2007 Ford Freestyle

This hitch receiver fit perfectly on my 2007 Freestyle. I really like how discrete it looks (almost hidden). No holes in the bumper cover or anything like that.
I have not tried it yet. Will try to update my review after I give it some use. I plan to mostly use it to hold a bike rack with a couple of bikes on it. And maybe to haul something light in the future.

Some notes about the installation:
- I managed to install it by myself with no help. It's a bit heavy and bulky, so you might want to keep that in mind.
- I did not detach the vacuum canister at first as suggested in the instructions manual. I was able to fit the hitch receiver frame to the car frame with no problem and was able to get the nuts started. But later on when it was time to torque the nuts to the proper value I finally ended up removing the vacuum canister in order to open up the access to the smaller nut.
- Fishing the bolts and the rectangular spacers/washers was a pain in the back for me. Both front bolts and spacers were no problem getting in place, but the rear ones gave me quite a headache. It turned out that the bolts were just a bit too long to be able to stand up right and to get into the square hole of the rectangular spacer. There was just not enough wiggle room for the bolt in that frame channel. So, I ended up rounding the tips of both bolts with a rotary tool (sanding bit) and that gave each of the rear bolts enough clearance to be able to pull them through the holes.
- I used some loctite on each bolt just in case.

One year later - all good! I mostly use this hitch receiver to attach a bike rack to the car and mount two bikes on it. I havent used the receiver to really haul anything with wheels on it yet. Although I am a bit cautious about that because of my cars CVT transmission. I do check the tension of the bolts every once in a while, as suggested in the manual. Overall I am really happy with this purchase!

Very easy installation, works great.

Bought
it with the wiring for my Ford Freestyle. Easy installation, works great.

Installation took all of 45 minutes... looks professional and no drilling. Everything bolts up easily. Hardest part was holding it in place to start bolts, but once I found I could let the muffler hold one side up while I start the other side... it went fast (would have only been 20 minutes).

Since installed... pulled multiple smaller trailers and (3) u-Haul car dollies. everything worked well without fail.

1 yr in, not a single problem to report.

Thank You.

Hitch continues to work great, looks great. With 4 kids, the ability to pull a small trailer on trips has made travel far more enjoyable. A great investment that has more than paid off in returns.

2007 Ford Freestyle

Easy install, perfect fit. Did not have a deep socket in the size needed, but other than that it was very easy to install. We use it for a bike rack only; have not towed with it.

2006 Ford Freestyle

First experience with etrailer and I have to say that they exceeded my expectations. The order process was smooth and easy. The hitch and wiring assembly showed up in a well packaged container. The instructions included with the product and available online made installation a snap. The fit and finish of the Curt hitch is excellent. Once installed the only thing visible is the 2" receiver with the main structure of the hitch packaged nicely out of view, flush to the underside of the vehicle. The plug and play 4-pole wiring kit was simple to install. Planning to use the hitch for hauling the mountain bikes to the trail-head and pulling a pop-up for weekend camping getaways!

by:
2005 Ford Freestyle

All items for installation were included. Couple of little points to make:
1. The instructions said 1/2" and 3/8" bolts. It was actually 3/4" and 3/8"
2. HIGHLY recommend using tape to hold the bolts you have fished into place. You will push the bolts into the frame if you you're not careful.
3. Requires a torque wrench capable of > 100ft pounds.
4. 2 people make this a breeze to install

Will buy from these guys again on my next vehicle. Quality goods.

2007 Ford Freestyle

Very happy with product. I installed it myself in about 90 minutes but had to use a jack to lift the hitch up to the bottom of the car since I had no helper. Video showing all the steps is spot on and fish wire worked well. Customer service was very good - they get it!

by:
2007 Ford Freestyle

Installation was easier than I thought it would be. I was worried about fishing the bolts through the frame, figuring I'd get it stuck somehow, but they all came right through, no problem. Fits perfectly and secure. My bike rack bolts right into it easily. Very satisfied.

After a year it is still working great

by:
Ford Transit Connect

The hitch was received two days after the order, in good condition. The added corrugated panels in the middle of the shipping box kept the hitch in place while in transit, and nothing was damaged. Hitch design is better than others, with gussets on the exhaust side to ensure needed strength. Installation was quick, the hitch fits perfectly, and it's tucked away under the bumper. Very happy with design, fit and finish of this Curt hitch.

The hitch has worked great on our 2009 Taurus SEL, but I had to have an exhaust shop lower the muffler half an inch. In reverse, with trailer in tow or not, there was a vibrating noise under the car. The exhaust system was making contact with the receiver hitch, and vibrating. It was an easy fix, and there was no charge to heat and bend the hanger tang. Very happy with the product!

Thanks for the follow up and reply. This is a great solution for your exhaust, it is not uncommon for a slight modification to be needed when installing a trailer hitch.

