These Titan Chain diamond-pattern chains are great winter weather chains. If you live in an area where you're likely to get periodic snow and ice, these chains are perfect because they're durable and easy to mount. And they're lightweight and compact, so they store in your vehicle nicely too.

These chains are among the easiest and fastest to install because they have built-in tensioners that you can just pull taut to adjust the fit. These tensioners allow the chains to fit your tires, no matter the profile or wear pattern. And because the tensioners are built-in, you never have to worry about losing them like you might with other chains on the market.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's user manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Installing these chains is incredibly simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Slide chains behind the tire

2. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.

Make connections behind the tire

3. Connect the ends of the cable, which will sit behind the tire.

Attach green hook to yellow side chains

4. Around front, connect the 2 ends of the yellow side chain using the green hook at the top of the tire.

Feed tensioner through clips

5. At the bottom of the tire, feed the silver tensioning chain through the red channel bracket and pull it taut. Then run the tensioner through as many red clips along the side chain as you can, leaving room to still be able to stretch the hook across the tire.

Recheck tension

6. Attach the hook to the side chain directly across from the last clip you ran the tensioner through. The hook should face away from your tire. Pull your vehicle forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the tension.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

2014 Toyota Camry

I’d give it 5 stars but I’ve only had to use them twice, so I don’t know about their longevity. Work great so far! Easy to install after the first time practice, although not as fun installing them while it’s snowing. Would purchase again. Wish the instructions were laminated instead (since we all know we’ll forget how to install them the next year), but oh well, that’s what google is for I guess. Nice carrying case, makes it easy to stash in my trunk and less likely to tangle.

by:

I've used these for one season now, and they've worked great. I put them on someone's car who didn't know how to drive with chains, and they spun out trying to get up a steep driveway. Sparks flew, but the chains held together with no damage. So they are apparently very durable. Very simple to install, and at an affordable price point. They come in a nice storage bag as well. I would highly recommend this brand.

Ive recommended these to various people who were concerned about driving up steep hills in snow. I explain how easy it is to avoid sliding with these installed especially when on all 4 wheels to prevent fish-tailing. It makes a 2-wheel drive vehicle even better in snow than a 4-wheel drive. And they are so easy to install. Still highly recommended.

Audi

The tire chains for my Audi arrived and they look durable.I have not used the chains yet. This is my 2nd purchase from etrailer and have been happy with the price and quality of products . Quick delivery time.

by:

Luckily, I haven’t had to use them. However, I have put them on several times as well as family members. Easiest chains I’ve ever put on. Good clear instructions and online videos!

Good tight fit especially for my low clearance application.

They’ll leave a mark on asphalt. Lol.

2001 Subaru Outback Wagon

They fit great on my 2001 subaru outback which never leaves the property. We live on a steep drive and needed a safe way to get up and down our gravel drive in the snow and ice. These chains worked great. Now we can drive up and down in a very controlled manner. Very easy to install. Thanks

Thank you for your kind follow up. We are so impressed - in this day and age, we never see such commitment to products from a manufacturer. Thank you for that!! I wish we could add more details for you but we still have NEVER used them!!! The last time we went up to Big Bear, the roads were clear and there was no use for them. They seem to be holding well LOL!!. We are not avid ski folks so we dont get up to the mountains that often and our scheduled trip for this year turned out to be a bust - no snow!

by:
2002 Volkswagen Eurovan

These chains are low profile and provide a stronger and more durable link than cable chains!

by:

this very durable, strong and nobs used in the chain are metal (unlike plastic in other chains). it perfectly fits to my car. I have looked at many chains in [antoher store] but not satisfied with the build, this really beats all of them.

by:

Great product and easy to set up. Directions are straight forward and you don't have to worry about being in the cold for too long. The case has extra capacity for gloves and etc., and hardly takes up any real estate in the trunk. I have yet the need to use them, but I'm confident they will work great! Service was excellent and fast as well.

by:

Excellent service, they shipped quicker than expected! The chains haven't been used yet but look like they'll be great.

Jessica was very helpful selecting which chains to purchase. They fit well, the price was very competitive and arrived quickly. I had to deliver some material to a mountain location and needed to go down a couple of steep inclines. I put chains on all four tires of my truck and one axle on the trailer. I didn't have any slipping or sliding on an icy snow-packed road.

by:

I put these chains on and they lasted less than one slow-driving (under 30mph) mile. Despite proper installation, both of them broke in different ways (seems like multiple weak points). One use and they failed me, in snow, got me deep into a predicament that I had to work quite a bit to get out of. I am worse off than when I started - and I had to pay a lot to be stranded. In my assessment, these chains are garbage and actually quite [not allowed to make "suggestions that may affect safety/warranty]. Contacted etrailer about it, brushed off referring to the 30-day limitation. There is no concern for proper function, likely just the bottomline. Value your money and go elsewhere.

