Video Transcript for Flint Hill Goods Trailer Dolly Review

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out the Flint Hill Goods trailer dolly. It's gonna be a quick and easy way to hook up to your trailer and move it over to a spot, maneuver it where you don't really wanna hook up your truck and move it around and go through all that. Let's check it out. The long handle makes it easy and gives you more leverage to pull the trailer. Now you can also pull the trailer to the towed vehicle so maybe if you don't want to back your truck up into a tight spot, you can bring the trailer to the truck and make it easier to hook up and haul.

From the center of the ball to the end of the handle you're gonna have 43 inches to work with. That leverage really helps out when moving the trailer. We have another trailer dolly around here that we use sometimes. It has a far shorter handle. It sits so much lower the ground.

You kind of have to crouch over and push or pull which is not good for your back and just makes it all that much harder. You can see how easily I'm just pushing the trailer back into a spot with this handle, and I don't have to crouch. Dolly's gonna be rated for 600 pounds tongue weight, so just keep that in mind with what trailers you wanna move around. Mostly small trailers, you don't wanna try and hook this up to something too big and cause any issues. Something else I like on this trailer dolly versus some of the other ones I've worked with is gonna be the rubber wheels so they're not just hard plastic wheels that scrape up on the concrete while you're using them.

These are rubber wheels that you inflate so that way you can add more air in to 'em when you need 'em to, and they maneuver very well. With a camper in a spot, we can remove the dolly and you can see it's got a one and seven eights inch ball on the dolly. Now you can unscrew that and replace it with a two-inch ball. Also remember, no matter what ball you put on here it is still only rated for 600 pounds tongue weight. With it disconnected you can see it has a kickstand.

I like that you don't have to set it completely on the ground. So instead of reaching all the way down here to grab the handle every time, it's right here, ready to go. Take a closer look at the tires. You can see that they are all terrain. They got plenty of grip on there. That works really well in the parking lot today. I also like that here's the valve, so you can air 'em up when you need to. Definitely check those before you go to pull any trailers just to make sure they're aired up and ready to go. The whole dolly's gonna be made outta black powder coat steel so you don't have to worry about rust or corrosion, even has rubberized grips here, which helps you grab onto this when you need to pull it or push it into place. Overall, I did like this trailer dolly. It worked way better than the ones I've used before. Just having the real wheels with the rubber on the outside got more grip. The longer handle with the grips here at the end made it easy to maneuver the trailer in to place where I needed to go. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out and hope this helped.

Good trailer dolly for level surface. Does not work on uneven terrain. Would need high post for the ball.

The MaxxTow Trailer Dolly with 1-7/8" Hitch Ball - Black Powder Coated Steel - 600 lbs does a wonderful job. Before I purchased it, I was concerned that having the hitch ball above a single axle would yield a situation where it was unstable (as indeed it would be if you lifted the handle significantly and then let go). In usage, however, I observed no such instability. It is well engineered such that one can pull the trailer and then lower the handle and it will remain in a safe position. The materials are quite strong enough for the job; I observed no straining or bending of the ball supports nor axle.

The pictures show it attached to our partially loaded utility trailer. The trailer is 1200 - 1500 lb and the motor generator inside is 1200 lb. The dolly allows me to move the trailer inside our building without running an internal combustion engine and fouling the air. On the road, with the utility trailer as a second towed vehicle, it will allow disconnecting the utility trailer from the first trailer and moving it out of the way to allow backing the first trailer.

After a year and some use, it still works well.

I shopped around for a higher quality product and I think this is it. Quick shipping. Packaged well, with all the needed hardware. Arrived without a scratch. Easy to assemble. Feels solid and rolls easily on the 12" pneumatic tires. I,m pretty sure I'm going to wonder why I didn't buy one sooner. Thanks Etrailer!

This dolly makes it very easy to move my teardrop into its parking spot. This has been a game changer for me.

