Today we're going to be taking a look at the Fastway universal coupler lock. The universal design is going to protect most trailers from being towed away. It's designed to provide maximum security for your unattended trailer. It's going to protect it from theft. It's going to use a multi step uni ball that's going to fit into any size ball coupler. Now, this piece is a solid construction.
It's not hollow like similar designs and models. The shackle has a really nice unique bend. This is a reversible design that allows it to snug up tight to most type of couplers, or coupler latches, including all the ones that you see here on the table, such as A frame, straight channel, round tunnel, flat plate, and search type couplers. It's also going to accommodate a variety of latching mechanisms, such as trigger, pin, thumb, and wrap around yoke latches. It works great on all the ones that you see here on the table. Really nice universal design that's going to provide maximum security to your unattended trailer.
The unit features a tube key lock cylinder that provides better security than standard key mechanisms. It's a lot harder to pick, and it's more difficult to duplicate keys. It's also going to feature an anti-drill pin that discourages attempts to drill out the lock. The unit's also going to feature bolt blocked locking system to prevent thieves from prying the lock open. Inside this hole right there, there's going to be a small bolt that engages the shackle.
Right now it would be in the unlocked position. You can see how that comes out just a little bit. It doesn't take much to secure the unit. That bolt that runs through there engages the grooves on the shackle to keep it from being pried off of the trailer coupler. Now, when it comes to the construction, we're looking at a hardened steel construction when it comes to the shackle. It's going to provide maximum cut resistance.
Chrome plated finish does a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. Then, we're looking at a solid die cast corrosion resistant housing, that's very strong, and very durable. Two keys are included per lock. They are numbered, so the keys are going to be unique to the universal lock that you choose. This is going to fit one and seven-eighth inch, two inch, and two and five sixteenth inch ball couplers. You just need to make sure the coupler width does not exceed four and a half inches. The shackle diameter is five eighth of an inch. The units going to be covered with a limited lifetime warranty. I just want to show you how it installs, and how easy it is to use. What you'll need to do is separate the two components, so just move it to the unlocked position. It also has a nice dust cap that protects that lock opening. It's going to do a great job at keeping out dirt and moisture. When you're ready to use it, all you need to do is make sure that the coupler is in the open position. The ball portion goes in there. Then, all you got to do is secure it, just as if you're hooking up to your hitch ball. Then, install the shackle. You need to determine which ways going to work best for your application. For this one, I just want to make sure the point is pointing back towards the trailer. It is a universal design, that way you can adjust it however you need to use the lock to fit your application the best. Then we just move it to an unlocked position, allow that shackle to go down as far as possible. Move the key to the locked position, and it removes to the core. Place on the dust cap, and that's on there. The only way to get it off is to use one of the two keys to unlock the unit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Fastway universal coupler lock.

This coupler lock works well. Easy to use but it is helpful, as with all key type locks, to use some spray lube on it. Didn't do that with a past one and the key got stuck ion the keyway and broke off. That bar is tough to cut through.
I’ve had this tongue lock for about a year. I’ve been well pleased with its operation. The locking mechanism is solidly built and easy to install. It would take some effort to remove without the key. I’ve noticed no rust or corrosion and the keyway works smoothly. I’m well pleased. Great value at a great price.

Seems sturdy. Unfortunately Fastway is one of those companies that thinks it is necessary to collect marketing information for you to complete warranty registration. Minus 1 star for that.

This is one serious coupler lock. If anybody manages to steal my boat they will have earned it.
Ball not as big as it should be and had to shim it. Tricky to get it tight enough to stay on my trailer hitch. Very heavy duty and seems to do the job.

We’ve been using this coupler lock on our little camper for about a year. It’s easy to use, and we can rest a bit easier knowing our camper is protected.
I bought several of these, keyed alike and have found them useful. The keyed alike feature is a winner. One key on every set of vehicle keys and I can access any of the rigs at will. The product itself can be a bit tricky to align, and on a steel hitch it will take some of the paint off eventually. Better than getting stolen I'd say. I've used it on 2 inch, 2&5/16 50mm and 1&7/8 couplers. The best fit is on the hitch I show a picture of, though in this case the lock is probably worth more than the trailer. . .
I was a little disappointed in the lock. The shackle is very robust and I'm sure very strong but the body of the lock, I'm not so sure. It feels very light weight. It is not magnetic so it's not steel. It appears to be cast aluminum or diecast. It seems like one good wack with a hammer would break it but maybe not, maybe it's stronger than I think. It does fit very nice and tight on my coupler and the only way a thief would get it off would be to
break it or cut it. I would buy it again if I needed one for another trailer.

Locks seem heavy duty. I tried them on 4 different types of locks and found no issues with them locking. I purchased these for our whole fleet of trailers so time will tell how the hold up.
