Yakima CoreBars - 50" Long - Qty 2:Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer installation instructions and specs for complete information.
Today we have our 2012 Toyota Four Runner, we're going to be doing a test fit on the Yakima Core Bar Timberline Tower Roof Rack System. Now this system is specifically designed to mount to your raised rails on your Four Runner. As you can see I've already got in place just to give you a good idea of what it looks like. Now with this, you're gonna be able to carry roof mounted accessories, things like bike racks, kayak carriers, cargo boxes, and more. It features 50 inch long steel crossbars. You could see here how they span across the whole roof, that way you'll be able to carry not one or two bike racks, but maybe three bike racks if that's what you're into, possibly even two kayaks. Now I mentioned that they are steel.
These compared to other crossbars are going to have a higher weight capacity, so that's what sets these aside from the others. You can see that steel inside here, so you're not going to be able to use those T slot accessories. If that's something you're interested in. You can check out the Yakima Jet Stream Crossbar. But again, they're going to have a higher weight capacity at 220 pounds, that's a step up compared to some of the other systems out there, and they're going to work with your standard clamp on accessories. Now for Timberline Towers, hold your core bar in place.
You can see them here. This is what clamps around that raised rail. It actually features a rubber coated stainless steel strap, that way it doesn't harm or scratch that finish. Underneath our cover here you can see how it hides and protects our hardware, deter accept, and also protects it from the elements. Once everything's tightened on, the cover goes back on.
If you'd like, you can knock out that plastic core and replace it with a metal lock and core key to like, that way one key operates every tower and you can have more security. Now up here on top of the Four Runner, I did mention that the weight capacity was 220 pounds. You do want to double check with your Four Runners Owner's Manual to see if your roof can support that much weight. Now I'll give you some clearance measurements. This will give you a good idea of how much you've added to the roof of your Four Runner, and it also may help you when using those clamp on accessories. From the top of the roof at the highest point here to the underside of the bar is about three and a quarter of an inch in from the top roof to the top of bars about four inches. Now that we go over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get them set up.
I've already got that front core bar in place mounted to my raised rails in my Four Runner. The rear one installs the same way. Let's go ahead and do it together. So on my little white table here, I've got it set up. One side is good, we just need to repeat the same process on the other side. So we can start by grabbing that Timberline Tower. We're going to remove the front cover here and undo the strap. Now we've got some adapters we need to install for our core bar. Now these are included with the core bar. We'll take the classic portion here and we're going to click it in place right here on top. And then we'll take the core bar sleeve. You can see how it slides over there and holds the core bar in place. We need to put it on our tower. Now we want to be sure we it on correctly. The Timberline Tower needs to be facing the correct way, and since we're working on this side here, we want to put it this direction, so I'm going to hold it in place and turn it over, and we'll need to tighten up the Allen bolt through this hole here. Now the easiest way to access it is to push the strap all the way forward, and that kind of opens up that hole. We'll take the tool and start tightening that down. And we're going to tighten it down all the way. And once we hear the audible click in our tool, that's how we know it's properly torqued down. Just like that. Now with it tightened down, we still need to be sure that it's a little bit loose. And what causes that to happen is the Allen Bolt inside. So if it's not loose enough, we'll need to loosen it up in here. And by doing that it's going to allow us to easily slide it onto that core bar. With that being said, we're ready to slide it on. We'll lift it up and just push it on like so. We'll take that end cap, and slide that, and then I want to show you underneath here really quick that we don't need to tighten this down to our bar. We'll just leave it loosely installed that way we can adjust it later on top of our roof to get that correct bar overhang on each side. Now when we set it in place, we want to be sure that that round portion of the bar is facing forward. You can see here it's got that larger, that is the front. Now we can really set this anywhere we want on our raised rails, but we want to set it up to where it's going to work best with our accessories. Once we've got it in place, we'll be sure that that strap goes underneath and we need to connect it to the hooks here. So I'm going to do this for both sides. Now we need to be sure we have the same crossbar spread on each side. Again, you want to be sure to send it up to where it's going to work for less than or accessories, but I'm going to measure center on center and make sure it's the same. Now we need to be sure we have the same bar overhang on each side. That's going to be the distance between here and here. Now you're welcome to use a tape measure for this or you can just eye it up. So we can just give it a good push and tell us the same on each side. I'd say that looks pretty good. And then we can tighten up that Allen bolt here on the inside. And by doing this it's going to lock that top adaptor to our bar so it cannot shift from side to side. Once that's done, we can then move over to this one. And that draws the strap up underneath and locks that in a position. Again, for both, you want to listen for the audible click and our tool. And one thing I did forget to mention is you want the Timberline Tower to be centered with the top of the rail. So you can see it's got a little indicator here. You just want that planted directly on top. So if you've got it set up like this, you're all set. Go ahead and repeat the same process on the other side. Once everything is assembled and installed correctly, the last thing to do is to put on our cover and we're ready to load up our favorite roof mount accessories and hit the road. But that's going to complete our test fit of the Yakima Core Bar Timberline Tower Roof Rack System on our 2012 Toyota Four Runner.

