Hi, I'm Matt with etrailer, and today we're talking about our Rhino-Rack HD crossbars. These are gonna be some of our more bulky, heavy-duty crossbars, design to carry ladders, lumber, or even kayaks. So let's check 'em out. Today we're really only gonna be talking about the crossbars themselves, and these are gonna be available in a lot of different kits for different needs. So right now, we have just the kit of two, and these are gonna be able to work with a lot of different towers. Like the neighbor we have, they have this track installed on their camper so they can put it on top of their camper.
Now there's gonna be other kits that'll allow 'em to put it on their truck, and you can even get this as a kit of one all the way up to a kit of four to fit other needs you have, whether you want more support throughout the top of your roof or you don't need as much support. But today, we're mainly gonna be talking about the crossbars and what they're capable of doing. And with these crossbars like I was talking about earlier, these are gonna be great if you have any ladders, lumber, or even kayaks. And that's gonna be due to a few reasons because this is gonna be really compatible with some accessories designed to hold those items on. One of those being our load stops that can help keep your load from shifting around.
And we're gonna have the option to mount a cargo roller because loading up those longer items can be pretty difficult too. And we even have this lock or cable and lock that's specifically designed to work with these types of crossbars. And that's not to say that this isn't gonna work in other types of applications as what we have it right now for is more for our work application. If you wanted to use it for more recreational uses, this is gonna be fantastic for that too 'cause like I said, you can strap a kayak to the top of this and you could even put an awning on here too. So if you got done being on the river or the creek, you could go over here by your camper and put out that awning to relax out in the shade.
But I do think this is gonna lend itself more to those work applications, 'cause one, like I was talking about, there are gonna be plenty of Rhino-Rack accessories that can help you with those loads. And the second reason is gonna be 'cause the shape of the bar. This bar is pretty large, both in width and height, and that height is really gonna affect a lot of clamp-on accessories from getting around here. The other fitment issue I see is gonna be this channel we have. And this sure is really only gonna work with a lot of Rhino-Rack accessories.
Any other brands really aren't gonna have anything designed to fit a channel that large. Like if you are planning to use this for more recreational uses and you wanna put maybe a rooftop tent up here or some bike racks that Rhino-Rack doesn't offer, then more than likely, they're probably not gonna fit on here. So what you can do in that instance is instead of getting the HD bars, you can get Rhino-Rack Vortex bars. And really, since they are made by Rhino-Rack, they should use the same towers and just drop in. Or if you wanted to go down the other route, you could get a platform to put on top of here. And a platform rack is gonna give you a whole lot more options because, not only is it gonna give you more mounting options, but more accessories are also gonna be more compatible with it. We can check out some of the specs. So first up, we don't have a weather strip at the very top of the time being 'cause we took it off to showcase what access accessories you can put on here. If you wanna mount any accessories to the top, you're actually gonna have to cut this down to size and really arrange it in a new way so you can fit your gear up here. Now, what this strip does is prevent any water from getting in your channel or any debris. It's also gonna help reduce wind noise when you're driving down the road. What I also like about it is it also gives us additional padding. So when we do have those ladders, that lumber sitting on top of here, it's not damaging anything. It's important to note, we do have an additional channel on the bottom and that's primarily gonna be used to put your tower or connect your tower to, but you can also use it to mount additional accessories, like this locking cable we have. So if you're only using accessories like these, then you shouldn't actually have to cut down your weather strip on top at all and you can leave it as is. As for the construction of the bar itself, it's going made of aluminum. So that's gonna give you a few things. It's gonna make this lightweight, really easy to move, especially with putting this on top of your roof. And it's also gonna make this weather-resistant. So when you have this for a long time out in the elements, it's gonna be less likely to rust over time. Now even though it is pretty lightweight and made out of that lightweight material, it is still gonna be very sturdy and strong. And that does come with a caveat though, because if you do plan on putting some really heavy items on here, it's really gonna depend on what kind of mounting system you have, whether that's a fixed mounting system, if it's on raised or flush rails, that's all gonna be factors on what the max weight capacity is. If you really wanna push that weight capacity with really heavy loads, I'd actually recommend any type of ladder rack. But if you're in a situation like we are in today where you have a camper shell on the back, that really isn't going to be an option. At the end of the day, these are gonna be really good crossbars for certain situations. And that's really gonna come down to what you're hauling and what accessories you want to mount on top of here. And if you do find that maybe this isn't the best option for you and that some of the accessories that you want to put up here won't fit, we have plenty of other options on our website. But if you do find that you are in those working conditions and you can mount those accessories on top of here, then I think this is a great option for you. I've been using my Rhino-Rack primarily for hauling up to two kayaks. It has performed very. On the particular trip we are on now we went thru some pretty high winds blowing from the side of our rig and the kayak stayed secured. I would highly recommend this for anything you want to carry on top of your vehicle.
