Hi This is an Excellent Bike Rack, It came in no time, Nicely Plastic Wrapped incase of Rain, The Instructions were an Easy Read. I Installed it on my 2001 Honda CRV which was a Breeze, I do think that People Who are too week to lift a Tire shouldnt attempt this alone Though. When You install it you have one hand to hold the tire and one to Screw in your bolts. It does require Strength and Dexterity, and we who ride Bikes already Have that I would Think. I put My Trek Bike on the Rack it Fits Great ! , and Im Ready to tour the Countryside.

Thanks etrailer.com You Guys Know your Stuff Alan J

Very easy to install, looks great on my jeep. Very strong materials used to make. Looks to last me several years of riding trips. Bonus is that I can also mount it on my pop up tent trailer when I go camping. Very satisfying. Price was decent too. Thank you for prompt delivery. Sincerely, Mr. Mendez

2015 Jeep Wrangler

Second one I've owned -- first was unfortunately lost in a move. Solid product that works well with my Jeep Wrangler. Carrier attaches easily to my spare tire, bikes attach easily to carrier. Have successfully made numerous cross-country with bikes with no issues. Convenient that swing gate opens without bike removal. What more could you ask of a bike carrier?

2003 Toyota RAV4

I bought this to replace the exact same rack I've had for about 7 years. The first Surco OSI Spare Tire Bike Rack became corroded after a time. I live in the northeast and left it on the car all year, so it's life expectancy could have been longer, but it was a "task" to remove it. It's definitely a hardy rack, but in reality it's a pain in the butt to use. It's the nature of the design. Also, it is designed to hold 3 bikes, but not without some cosmetic damage (at the very least) to the bikes. The only reason I bought it again is because it's the only feasible and reasonably priced bike rack for my 2003 Toyota RAV, which I've had for 13 years. I'm not going to replace the car right now, so I didn't have much of a choice. I only gave it 3 stars because I really don't like it, but it is a solid bike rack.

Very easy to install on the spare tire. Sturdy construction and priced 1/3 of the top name brands. Also, non of the top name brands hold three bikes like this does. Extremely satisfied and highly recommend it to anyone.

How is it holding up for you so far? Do you use it much?

by:

A really good and secure design for holding bikes. The only downside to the one I received, is that the screw piece that holds the unit to the receiver doesn't screw in all the way. So when you go to apply the lock, you have to back the threads up slightly to make the lock holes align. this leaves the unit loose and will rock back and forth a bit.

by:
2005 Honda CR-V

The good: solid construction. Easy to mount and remove. Secure mount to vehicle and holds bike securely. Built in lock in the clamping device.

The bad. Difficult to load 3 bikes on. It’s kind of a puzzle to get them all on and not rubbing together. We have a full size men’s, full size woman’s, and a 20” boys bike. All mountain bikes. Would not recommend for high end bikes as it will cause frame scuffing with multiple bikes loaded. Also there is a spot that holds water when it rains. They could have drilled some drainage holes.

by:
1999 Jeep Wrangler

Packaged well arrived on time simple instructions however I suggest adding a threaded washer to hold the mounting plate to the tire carrier so there would be no movement of it while trying to replace the spare tire.

This is the second bike rack I bought, the first from another vendor and it broke (bent) the very first time out! This one is built like a Sherman Tank - exactly what I wanted!!!

by:

It fits great on my 2005 Honda CR-V. So far I have only put two bikes on it but holds them well and does what it is supposed to.

  • Weight Capacity of Surco # BT300 Spare Tire Mounted Bike Rack
According to Surco, their # BT300 spare tire mounted bike rack can handle three bikes weighing up to 35 lbs apiece for a total capacity of 105 lbs. I'm not aware of any vehicle manufacturer having a stated capacity for their spare tire holder. We've never heard of a factory installed spare tire mount on a vehicle failing because a spare tire mount bike rack was used, the rack should work just fine for you.

  • Installation/Removal of the Surco BT300 On a Jeep Wrangler
The backing plate of the Surco Bike Rack part # BT300 that you referenced attaches to the rim by it sliding over the mounting plate for the wheel and then using the lug nuts that attach the wheel to the vehicle as a way to secure the wheel and the mounting plate to the vehicle. If you can loosen the bolts that hold the wheel to the vehicle it should remove. It is also possible that you are referring to the security bolt that holds the rack to the mounting plate. That would have been tightened...