These crossbars combine the strength of steel with an aerodynamic shape to create a heavy-duty yet quiet roof rack for your vehicle. Full-length bars maximize cargo carrying capacity and work with most clamp-on accessories. From start to finish, the folks at etrailer -- and I spoke to several people there, so it was a consistent corporate vibe -- were fantastic to deal with.
There were delays in getting my product that were on the supplier side and out of etrailer's control, yet etrailer folks kept me up to date and also worked on a customized solution.
My goal was to be able to carry my surfboard on the roof of our 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe to the beach more than 3 hours away. But the particular model we had had no existing racks, no recessed areas, nothing to fix racks to. Not even the dealer had a solution. I was sh*t out of luck.
But etrailer hooked me up. The racks did take me a while to put on, but most of that time was fine tuning to reduce “hum” while driving. I’m very happy with them.
Thanks to etrailer, I have gone surfing and can go surfing whenever I'd like to.
Fit our Subaru Forester perfectly. Install was a breeze. For the money I wish they came with the core locks.
These crossbars were easy to install and adjust. Be sure to get all the pieces you need. There is no mention of the Landing Pads necessary to use these.
Very nice quality towers. Very heavy duty! They have a cool "snap" on / off mechanism for quick removal and installation.
I've just recently installed this setup on my 2015 Toyota Camry.
etrailer - Shopping for this rack was fairly simple, and the shipping from etrailer was quick and reliable. I received the rack in 2 different shipments but they both arrived at the same time. etrailer made sure the all the contents were available. They also have several resourceful videos on their YouTube page, which was helpful while shopping for the rack and during a few trouble shooting items while I was installing.
Yakima Core Bar - Overall a quality product. Everything necessary was supplied, including a handy measuring tape and some very well written instructions. The fit is clean and very sturdy. The only qualm I have is that the hex hole in the large anchor bolts are a bit larger than the supplied hex driver. Toward the end of the installation, the tool was worn and ended up turning inside the bolt itself (not due to over torquing whatsoever). I ended up having to use a hex set I had in my toolbox to complete the installation because the provided tool was starting to strip out the anchor bolt. With that said, the kit is still a great kit that meets my expectations.
Wind noise is quieter than my OEM VW bars on my 2017 Volkswagen GTI. It's noticeable, but nothing extreme - I believe that's just the price you pay when adding crossbars to a vehicle.
Verdict - etrailer has definitely met my expectations, and the Yakima kit provided is a well designed kit that fits well!
You guys provide great products and excellent customer service.
Thanks
As described! Quick delivery!
Very good product. The Yakama towers and cross bars feel very solid and appears to be high quality. Very easy install. Others have complained about the instructions, but guess I'm a visual person because the pictures all seemed very clear to me and the install was very easy. They do sit higher than I expected. After adding a Rhino Rack cargo basket, we only have about 4-5" clearance below the garage door.
