Video Transcript for etrailer Trailer Hitch Reciever Coupler Lockset Alignment Collar and Bag Review

What's up, everybody It's AJ, with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out the etrailer coupler lock and hitch receiver kit. So you're gonna get this bag that comes with it, great for storing all those items and what comes in the kit, let me unzip it. Plenty of room to add more stuff in here if you want more ratchet straps or anything else you have in the back of your vehicle that you might need for towing reasons. But we have the lock for your hitch receiver, and we have the lock for your latch on your coupler, so you can lock both of those up. And then also, the etrailer hitch alignment tool, so this is gonna be good for your ball mount, you'll put that on there, tighten it up, that way you're gonna line up that hitch pin hole on the first try every single time.

All these arms are really gonna help keep everything locked up, and help you not worry about anybody messing with it when you're not around, let's check it out. First part of the kit we're gonna look at is the hitch alignment tool. So this is gonna go onto the shank of your ball mount, I've already loosened it, you just do it by hand with these knobs. You slide that on there, get that into place, then we'll put our ball mount in our hitch. And what you wanna do is line up your hitch pin hole right there.

That seems to be lined up, and how we're gonna double-check that, I'm gonna take the pin and slide it through. So you see how now that's lined up, I did have to look to do that, well this is going to eliminate that, so we're gonna slide our collar up, tie it down on both ends. I just do a little bit on each side that way, one side is not all the way done before the other, I'm gonna do it evenly. Now that's in place, I can pull that pin, remove the ball mount, so now when I go to set it up, let's say just pull it right out of the bag, set this up, line up, I didn't have to look. You see the hitch alignment hit the front of the hitch, and then without even looking at the side this then goes right through.

So that's what it does, it's lines that up on the first and it's gonna make set up far easier. Something that I wanted to point out is this is coming with your ball mount kit and works really well. We use it around here all the time but it's not just limited to ball mounts, so if you have like a bike rack or a cargo carrier, I highly suggest getting one of these separate, the hitch alignment tool, and put it on those because it's gonna apply the same way as it does this ball mount. You won't ever have to look to the side and make sure that's lined up again, to get the pin through there, 'cause you know, cargo carriers stick out quite a bit more so you're gonna have to kind of lean over, or a bit in between and check. Bike racks can be in the same way, kinda cumbersome, you have to kind of look around them.

So much easier to having this on there, just let it hit that hitch, you know that's it's lined up, you can just pop the pin in. Next thing we're gonna take a look at in the kit is our locking hitch pin. It's got a barrel cylinder lock on this side that actually threads in. So, just to show you how that works is you don't just push it on there and it locks into place. When you push it in there, make sure it finds its seating, and then you started turning the key. And as you turn the key, you'll see how it threads on there, you're actually threading the lock. So now it's on there real nice and tight, and it's gonna be hard to mess with that, You're not gonna be, it's not gonna be easy to try and pick that lock, so this is like one of the better locks you can get out there for that, for theft deterrent. So we'll see how it actually works on here, slide through the hole. Same thing with the barrel lock, and again, it's good to kind of rotate that just to make sure it sits in there so that when you start turning the key, it's gonna start threading. And I can already feel it threading now, so, just keep turning that key and you can see how the barrel comes closer here because it's threading on, and then the key is gonna stop and you know you're done. So then I can just bring it back a little bit, remove that key, put dust cap on there, that way it's not exposed to the elements either. So that's on there nice and tight, there's not a lot of room in between there, but it's just gonna keep anybody from messing with us. They'll take a look at it and see the lock, and just go to the next one that doesn't have a lock. Something else I wanna to point out about our locking hitch pin is this rubber grip on this side. I think it's really handy to have that way, no matter what the elements you're in, you have this grip to grab onto, especially when you're rotating this. So you can even pop the cap off there, put one of our two keys in the lock, and let me show you. So you don't necessarily have to rotate on this end with the key, you can see how that's a little cumbersome. We actually just use this part and rotate while you're holding the key. So actually the grip is what you're rotating and that's loosening, or tightening the lock, whichever way you're going. It makes it way easier, and it works really well. Something else is that these in this kit are made for two inch hitches, that's the hitch pin lock and you hit your alignment tool, but if you like these and you have a different size hitch, or a different ball mount, you can get these in different sizes as well. So make sure you check our website for a different size locking hitch pin, or different size hitch pin aligner. Our next part of the kit is gonna be the coupler latch lock, they're go on there much the same as our locking hitch pin. As just put it on there, same thing, It's got that rotation. So you can use the grip, rotate with the key in there, and get that nice and tight. And this is gonna be good if you park your trailer at a parking spot or something and leave it on unattended, people can't undo that latch, so they can't mess with it at all. I really like this and it's an added security, if you're locking everything else up, you might as well have this too. It's got the same barrel lock inside I really like and something else that's nice is it's keyed alike. So these two keys are gonna work with this lock and the locking hitch pin. So you don't have to have like four keys on your key ring, it's nice to have these operate the two locks that you get. This is gonna work with trigger-style coupler latches, and it's gonna have a quarter inch diameter there for the hole in the middle. So if you we're thinking about your latch, make sure you look at that and make sure you get those measures to make sure this is gonna fit through there. And then it's gonna be a half an inch of space in the middle there, so just keep that in mind when you're looking at your trailer coupler. The last part of the kit, it's gonna be the bag that it comes with. I like that it's big enough to actually hold all the stuff in the kit, so we can fit the locks in there, even throw the keys, our ball mount fits in there just fine with room to spare. So even if you had some straps or something, maybe some ratchet straps you want to throw in, throw around that stuff. You can see, plenty of room for other stuff, the bag can hold up to 30 pounds, so you don't to worry about throwing that ball mount in there and the bag is gonna be able to last. It feels nice and tough, the material doesn't feel like it's going to rip or anything with all that stuff in there. So, I really liked that it has that bag because otherwise you just have all this loose stuff kinda floating around in your backseat, or behind your truck bed, seat, or something like that, or even in the back of your truck. This one, you can keep it all nice and together and zipped up, just keeping everything nice and neat inside the vehicle. Overall, I think it's a really handy thing to have. I like that it has the bag to carry everything in the kit with it, and it's just gonna make life overall easier. From making sure you hit that hitch pin hole the first try every time, or just making sure your stuff's locked up, that way you don't have to worry about it when you drop it off. So leaving the boat trailer there with the latch, that's all locked up, you don't have to worry about anybody messing with that. Leave the ball mount on your vehicle, you don't have to worry about anybody messing with that, everything's all nice and secure. Well, I think that does it, thanks for hanging out, and I hope this helps..