I have a 2018 Suburban Premier with the 22” wheels and 285/45R22 tires. I purchased two sets of these chains (four chains in all) for a trip to Mammoth California at the beginning of March 2023 during a record snow season. I was really glad that I had them as I had them all four wheels for most of a week, taking them off and putting them on at least 5 times. Part of the time I had them on I was pulling a 6x12 UHaul trailer. These chains worked flawlessly and provided a huge amount of extra traction on top of my Michelin Defender LTS M/S tires. I was a bit concerned that using the chains may cause some damage to may alloy wheels, but that did not happen. If you put them on correctly, the wheels don’t get damaged at all. The etrailer videos that show how to put the chains on accurately portray the ease of doing that. Even after a week of pretty constant use, the chains don’t show much wear at all. I would absolutely buy these again.

by:

I'm very happy with my snow chains! The chains are easy to install, the carrying case is great, the instructions are very clear, and George and Carol from etrailer provided great customer service! The chains are well-priced and are comparable to the Grizzlar Diamond tire chains.

by:

For ease of installation, these snow chains are great! The only problem I had was on my right rear, the tensioning chain could not be tightened enough going through the rings the way the instructions showed. I ended up going to the far ring first, then back to the middle, then across the wheel. Only for tensioning (doesn’t pull the chains offsides at all), so I think my solution worked well. Kelsey S. was a wonder to work with! This was my first foray into snow chains, so she guided me through my options, explaining every benefit and need for the ice/snow conditions expected. I put the chains on my 2015 Ram 2500 4x4 long bed relatively quickly considering my inexperience.

by:

These chains were amazing! I was a bit hesitant to go with chains over cables due to the car's manual saying to use cables, but after talking to Bob at etrailer, and watching the install videos, I went with them (on all four tires) and am glad I did! We went up to Yosemite for the New Year, and it snowed the day we drove in. We got through the gate into the park without needing chains, but once inside, the roads started to get covered, and though we have AWD, we don't have snow tires and the chains seemed like the best option. We pulled over and had the chains on all four tires within about 20 minutes. The car ran like a tank through the snow (and later, ice-covered roads) and I'm really happy we went with the chains rather than cables. After putting on the chains, we drove about 100 yards to check and tighten them. They were actually pretty tight - only had to tighten one. They really really came in handy driving through the Yosemite Valley, and the email responses I got from Bob prior to buying these showed me great customer service. The shipping speed was top notch as well, and overall, I'm happy that we went with etrailer to get these chains for our snow-covered trip to Yosemite.

by:

No snow yet but the practice installation went great! So simple my 6 year-old helped make sure I was following the instructions properly. Time will tell if I need them and how they work in the upcoming North Idaho snow plowing season. Fit great on my 275/70R18 tires. I appreciate the carrying case they came with, also!

by:

These chains are Awesome in every way! I live at 7500' on a mesa in W.new mexico, winter is get to town in the morning early while the roads are still frozen. . . otherwise its mud\snow\rock\ice, in a steady uphill climb. . . These chains go on so fast, (like 5min for a set). I use them on a 2001 AWD\4WD Expedition... FRONT end only and while I get some rear end sliding, the fronts just never break loose at all

by:

While the snow chains were easier to use than traditional snow chains, one of the links broke within the first day of use. I was driving less than 20 mph on snowy/icy roads so I don't know what went wrong. It was very frustrating to have the snow chains break almost immediately. As such, I cannot recommend this product.

by:

First, overall I will say I like these chains. I have used cables before as well as cheaper chains and found them more difficult to put on (in the case of the chains) and did not provide as great of traction.

When these chains are on they work great. They're pretty easy to put on and the traction in deep snow and on ice is great.

Unfortunately, one of my chains completely broke apart when I was driving the mountain rode in a bit of ice and slush. I was going about 25 and I had properly secured and tightened them before heading out. I doubled back to pick them up off the road and the metal was completely broken, so there was no salvaging that. I had used them only 4-5 times and dry them off after each use, so I'm pretty disappointed it did not last long at all. I reordered a pair in hopes the last one was a fluke and now have a backup chain in case one breaks again, but will update this after a few more trips with the new chains. Overall, they work great when they work, but the build quality is now in question.

  • Recommended Snow Chains for 2014 Honda Accord
Since there are four different stock tire sizes offered on the 2014 Honda Accord your best starting point is a check of your Accord owner's manual. Auto makers get the final word on use of tire chains on their vehicles and it is a good idea to see what Honda says about using chains on your particular vehicle version and tire size. I reviewed an online manual (for the sedan) and it indicated cable-type chains could be used on the front tires only. For example, for a 205/65-16 tire we offer...

These do not go over the inner shoulder of the tire so they do not require any clearance. Check your owners manual for tire chain restrictions as well. If you don't have tight clearance restrictions and want an economic option the Titan Chains part # TC1550 are a confirmed fit that will work well.

  • Whats the Difference Between Manual and Assisted Snow Chains
The difference between manual and assisted chains is in how they are tensioned. The method of assisted adjustment may vary from snow chain to snow chain, but the reason for these types of chains is the same. Built-in devices - whether cams or integrated pulls - make fitting and securing your tire chains quick and simple. They will not automatically tighten and align like self-tensioning chains, but they are much faster and easier to install than manually adjusted models. Manually adjusted...

  • Recommended Class S Snow Tire Chains for a 2016 BMW 3 Series with 225/45 R18 Size Tires
Tire chains are classified by a letter class to determine how much clearance is required on a vehicle for that particular chain to fit. Since your 2016 BMW 3 Series states, in the owner's manual, to use "fine-link" chains I recommend going with Class S chains, which require the least amount of clearance. I recommend the Titan Chain, part # TC1550, to fit your 225/45 R18 sized tires. These are great chains that don't break the bank and are pretty easy to install. They also don't need...

  • Can A Single Tire Chain Like TC1550 Be Used On All 4 Rear Wheels Of A Dually?
Hey Will that is a really good question. As far as tire chains for your 2015 Ford Transit T350 dually, we cannot recommend using Titan Chain single tire chains # TC1550 in the manner you described. They really are intended for single wheel vehicles only, and we would have major concerns about a drape-over chain fitting on the inner wheel and not becoming entangled. Also, the tensioning arm may have to reach across the center of the wheel, which would not be possible on the inner wheel....
