recovering a trapped vehicle

Owning a recovery strap is an absolute must in the event your vehicle ever becomes stuck in difficult terrain and cannot gain enough traction to escape. The strap is specifically designed to stretch under tension before snapping back to its original length. The recoil helps pull the trapped vehicle out of its stuck position. The nylon-reinforced ends of this strap add extra durability and resist fraying.

tow strap hooked to stuck atv shacklerecovery strap attached to recovering vehicle

A shackle or tow hook (sold separately) provides a simple and convenient point to attach the recovery strap and speeds the recovery process significantly. The loops on either end of the strap easily slip over the shackle or hook. If there isn't an attachment point on the stuck vehicle, the vehicle's handbook should specify a safe point where you can secure the recovery strap. Simply wrap the webbing around the vehicle's frame, and then thread one loop end through the loop on the other end of the strap. Once the strap is secure, slowly move the recovery vehicle away from the stuck vehicle. The strap will stretch and then snap back, tugging the trapped vehicle out of its jam.

My last tow rope snapped so I bought this. I had used it many times and probably gonna need to again. Everyone should have one of these, especially the truck drivers that are always being asked to pull someone out of the snow. It's got the 18,000 lb limit so I'm sure that it'll work fine when the time comes. Best price for that kind of poundage I could find.

During winter, I got the chance to use the strap a handful of times and I had no problems with it. I dont see any tearing or wear on it so I have no complaints whatsoever. I would recommend to anyone and buy one again myself if need be.

Everything was great accept for the package that package that the strap came in. Looks as though someone when they opened the case hit the package with a box knife and cut the plastic. Not a big deal cause I used duct tape and repaired it. Looks to be made very well and should withstand anything you would want to use it for!!!

I have used it several times and it still works great!

by:

This strap comes with it's own storage case which will keep it clean and makes packing it in your vehicle a snap. I plan on keeping one in my truck and another in my ATV. Another quality product from etrailer!

Easy to store and very strong to pull stuck equipment, ATVs and vehicles out of undesirable locations

I live in California. Guess what-no snow! Doesn't look like I'll be using tire chains or recovery strap this year. I will say that I'm very happy with etrailer's service and prompt delivery. The chains come in a nice carrying case that fits underneath the rear seat cushion of my 2017 Ram 1500 Crew Cab. The recovery strap fits inside floor compartment. Easy access if I ever do need them.

by:

The smoke vent covers make my black trailer look much more complete compared to the white ones it came with.
The heavy duty coupler lock is a pretty quality piece, and the recovery strap looks and feels quality. Haven't used it yet but all the webbing and stitches are of very good quality.

by:

I used mine two or three times in rough country and woods,
Strap was fraying after 1st use.
To be fair, it held, but I was surprised it was coming apart.
Used it two more times, then tossed it.
For my needs it was not acceptable.
As emergency one time strap, it will work.
I would not buy again.

by:

I ordered the Erickson Tow Strap, MaxxTow tow strap loop, and the pin and clip to carry in my new to me 4Runner in case I need to assist or need assistance while off road wheeling.
Delivery was quick and packaging was good.
If I ever need to use these items I'll post my feedback.

Erickson Recovery straps are among the best out there. That's why we chose them to send over to Haiti for use by our missionaries on the ground. etrailer.com did a great job of getting this order fulfilled and to our door quickly. THANKS!

by:

Have not used it yet, but seems to be of great quality.

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NEVER USED A NYLON TOW STRAP GET ONE AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THE FIRST TIME YOU USE A NYLON TOW STRAP

by:

Great product .. excellent strength .. well made and reinforced properly .. worth the price for peace of mind

Price lower than local stores, ships fast .. been with E-Trailer for years

by:

Very nice, heavy-duty and well priced. Strong enough for a full-size Suburban to get it out of the mud.... Nifty storage bag, too.

by:

Tow strap is great keeps me wheeling

by:

Strap is as described. Fast shipping and good follow up from etrailer. com.

by:

I have not had to use it yet

by:

Good price and very well made. Also, incredible service from the etrailer staff! I will definitely purchase from you again!

by:

Carried as an emergency piece of equipment in my truck, but hope to never need to use it....LOL

by:

This sing has plenty of strength, at 18,000lb test. it has plenty of length, at 20', to rig around odd shaped objects. The first thing I used it for was pulling stumps on the farm. It worked As Advertised and I regard the sell price as very reasonable for a tool that will last for decades and, in my case, be used quite often.

by:

I have been hanginging on to old knotted straps for years. When I saw the price and quality of these straps I knew it was time for a switch.

by:

Seems like a very well made product, I haven't had to do it yet, but am sure from the quality of this item that I will not have a problem with it when the need arises.

by:

Great strong product. I don't think I would use it for moving anything more than 3 or 4,000 lbs. 1/4 of the weight rating is max. Keep away from sharp objects!

by:

I have seen these in action, so decided that I needed them in my trucks, too. A lot lighter than chain and invaluable when you need it!

by:

Good price and appears to be constructed well. Haven't had the opportunity to try it out on any of the Fords stuck out in the woods yet to give it a complete review, but I'm sure it won't be long...

by:

One year later no problems noted, This gift was well received last Christmas.

by:

Last month I got my truck stuck and did not have a chain. Fortunately the next truck coming by did. I thought about getting a chain to keep in my truck, but this is much better. Lighter & more compact. I bought 5. 1 for myself and 4 for gifts.

  • Can a Tow Strap be Used to Tow Scrap Cars
Technically, the only way to properly tow one vehicle behind another is to use a whole flat towing set up which would include base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. For your situation this would not be financially feasible since you would need a different set of base plates for every vehicle. Tow straps may or may not be legal in your area for vehicle transport so you would want to check the local and state laws. Tow strap # EM79201 is rated for 4,000...

I pulled a sample of the Erickson Recovery Tow Strap # EM59500 from our warehouse so I could take the measurement of the loop ends that you require. Each nylon-reinforced loop end measures approximately 7-inches in diameter. The yellow reinforced strip measures 7-1/2-inches long x 2-1/4-inches wide.

  • Recommended Tow Hook to Use with Erickson Recovery Strap # EM59500
The Erickson Recovery Strap w/ Reinforced Loop Ends # EM59500 referenced in your question is an extremely durable recovery strap with a maximum vehicle weight capacity of 9,000 pounds and a maximum load (break strength) of 18,000 pounds. It works very well with a hook like the Erickson Bolt-On Tow Hook with Keeper # EM59505. This bolt on hook can be used for a variety of industrial or recreational purposes and has a weight capacity of 10,000 pounds. I have attached a couple short video...

  • How to Determine if the Black Bolt-On Tow Hook 10,000 lbs Will Fit on a 1998 Chevy Suburban
The Erickson Bolt-On Tow Hook - Black - 10,000 lbs, item # EM59505, has the same mounting dimensions as the chrome bolt on tow hook, item # EM59503, which I recently measured. The mounting holes are spaced 1-3/8 inches apart on center. I took a photo of the tow hook and added the measurement for you to see. You will have to measure the spot on your frame that you intend to mount the tow hooks and see if there are existing holes or if there is enough room to drill 1/2 inch holes. You may...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Tow Loop and Tow Strap Recommendations for a 2012 Toyota Tacoma
From what I could find, the 2012 Toyota Tacoma can tow up to 6,500 pounds when properly equipped. Consult your vehicle owners manual to determine the capacity of your truck. I would go with the 8K capacity # TR63046. It fits in a 2 inch receiver opening. For a strap I would go with something that has a higher capacity than the truck and the tow loop. Take a look at tow strap # EM59500. It has a break strength of 18K and a max vehicle weight of 9K. It is 2 inches wide and 20 feet long.

  • Will the Erickson Bolt-On Tow Hook, # EM59503, Fit on a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado
The Erickson Bolt-On Tow Hook, item # EM59503, is not designed as a custom fit application but it may work on your 2010 Silverado. You will need to measure where the tow hooks attach on the vehicle to see if the mounting holes in the frame are 1-3/8 inches on center apart, and will accept 1/2 inch diameter bolts. A picture showing the mounting hole width is included. If these above dimensions will work on your truck frame, and the orientation of the hook is correct in relation to the holes...