MaxxHaul: Model 70225; Serial FS1903009654
This
review is based on two events. First, the assembly,
and second, the application.
ASSEMBLY:
The best feature of this implement is the instruction
manual / parts catalog © 2012 edition. This document lists
instructions on how to assemble, and in what order, as
well as tabulating a set of specifications on one page while
devoting an entire other page to a parts blowup with
reference numbers and quantities.
After reading this document and looking at the stuff that
came in the box, it took roughly a half-hour to get wheelsup and ready to rock.
The one slight improvement I would suggest is for
prospective end-users to obtain sixteen (16) Grade-8,
Metric size 10 or SAE size ½ inch flatwashers and put
them under the bolt heads because the elongated bolt
holes in the chassis can sure use a friend.
ASSEMBLY RATING Four (4) stars.
APPLICATION:
It was necessary to use the swing-down trailer jack to get
the dollie under the hitch receiver on the splitter tongue.
My error was to not immediately chock the two load tires
and the two dollie tires. When attempting to snap closed
the ball lock, with the trailer and dollie un-chocked, the
effect was to snap the dollie trailer ball out of the hitch
receiver and then, just like a trebuchet, wing the tow arm
right over the hitch, dropping the hitch to flat on the ground
and narrowly missing my noggin.
It was that fast.
In order to recover the trailer it was necessary to employ
the shop scissor jack under the frame and lift the tow bar
to where the swing-down adjustable trailer jack could be
re-deployed and the tow bar raised once again to where
the 1-7/8” ball could slide in under the receiver.
However, the triangular support iron under the dollie’s
handle, when seated on the ground, put the trailer ball and
supporting iron at an acute angle. This is what jammed up
the ball lock before. The remedy was to raise and support
the triangle with four inches of blocking that would afford
the dollie frame to be perpendicular to the receiver, and
that way the ball lock would operate correctly.
Please note that when the ball was correctly seated and
the trailer ball lock engaged, the dollie no longer would
pop out of connection. The four chocks on the dollie
wheels, plus the four chocks on the lot splitter wheels
could then be removed and the rig manhandled over to the
woodpile.
It was necessary to pull out an old stakebody wooden
utility trailer to set up next to the splitter. The trailer looks
like it weighs little, but the frame is welded pieces of pipe.
Once again I went and hooked things up without chocking
all four wheels and the trailer dollie once again popped out
and swung over, narrowly missing my noggin once again.
Application Rating Four (4) stars.
There’s no way for MaxxHaul to anticipate every app, and
it behooves the end user to equip his dollie plant with all
the correct PPE as the Real Step One.
Photo 1: The receiver needs to be raised.
Photo 2: The dollie handle seen right after
popping over the hitch.
Photo 3: The extra equipment needed to safely
get my trailer dollie connected.

I have a 16 foot enclosed trailer that is approximately 6 ft wide. I have customized it with diamond plate and there's a whole bunch of stuff in it. I was going to purchase a $580 geared trailer Dolly because I was afraid that I would need assistance moving my trailer. I went with this product, and guess what it really works. I don't know what people are complaining about, there is only about 4 nuts and bolts that are required to put this thing together not including the ball which easily attaches. I literally had this thing together in less than 10 minutes. I did everything hand tight then I took two sockets to tighten on each side of the nut and bolt. I used the trailer dolly for the first time tonight after inflating the tires. I used my Harbor Freight air compressor I put in between 38 and 40 lb on each tire. I was able to easily move the trailer which was quite shocking to be frank, Plus I was able to easily maneuver the trailer as well. I live in a manufactured home park so I am parking my trailer which is about 8 feet high on my carport. I have a three-car carport and putting my trailer on the carport in the first position saved me about $100 per month in storage fees. I will have to move my trailer each time I want to use it with my RV to go on an RV trip with my motorcycle. This trailer dolly is without a doubt without equal as far as cost benefit. Now I do have an inclined portion of my carport from the street in the manufactured home park. I did need my wife to push of the back of the trailer because my trailer is very heavy to get it onto my carport. Once it got to the level area I was easily able to move the trailer on my own. I do caution you that if there's going to be an incline you are probably going to want somebody behind you pushing the trailer if it's as heavy as mine. I am very happy with my purchase and I highly suggest that you get one yourself. My trailer does have a 2in hitch so I am going to be putting a 2-inch ball on my trailer dolly just to ensure that it is locked in. With the one and 7/8 ball with a 2-inch hitch it does come out even with the latch down. Balls are very cheap at other stores

by:

Inexpensive Trailer Dolly that allows me to easily adjust my pop up trailer inside my small, two car garage. It beats back breaking lifting and adjusting to position the trailer in a tight space. I wondered if the included 1 and 7/8 inch ball would work with my 2” ball hitch but there wasn’t an issue. An exact fit isn’t needed since you’re just making adjustments and not speeding down the highway at 70mph (but easy to swap out to a 2” ball if needed).

