2001 Toyota 4Runner and we had a customer write in a review saying that this hitch installs without any interference with the factory spare tire. The instructions for this product indicate that you might need to position the spare further forward, but that you would be able to retain the spare. You will be able to keep your spare with this hitch.

  • What Comes with Curt Trailer Hitch 13087 for a 1998 Toyota 4Runner
The Curt trailer hitch # C13087, comes with the hitch itself and all necessary hardware to install it. Wiring, ball mounts, balls, and other accessories are sold separately. This is because different vehicle could require different size balls and ball mounts based on the trailers they are towing. This hitch fits 1996 to 2002 Toyota 4Runners, all models. I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. For...

  • Hitch Receiver for a 1997 Toyota 4Runner
All of the custom fit hitches, like the The Curt item # C13087 you were looking at, for a 1997 Toyota 4Runner mount below the frame. There is no way to mount the receiver above the frame on your Toyota to close off the gap caused by your two inch body lift. You could use a universal hitch that bolts directly to your bumper but you will have to drill through your bumper and it will have a lessor capacity than a custom hitch. It is the Curt 2" Trailer Hitch - Bumper Mount item # E-3S.

This Curt hitch will give you the same look as the Draw-Tite hitch # 75091, but will give you more towing capacity when using weight distribution. When the manufacturer tests the fit of a hitch like the Draw-Tite # 75091 they do not test for larger spare tires. If you want to stick with the Draw-Tite brand, I recommend going with the Max-Frame Hitch Receiver # 75091. It is a Class III hitch, has a 2 inch receiver, and is rated for a max of 500 lbs Tongue Weight and 5,000 max Gross Trailer Weight. We also have the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13087. The first thing you want to do is consult the owners manual of your 1998 Toyota 4Runner to determine if there are any restrictions on towing your vehicle and what the towing capacities are. You will need the towing capacity to be more than the weight of your travel trailer. Most likely you have the capacity, but you should still check to confirm this.
