  • Limited Lifetime warranty
  • 30-Day satisfaction guarantee

Insert these helper springs in between the individual coil loops in either your front or rear coil springs to defeat driver fatigue and add better support for heavy loads. Most factory front coil suspensions have a difficult time supporting heavy front loads like winches, brush guards and snowplows. The rear coils may struggle with supporting the extra load placed on your rear axle when you're towing a trailer or using a hitch-mounted cargo carrier or bike rack. If your coil springs are totally squished under a load, the lack of shock absorption can be harsh on your backside, especially if you spend long hours sitting in your vehicle while clearing snow or driving to a campsite.

Coil SumoSpring installed between rungs of coil spring

Inside each helper spring, a core of microcellular polyurethane foam adds cushioning between your coils to make your ride more comfortable. Each doughnut-shaped spring has H-shaped channels at the top and bottom that fit to the rung of an individual coil in your front or rear coil springs. The cushioning absorbs shock, but also works progressively to better support weight, keeping your truck level.

Unlike air springs that fit inside your coil springs, these polyurethane springs require no air pressure monitoring, and they are easier to install. Say goodbye to air lines, valves and air tanks and hello to maintenance-free suspension support. Unbumpify your ride with Coil SumoSprings for coil suspensions.

Initial reaction is positive - I installed front and rear sumo helper springs yesterday (5-23-19) and did a test drive around the block. The side to side pitching of our Transit Class B+ motorhome was greatly reduced. I still need to test on highway. I did not install the optional spacers that increase the ride height and reaction time of the rear sumo springs. The spacers will be added later if needed.

by:

Just finished installing these on my 2014 Ford Expedition EL Limited. Very easy to install. Never removed the wheel to install. Jacked the vehicle up one side at a time and did the install. Haven't hooked to my 30ft camper yet to see how they work. Will update after my trip in July.

by:

Got em in! Not the easiest install, but they seem to stiffen up the ride. I’ll update after the next trailer trip...

by:

Quick Delivery, good packaging. Already know the product is 5/5, I am using other products from this line.

by:

Put these on my 2017 Ford Expedition EL equipped with the factory installed towing package. I tow a 2014 Winnebago 30 RE. I had used these on my previous Expedition. The tongue weight of the trailer is such that I got about 1 1/2" of "squat" when hitched (and with the weight distribution hitch correctly set). The Sumo Springs reduced the sag by about 1".
A bonus if you will is that these have no effect on ride when the trailer is not hitched to the vehicle.
These work well and are a great alternative to air shocks. They can be a bit tricky to install but with some patience and elbow grease you can get em on.

by:

I installed these on our 2020 Ford Expedition this past spring. Went on super easy using a little dish soap, much easier than I had heard from other reviews/videos. Works great to prevent squat while towing our travel trailer with a 900 lb tongue weight (scale weighed). I do notice a slight increase in stiffness/jitter from the rear when not towing and vehicle is lightly loaded, but nothing that makes me want to remove them.

by:

I installed these on the rear of my 2017 Ford Expedition EL, hoping it would help with the ride quality and handling while towing my 6,500lb travel trailer. The box did not come with instructions, but I downloaded them from etrailer's site. Installation was fairly easy, although I did have to take the wheels off. After my first trip with the trailer (400) miles, I didn't really notice any improvement with the handling, but hopefully they are helping take some of the stress off the rear springs. These are fairly expensive for something that has no noticeable benefit, so I don't think I could recommend them.

by:

Helps when under heavy load and reduces “bottoming” out effects on rough terrain. Using this for towing a travel trailer approximately 8000 lbs. with a 2008 Ford Expedition.

by:

eTrailer delivered once again! Great service, support, and the product was exactly as advertised. Installation was easy with clear instructions. The product seems of great quality. I have yet to try the car with the trailer connected, but from the looks of the installation it seems that the results will be as good as the experience thus far. I recommend eTrailer.com.

by:

Installed over a year ago on a 2020 Ford Expedition. I pull a 30’ travel trailer and the sumo springs made a big difference. Well worth the money, easy installation.

by:

Only took about 20 minutes .it was a perfect fit for my 2017 expedition. My 20ft toy hauler rides perfect with this set up .

by:

