Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These chains are great for giving you a little extra traction in the snow. But if you live somewhere where you experience heavy snow often, you'll definitely want something more heavy duty than cables. Because these cable chains are lightweight and don't take up a lot of storage space, they are also perfect for keeping in your trunk if you occasionally travel through areas that require you to have chains on hand.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's user manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Cable Chains

Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground.

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Drape chain over tire.

2. Drape the chain over the tire or lay the chain out and drive onto it.

Connect cable behind tire.

3. Reach around to the back of the tire and fasten the rear side cable by running the end with the metal stops through the eye of the hook on the opposite end.

Secure excess cable.

4. Run any excess side cable through the metal clip.

Repeat around front.

5. Repeat this process on the front side of the tire.

Install rubber adjusters

6. Drive forward 1 car length, then check the chain and hand tighten it again if needed.

Rubber adjusters (sold separately) are recommended to help ensure a tight fit. Connect these to the front side of the cable in a star pattern. Make sure the hooks face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Cables fit my Bronco Sasquatch LT 315/70R-17 tires just fine. Clearance appears to be okay. Did use tensioners. No opportunity to use them yet. Great price and fast safe shipping.Website useful and informative.

Chains do not come with lever fastener. Wish I had known that before purchasing. Great quality chains. Great customer service.

This is my 4th pair of tire cables. Never have used any of them, just carry them in case. Maybe I should stop buying different vehicles, lol.

Easy to order from etrailer.com. I received my order three days before the scheduled date. they were easy to install and fit great. I have not used them in the snow yet but I am now ready for my February trip.

2014 Ford F-150 Raptor

Great customer service and quick shipping. Good selection of chains/cables. 5 STARS!!!

by:

Haven't had to use them, but they seem like a decent quality. My tire is 325/65R18, the equivlant 35x12.50R18. It fits these tires mostly fine. My concern is that it might be too short to get the best fit. On mine, I was down to the second-to-last ferrule and it felt already tight. I think it may be better if it had more ferrules and closer distance between them. As the truck rolls along and the tire compresses/expands/contracts, it may snap the cable compared to a chain. I have rubber tensioners and that may compound the issue more. Otherwise, it seems like a decent cable if you need lower clearance.

For those with an F-250 with 20” wheels, you know the pain of figuring out what you can and cannot do, according to Ford’s owners manual, for chains/cables. If you live in a state that requires carrying chains (traction devices), figuring out what will work with the 250/350’s can be confusing. I knew I needed cables for the 20”s but couldn’t find the right ones that fit a 275/65r20, so after a few minutes online, I called the 800 number. Great response, very helpful, knew exactly what I needed and was even able to recommend the tensioners I needed. I was able to order them online within 5 minutes. The shipping on etrailers part was exceptional, not so much for UPS, but they still got to me in a very reasonable time. Overall, I’m super pleased with my etrailer online and on phone experience!

You’re probably wondering about the cables I bought? I dunno, they look great, and the bag they came in was a plus, as it fits under the back seats no problem. The F-250 Fx4 really does not need cables, even with the stock Michelin’s ATX, took it up into the mountains with 2-3” new snow and more falling all day and didn’t experience any issues. But I gotta have them legally, so these are the ones I got and I think they’ll do very well if I ever get stuck.

  • Snow Chains/Cables Recommendation for 315-75-16 Tires
For snow chain cables that are a fit for your 315/75-16 tires, I'd recommend the # TC3031 from Titan Chain. These chains carry a 'Class S' designation and are specifically designed for vehicles with tight clearance between the tire and the wheel well and the inside of the tire and the suspension components. The cables should be installed on the drive wheels of the vehicle and on a 4x4 vehicle, they'd be installed on the rear wheels but you could use them on all 4 wheels if you wish. Adjusters,...

Thanks for reaching out about using the Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains # TC3031 for the LT325/65R18D tires on your 2022 Ram 1500 TRX! Both the Titan Chain RA10 Rubber Tire Chain Adjuster # TCOA2 and the Titan Chain Multi-Arm Rubber Tire Chain Adjuster # TCMA2 are compatible with this application but I personally like the multi-arm adjuster so I recommend the part # TCMA2. I feel like it's a little more straightforward and that it's very easy to see where the opposing arms need to be...

  • Availability of Snow Tire Chains to Fit SUV with 305/35-24 Tire Size
Before buying snow tire chains you will want to check your owners manual or with the car dealer if you can install snow tire chains on your SUV, or if there are any limitations. I would recommend the Titan Cable Snow Tire Chains, part # TC3031. These cable snow chains will meet the SAE Class S (limited clearance) ratings. A SAE Class S snow tire chain means that the minimum sidewall clearance is .59 inches, which is 15 mm. So if a snow chain has an internal clearance of 15 mm or less...

The Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains part # TC3031 are a confirmed fit for 315/70R17 tires and they have a class s rating which means they are designed for vehicles with limited wheel well clearance so they will work great on a 2022 Jeep Wrangler. These cables won't work as well as chains but they will work better than socks and they will allow you to pass through areas where chain are required. Please note, it's recommended to use the Titan Chain Multi-Arm Rubber Tire Chain Adjuster...