by:

Nice product; I can now move my 500 lb trailer up and down my sloped driveway and into my garage without (too) much effort. The large diameter wheels help reduce effort but unfortunately the tires can rub against the trailer hitch when making a very tight turn which can cause issues in tight quarters.

by:

Does the job. This is very well built. I was able to move this 600 lb. camper in and out of my shed. Easier to maneuver than with a small tractor in the tight space. The only thing I could want more out of this dolly is to have a park break. Having a slight slope I needed to put stop blocks inside the shed before moving the trailer in. I'd suggest having a second person help if you have any slope to your parking area. Glad I bought this.

by:

Had to weld a higher extension on the ball with a brace to make the perfect height for my truck hitch . But it work out great

by:

WOW! Why didn't I get this trailer dolly years ago! It is great, well made and my wife had no problem putting it together in a half hour. Moving the trailer around the yard is an easy task now! Thank you!

by:

I researched a trailer dolly from several websites including Amazon and this one was the best overall in price and dimensions! I really like the larger 12" tires. Shipping was fast and the overall experience was perfect!

by:

Quick delivery on my order. The dolly seems sturdy for the type of use that it’s designed for and seems to have a very durable finish.
You can assemble it in 15 minutes if you’re handy and use to working with trailers or other equipment.
I would rate it as a good buy at a comparable price.

I ordered the pictured trailer dolly as I was looking for a method to move my personal watercraft trailer. My driveway is sloped and the storage pad where the trailer is kept is adjacent to my home and gated. The entry through the gate is rather narrow and to back the trailer into the storage pad is difficult. Looking to maneuver the trailer easily was my goal and I had considered several powered trailer dollies but their cost is prohibitive. I came upon the manual dolly on [online] and ordered it finding it's cost reasonable and its features seemingly filling the bill. It arrived ahead of schedule and my wife and I assembled it in about half and hour. We found that it's height was within about half an inch of my truck's trailer hitch height, which was perfect. It maneuvers the trailer precisely and easily, allowing me to back it close to its storage area and then push it into position with little effort. Everything about the whole transaction was simple straightforward and exactly as I expected. Further, I've found a resource in etrailer.com that I will use often for my trailering needs.

Very well!! I eventually purchased a electrically powered trailer dolly as I had also acquired an 18 foot car hauler trailer which is a bit too heavy to move with The Maxxtow dolly, though small movements can be made. The Maxxtow dolly is still used to position and move my other jet ski trailer after the larger car hauler is located. All in all, a very convenient accessory to my collection of wheeled conveyances.

by:

Great tool for a novice tow guy. Got tired of having trouble backing my cargo trailer under the carport at our old apartment. The braces for the carport, and the narrow street forced my vehicle onto the sidewalk every time. This dolly made it very easy to pull the trailer in and out of that small space, even when fully loaded. Now in a house, I can safely back my trailer into the garage without worrying about clearance. No need to start my car just to pull the trailer out and get to my tools. I only wish it had a small brake. But just tilt the dolly to drop the trailer foot down, and that works fine.

Still use it regularly. Somehow Ive of the tires acquired a hole, and I had to replace it. Other than that it still allows me to move my cargo trailer around easily. I even backed it into the grass relatively easy.

by:

Very well built, Took about 30 min to assemble, package was very strong, all parts included.

by:

I use this to move a trailer and 2 boats around in my barn. It is good for re-positioning your trailer in tight spaces. I am rolling on crushed granite, so it takes 2 to move the 19ft power boat. The 8ft cargo trailer and 15 ft sailing dingy I can handle on my own. I had a cheaper Harbor Freight version of this, and upgraded to this one for the larger wheels, which keep it rolling better. It is also much better quality.

9/30/2017

Good

by:

Bought this to move my 14 ft travel trailer around in my garage and it works great. I had to change the ball to match my hitch but that is no big deal. It makes it easy to move the trailer around as my garage has very limited side clearance around the trailer. Very pleased with the product and have recommended it to several of my neighbors who also own small trailers. It is great for maneuvering boat trailers also.

Bob M.