I didn’t notice a change in ride. It decreased the squat between loaded and unloaded by 1/4 inch. It also raised the back by 1/4 inch. 2019 Expedition Max.

by:

Work great and great price

by:

Unbelievably fast shipment on a part that I really needed that was on back order everyplace else. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

2021 Highlander front with drive V6. Product is right on the money for description. My Bass boat is 3900lbs, definitely took a 1-1/4 out from the sag. Also, extremely less bounce. I would prefer to have air bags, though no one makes them for my year. This is a great alternative.

by:

I have a 2015 Subaru Outback. When towing it went from a mushy rear end to a nice stiffness. Max tongue weight is 275# and with 220# on a recent trip (~2000# trailer weight) it only squatted the rear end about an inch (after rolling back and forth to let it settle).

Previously I was getting instability above 60mph especially when hitting the bumps at the ends of bridges. On my recent trip I was able to hit 80mph with the car feeling totally planted.

When totally empty you do get just the smallest hint of a 'truck like' ride but I typically carry some tools and other stuff all the time and that dampens it.

For install I found it helped to sort of feed the sumo into the coil as you kinda roll your hand over the part juming into the groove.

by:

Works exactly how I needed. The Ride is still very nice. There's about 350lbs with the weight of the box & rack. Suspension in the rear used to sag a bunch, even with a 2" suspension lift.

by:

Installation was a bit more difficult than anticipated, however, for an 81-year-old guy, most everything is. The SumoSprings work just fine. I feel like they've reduced the sway and increased stability while hauling our Tab320 trailer with our Subaru Outback. Service from eTrailer was fast.

by:

Installed the CSS-1168R Coil SumoSprings Custom Helper spacers on a 2011 Honda Ridgeline 4 wheel drive rear springs. Installation took about 45 minutes including removal of tires. Once spacer was started the installation was easy.
Zip ties were a little more difficult because of the dust strut covers installed by Honda.

by:

Shipping was fast and packaged well. The material looks and feels durable and easy to install but is a little loose on the springs, and not as snug as I thought. Although once I did a test drive around the neighborhood it tighten itself on the coil springs and hope it stays that way!

by:

Did not fit the 2022 Subaru Outback as advertised making these a total cash grab on etrailers part. Buyer Beware. Incorrect fitment guide means expensive mistake.

by:

I was very excited about these for my 4x4 2015 Nissan Frontier. I am not completely displeased with them because they do make a mild difference over bumps, but they aren't worth over 100 bucks no way, the fact that I had to CUT THEM to fit due to them being too long made me feel like the company does not due their research when manufacturing them. It was so long that it lapped the beginning on it, so in order to have them installed as shown on the instructions I had to cut nearly 3 inches off... Which meant I had to comely install them, mark then uninstall, cut to fit, then install again. For an item to cost this much I expected better build quality.

Bang for buck it's not worth it, it's overpriced and I wouldn't recommend them for that cost.

  • Can More Than One SumoSprings CSS-1168 be Used at the Same Time
If the SumoSprings # CSS-1168 is not picking up enough slack on your 2020 Ford Expedition, you can definitely add on to it. I spoke with SumoSprings and they said it is perfectly fine to add on another # CSS-1168 if the first one isn't getting all the sag under control. That being said, as the Timbren # TFR1502D is designed to work on a 2004 to 2014 Ford F-350, I cannot recommend it as a fit. If this does not fix your issue, however, you will most likely need to use a weight distribution...

  • Are Coil SumoSprings a Good Option for 2018 Ford Expedition
The Coil SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs # CSS-1168 that fit your 2018 Ford Expedition are going to do a really good job helping with the rear sag you have under load. They won't overly stiffen the ride because the coil springs won't engage without a load; you may notice it going over a particularly large bump but it isn't going to make your ride uncomfortable, and the benefit is going to be noticeable when you do tow. I have added a link to the installation details for you to check...

  • Will the Coil SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs for Coil Spring Suspension Help Fight Sag
Yes. The Coil SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs for Coil Spring Suspension # CSS-1168 are designed to help keep your coil springs from compressing too much, so they can be used to help fight squat when towing a travel trailer. These are the only solution available for the 2012 Ford Expedition outside of adding a weight distribution hitch, which would provide the best option for fighting sag on your rear end. I've linked a review video of these coil helpers for you to check out, but if...