Great product great service
Yakima SkyLine Towers are well-designed and well-executed. They easily fit into the Yakima Landing Pads and form a tight fit when closed. And they also fit nicely into the Yakima JetStream Crossbars when following the Yakima instruction manual and various YouTube videos. I did run into a snag at first where I found the rubber seal on one SkyLine Tower getting caught on the JetStream Crossbar track, but after that I was careful not to let that happen with the other towers.
I find the appearance of the Yakima SkyLine Towers to match their level of quality in materials and design.
These crossbars feel like they are well made and sturdy. It took less than 30 minutes to install with the Ridgeline Towers. I love the look of the bars! Can't wait to load the Kayaks up and get out on the water.
Roof rack fits and works as advertised. Over the phone customer support for sales and install directions were very helpful and thorough. Geoff is an excellent brand ambassador who goes above and beyond to fulfill customer expectations. I will definitely be shopping at etrailer for my future vehicle needs. Well done!
Timely delivery of my order, as usual! Easy to install on my 2015 4Runner. After I had the mounts ready and put on both bars, I installed the front one and fine-tuned it, the second took even less time then. I now have the ability to carry up to 3 kayaks, perfect! etrailer is a great company!
Should include extra end caps just in case they fall off.
Great company. Fast delivery.
My experience with etrailer has been excellent. There was going to be a potential delay in one of the products, but their customer service promptly informed me, half the price of some of their competitors so can't really complain. In the end they got the part ahead of schedule and was able to ship in a timely manner. I will definitely keep them in mind for future purchases.
Very sturdy, well made. The assembly instructions are not too good but if you call Yakima they will provide additional instructions.
Customer service was excellent, they called me to tell me one item was backordered and how long it would be. Package was shipped with enough packing material. Install was pretty easy, some of the Yakima measurements in the manual are a couple inches off but no big deal. This will be used to carry a box for when the family takes trips. Can pile all the luggage up top and have more room in the car. I would recommend the Yakima corebar roof rack and etrailer! Their price was lower than 2 other sites I checked.
Very happy with the Yakima roof top rack kit for my 2017 Ford Edge with glass roof. The instructions were a little confusing at first, but after reading through them a couple of times while working with the product they became much clearer. The Yakima fit site was helpful as well. After the initial cross bar mounting measurements and set up, attaching and detaching the racks from the roof is a very simple process.
I am thrilled this got delivered sooner than anticipated! It was quite easy to install once you started actually putting it together and measuring everything out. I like that this can easily be removed and installed onto the vehicle.
Wonderful service from Kimberly at etrailer.com. I had ordered a roof rack in December for I car I had on order. Ultimately I purchased a different vehicle more than 3 months later and the roof rack and mounting parts were not compatible. I had no problem returning the unopened products and just needed to pay the postage. Kimberly made the process easy and seamless, making sure to send the new Yakama cross bars and necessary parts. It fits beautifully on my new car and setup was fairly simple with video support and step-by-step instructions.
Great product and Sales Support from etrailer.
I bought this for my Son as a Grad/BDay gift for a Honda HR-V which has slightly odd roof/door shape
He installed it himself said the install was straightforward but the instructions could use a little improvement.
etrailer Sales Support was great, I was a little concerned about getting the right parts and the return policy. Olivia was great to work with, she offered recommendations and matched the parts to the type and vehicle it was to be installed on along with a kayak mount.
All the parts arrived in mint condition with no missing pieces.
I'll for sure return to etrailer on future purchases.
I have a 2004 Toyota Camry, my purpose is to purchase this Yakima Baseline System for Rooftop tent. My 23Zero rooftop tent weighs 130 lb, so far it's super solid. I did some minor adjustments based on the shape and level of the roof when mounting it.
Great product! Relatively easy install, had the racks on for a few days now with no issues.
Etrailer is a supplier of quality products with GREAT service. These bars work great for our Chevy Cruze along with the rest of the necessary parts for the roofrack install.