4/24/2021

The dolly is still working great-it makes it easy to move the trailer into my storage building without hitting the sides.Great product.

by:

Quality of dolly is excellent but assembly instructions are below average, particularly in the description of the hardware used. Fortunately the assembly was rather simple. I use the MaxxTow Trailer Dolly to move a 6x10 utility trailer in and out of a gravel covered parking area. GVW is 3200 lbs and tongue weight is about 400 lbs. The dolly works well for me and makes the maneuvering of my utility trailer quite easy.

Bob D.

1/9/2016

Still going strong. The dolly is remarkably unaffected by the sun and rain here in Arizona.

by:

I'm able to turn my popup 180 degrees by myself. My driveway is off an alley, so backing in isn't an option. I drive in as if parking in the garage, unhook and turn the trailer around and out of the way. The only problem I've had is when the dolly is 90 degrees to the trailer the dolly wheel contacts the front jack and won't move unless I back off. Not a fault of the dolly, I'm just working in a very tight space.

Jim T.

6/27/2020

Continues to work as expected. The tires need air periodically. Well worth having.

by:

Went together easily and works great even on the gravel, dirt and grass where my boat trailer is stored. Good price for a good product.
Recommend the following changes to the instructions: 1) Tools needed. 2) Recommended tire pressure. 3) Put the ball on last instead of first. 4) Don't over-tighten the bolts on the handle to avoid crushing the tube.
Otherwise, the instructions were not too bad and the dolly was assembled quickly.

Rich D.

Still great!

I have been buying trailer and rack parts from etrailer for over 10 years and have gotten nothing but quality products and great customer service. This time was no different. I was going to buy the Harbor Freight brand dolly, but when I saw it at the store it did not appear to be very heavy duty and the quality was lacking. At Etrailer Tow-Maxx Dolly had good ratings and the biggest tires. I was a little concerned the Tow-Maxx Dolly was going to be of poor quality like the one at Harbor Freight, because it was the same price but it turned out the Tow-Maxx dolly quality was excellent and sturdy. Why 4 out 5 stars: The instructions and assembly illustration sucked. Open and assemble the dolly outside, the toxic chinese rubber smell is horrible. Wash hands after assembly. FYI all of the dollys etrailer sells are made in China.

You apparently use this to move your pop up camper around at home? Mine weighs 2500 and I am tired of pushing it around the driveway without a dolly. Do you recommend this one? Some of the other reviews scare me a bit about the quality and materials.

by:

Trailer dolly MT70225 arrived a day late due to the adverse weather conditions in Nashville, TN. No problem. Packaging carton by Etrailer and the packaging by Maxxtow was outstanding.
The only complaint I had was that the Parts List on page 5 of the Instruction Manual & Parts Catalog did not agree with hardware that was received. It appears Maxxtow has updated the type of hard-ware provided and has not updated the parts list. I at first thought parts were short. That could be confusing to some people. Cosmetic only. If they update assembly diagram and parts list they need to also update the instructions in Page 4, paragraphs 1 thru 7.

I have used it to move my two-wheeled car dolly around the yard and moving car dolly to rear of motor home. We take it with us when we camp to move the car dolly away from motor home for storage while we camp. Im 74 years old and it does the trick.Im happy with unit.

by:

This is exactly what I was expecting. It took less than 1/2 hour to assemble. I move a trailer to and from the back yard on a weekly basis. The MaxxTow trailer dolly makes it so mush easier than trying to move it by hand. It's also is easy to maneuver trailers in tight places. Glad I purchased this.

  • Can I Pull a Trailer w/ a 2" Coupler w/ the Flint Hill Goods Trailer Dolly?
Yes, it will! The Flint Hill Goods Trailer Dolly item # FHG24ZR will work just fine with your 2" coupler even though it has a 1-7/8" hitch ball. Due to how slow you would be moving and how light dollies are it's not important for the latch of the coupler to secure to it. You could swap out the hitch ball but you really don't need to.

  • Does it Make Sense to Install 2 inch Ball on Flint Hill Goods Dolly
If you really wanted to you could remove the 1-7/8 inch ball of the Flint Hill Goods Trailer Dolly part # FHG24ZR and install a different ball size...BUT it won't gain you anything by doing so and would only prevent you from using it with a trailer that has a coupler size of 1-7/8 inch so I would not recommend it.