After a year its still looks just as good as it did when new. No problems At all. I would bye again but I wont have to... its a Curt trailer hitch, unless YOU pull something that is WAY WAY too heavy it will never break.

Solid product and installation was easy

by:
2007 Ford Freestyle

It wasn't as easy to install as I hoped. Mostly because of rusty screws in plastic on my car. But its on, its tight and it works just as I had needed. I have found the need to put shims in the sleeve to tighten it up and stop the racket. And the wiring bracket I got from you or somewhere else was a cinch to install, good video instructions - works great.

The hitch I bought several years ago for my 2007 ford freestyle works great!!

by:
2007 Ford Five Hundred

Thank you George for following up on that , much appreciated. Wow! It's been a year already? I will tell you that I have been very pleased with the hitch assembly, nicely packaged, easy instructions. I had struggled & debated for months to pay for an install at a local garage/trailer rental. The cost factor for that out the door would have been at least $375.00. I am a hands on fix all guy so I did it my self. So I took my car which I adore , a 07 Ford 500 stout passenger car & now pulling at capacity a trailer we call Scamper. A 3 door Half camper /hauler trailer. I am impressed at the custom fit which is paramount for a secure safe tight fit.

great job e trailer .the hitch was worth every penny.what i loved most was the video how to install. to see if i want to install it my self or take to shop.the hardest part of this job was jacking up and blocking the 2005 ford five hundred. it took about 2 hours . i had it already to install and i called my friend to help lift it in place he was there only 10 min. if it was a speed contest a could had it in a hour. it was a curt hitch 13542 .please have some help you it in place. your finger will thank you . e trailer gets a 10 from me . i am 65 yrs. old and it was a lot of fun installing it .

2007 Ford Freestyle

Great product. Great videos. The installation of the trailer hitch took around 1 hour. Backed the car up on car ramps which helped with the install. Sturdy and easily controlled pulling. Used our 2007 Ford Freestyle to pull a 5' X 8' [RENTAL] trailer loaded with a piano 200 miles with no problems! Also appreciate the removable hitch. No sore shins here :)

The hitch mounted my vehicle easily. I use the hitch to connect to a utility trailer and haul an assortment of items from household goods for moving from one home to another, to firewood for heating stoves and fireplace. The hitch arrived at my door two days after I ordered.

by:
2006 Ford Freestyle

Great product. Great service. Hitch was incredibly easy to install. WATCH INSTALLATION VIDEO to save a headache. I did first rear bolt wrong because I thought I had it down after front bolt. Just watch video and you're good. Printed instructions are simplistic and useful but video makes an amateur into an expert. I did install on the floor (no lift) and still had a good amount of room to work. 1.5 hours for me to finish. 40 minute install time is pretty much spot on for someone who listens and watches vid.

Etrailer service was fantastic as well. Had to have hitch and wiring shipped 2000 miles from my home, so I could meet package and service was flawless. Customer service called to confirm my shipping instructions and shipped order that day. Thank you also for UPS shipping.

by:
2005 Ford Freestyle

I am still very pleased with the Curt trailer hitch I bought and installed a year ago. I was able to install this hitch alone in less than an hour. It fits perfectly and tows or carries everything I expect it to.

by:
2007 Ford Freestyle

Thank you eTrailer. Your product was exactly what you ordered. I am very impressed with your company. The communication between the customer service people and me was outstanding. Even though the shipping carton was damaged, all the components were secured to the hitch so they were not lost.
Installation was a breeze with the online videos and photos. All the necessary part were included and the explained. With the help of a friend we installed the hitch and wire harness in under an hour.
Thanks for being there. I will be sure to spread the word of how great your company is.

2009 Ford Taurus

I purchased the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, it installed as easy as stated on the web site and doesn't take away looks of my wife's car...very important. More importantly the hitch mounted solidly to the vehicle and is itself a solid piece of metal able to handle anything I could pull with the car.

by:
2008 Mercury Sable

The trailer hitch was a excellent fit and was very easy to install it in about 40 min. the wiring harness was also great. I received the trailer hitch in 4 days .This is a great co. to deal with'.

The instructions, fit and appearance are great. Installed in about 2 hours. We've used this along with a bike mount to haul 2 bicycles all over 3 States without issues.

Still works great.

by:
2005 Ford Freestyle

This installed very easily on my Ford Freestyle. Only a couple notes. The kit only comes with two fish wires, one for each size bolt. This is crazy and would be nearly impossible to install. Luckily I had three more from another install to use. You need one for each bolt. Also, the instructions should tell you to install the muffler hanger onto the hitch prior to installing it. That would have been tons easier. Other than that it was tooless and pretty easy.

by:
2008 Mercury Sable

Fits our 2008 Sable perfectly! It is well worth it to purchase this custom hitch. We look forward to attaching our bike rack securely with this hitch. Great service from etrailer!!