Good quality, the product is as expected. New to the towing scene, so ordered everything I needed from etrailer; along with the actual hitch and wiring harness, I got this with an extra coupler lock and paid extra for the key-alike. First received an empty bag for the receiver/hitch set; called and got customer service who were helpful and quick, didn’t really get any kick back but kind of got the feeling she didn’t believe I got an empty bag. Regardless she sent the missing stuff out and asked for the code on this product’s keys to ensure they were still keyed alike. Received the missing stuff in timely fashion, but they’re not keyed alike, so I have to keep up with both sets of keys. I’m sure I could get it taken care of but I just don’t want to spend the time calling customer service again and dealing with it. I’ll just keep the keys with the locks in the spare tire compartment until I need them, so it’s not that big a deal. Contents and the bag itself it is a good quality and perfect for me just starting out; would probably buy again but I wouldn’t count on the key alike if buying an additional lock.

  • Lock Kit Part Number From etrailer Towing Accessories Kit
To get just the locks out of the etrailer Towing Accessories Kit # e99039-9 you just need the part # e99039. This includes both of the locks from the kit but nothing else.

  • Is etrailer e99039-9 Hitch and Coupler Lockset Available for a Class V 2-1/2 Inch Hitch
Unfortunately, we don't offer a kit like the # e99039-9 for a 2-1/2 inch class V receiver. This being said, you can get the same coupler lock, part # e98884, coupler lock # e98881 for a 2-1/2 inch hitch and the # e98900 storage bag separately. For the locks, just choose the 'keyed alike option' from the drop down menu.. We don't offer the alignment collar in a class V compatible version yet.

  • Recommended Parts Needed To Tow a Trailer with a 2018 Subaru Forester
Yes, the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98839 is a great option for a 2018 Subaru Forester and a direct fit. It can then be used with the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56040 to activate the trailer lights. I'd then recommend using the etrailer Ball Mount Kit part # 989900 to complete your setup. This would be all that is required though you could add the etrailer Trailer Hitch Reciever and Coupler Lockset, Alignment Collar, and Bag part # e99039-9 for locks as well.

  • Additional Parts Recommendation to Trailer Hitch, Wiring, and Ball Mount for Towing a Trailer
The trailer hitch, wring, and ball mount are the main parts needed for towing a trailer so you're pretty much set unless the trailer is on the heavier end - then you'll need a brake controller and weight distribution hitch as well. Let me know if this is the case and I'll be happy to help you figure out the best parts for your setup! Aside from that we do have the etrailer Bag Kit # e99039-9 which isn't a necessity, but it does include some locks, an alignment collar, and a storage bag...