  • Motorhome Bike Rack Availability
We do offer a range of bike carriers that are suitable for use on the back of a trailer and all can be seen on the provided link. We offer RV-approved racks for camper roof or hitch mounting, and also for attachment to a ladder, ball mount or to the bumper on a camper. None of these racks is designed to attach to a spare tire carrier however. The linked article will explain further. At the back of an RV or trailer the ride quality is much rougher than that of a passenger vehicle, it takes...

If you are talking about the locking knob on the Surco spare tire bike rack # BT300 then unless it is unlocked the knob will just spin. Sometimes you have to put tension on the knob by pushing in or pulling out on it while turning it. If you are talking about another part of the rack, let me know and I can help troubleshoot further.

  • Bike Rack to Use on Forest River Salem Travel Trailer
I've linked an article to help you determine the bolt pattern of your spare tire. However, the Surco Bike Carrier # BT300 is not designed to be used on the back of a trailer or motorhome. There is a lot more movement back there then there is on a vehicle so the bike rack suffers a lot more stress. Unfortunately, none of our spare tire racks can be used on the back of an RV or trailer. I've attached a link to all of the racks we carry that can.

  • Can the Surco Spare Tire 3-Bike Carrier be Installed Without the Spare Tire on a 2013 Jeep Wrangler
The Surco Spare Tire 3-Bike Carrier # BT300, and all of the other spare tire racks for that matter, actually use the spare tire to help stabilize the bike rack so you will need your spare tire installed to utilize any of these bike racks. It would be best to have the spare tire for your 2013 Jeep Wrangler anyways in case you ever do have a flat. We do have other bike rack options that mount on the roof (via a roof rack) or in a trailer hitch. If you'd rather go one of these routes instead...

  • Surco Spare Tire Mounted Bike Rack for 1997 Toyota Rav 4
According to Surco, their # BT300 spare tire-mounted bike rack is compatible with the 1997 Rav 4. Everything necessary to install the rack is included. If you'll be transporting women's bikes or bikes with sharply-angled top tubes, you might also consider a frame adapter bar like part # 64005. The bar spans the distance between the handlebar gooseneck and the seat post, which provides a secondary attachment point for the bike rack. This allows the bike to be carried level, which maximizes...

  • Does the Surco Spare Tire 3 Bike Carrier Fit a 2001 Toyota RAV4
Yes. The Surco Spare Tire 3 Bike Carrier is a confirmed fit for your 2001 Toyota RAV4. I love that this rack comes with a built in lock for added security. If you'll be carrying any bikes with odd shaped frames like women's and kids bikes, you may need a frame adapter like the Swagman Deluxe # 64005 to carry those bikes on this rack. I've attached a video on how the frame adapter works.

  • spare tire 3 bike rack Wrangler 2015
The Surco Spare Tire 3-Bike rack part # BT300 that you came from has a total weight capacity of 105-lbs or 35-lbs per bike. From my research I found the ebikes can weigh up to 70-lbs. I am afraid the electric bikes you want to carry would be much more than the carrier can handle, even with the batteries removed. • Spare Tire Bike Carrier to Fit on Wide Tires
I do have another option for you but the Surco spare tire bike rack, part # BT300, does not fit oversized tires. Take a look at the Hollywood Racks SR2, part # HRSR2, instead. It'll fit up to 12-1/2 wide tires so it's pretty likely to fit your Jeep tires. The catch is it's only a 2-bike carrier. We don't have any 3-bike carriers that fit oversized tires. The most economically priced spare tire mounted bike rack we offer that would work well on your 2005 Toyota RAV4 would be the Surco Bike rack part # BT300. Otherwise the # BT300 would carry your bikes off-center. The RAV4 in the video I attached for the Spare Me uses an offset spare as well so it would be a similar install.

  • Will Malone RunWay Spare Tire Bike Rack Fit 2002 Jeep Wrangler X
The Malone RunWay, part # MPG2148, is confirmed to fit your 2002 Jeep Wrangler as long as you have the factory spare tire. Your only catch is the 35 pound bike because the RunWay has a maximum capacity of 33 pounds per bike. Since you're so close you likely won't have an issue. I definitely recommend loading the heavier bike closest to the Jeep though. You also may need a bike frame adapter bar for the girl's bike to keep it level on the rack. I recommend the Swagman Deluxe, part # 64005.