Great! It came quickly and went together like a dream on top of which it looks fantastic on my truck. It's not the first time I bought from etrailer and it won't be the last. Thanks so much!
The rack fit well and was easy to install. Seems to be made well. The problem is the amount of road noise. I never even put the basket on. It was so loud, it roared. I repositioned it several times but the noise was way too much and I finally just removed it. I spent a lot of money for the rack and the basket and now they are in storage. I wish it would have worked out better because I thought it looked really good.
Ok… giving this item four stars as an overall view. The good: it fits a Jeep Wrangler perfectly. With the appropriate legs, it canvases across the entire roof of the Jeep with the legs attaching to the gutters. The bad: just a bit too noisy for my liking, even with the appropriate wind faring (I don’t expect absolute silence since I have a one touch sky top). The noise is not a big deal on short trips, but it was definitely driving my wife and kids nuts on a 2+ hour drive (stick some headphones on the kids, problem fixed)
In the future, I might switch it up from these square rails and go with something a bit more aerodynamic…
This has been the best mod I have done to the truck. It allows me to organize tools, recovery gear, bikes and camping gear easily and safely. I have gone thru several iterations of layouts and enjoy the flexibility. Almost every time I extend the tray at an event people flock around to ask questions and see how it works. My back enjoys it too!
Ordered a Rhino Rack for my 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali. Rack arrived in very good shape and all items were there. Installing at this time and see no problems ahead.
The instruction are very dif. To understand. I did not get a measuring strip, had to mount it for location by trial and error. I did not like having to reference the DK sheet for every step. DK sheet has columns with pictures at the top/ you follow the line for your yr. Of truck, and it is not clear how the numbers in the columns relate to the pictures. Took most of a day to mount them. Very frustrating. Will see how they work
This rack works perfectly on my Nissan Versa for carrying my two Perception Sound 9'6" kayaks. The Rhino-Racks look good to me. The kayaks can rest directly on the rubber pads on the rails, unlike the Yakama racks I had in the past that had bare pipe rails. Also, I expect I can buy parts to adapt this product to a different car without having to buy new towers. I am sorry there are not hooks or loops to attach bungees when carrying lumber. They are noisy in the wind, but less so when carrying the kayaks.
Great product sturdy bars. Keep in mind anything you install on the bars needs to have longer bolts because of how big the bars are but that's a minor detail
I have attached pics of the rack attached to a 2014 F-350. I went with the 65” crossbars and they worked great! This gives me enough room to lay two kayaks flat on the bars. I would rate the Rhino Rack roof kit , etrailer site information and etrailer customer service all 5’s! Always great to deal with your company. My only recommendation would be to make it easier for customers to submit product reviews and pics. Thanks for all your assistance.

Good quality and locks are included. The plastic lock covers are flimsy but they will keep an honest person honest.

This rack (including these legs) is the best arrangement for taking our bikes camping with our fifth wheel camper we could have imagined. After trying bike racks on the back of our camper and inside our camper, this rack finally is a safe way to transport our bikes with us. It secures the bikes using the tires and no more damage to bikes. It took a few times to figure out a way to get the bikes on the roof easily. I built a small 15" by 72" temporary platform for the front of the bed to stand on that can be easily slid under the hitch when not in use. WE LOVE THIS RACK.
Ordering was very easy, as was the installation, the directions are very easy to follow. This will make for an easy way to carry kayaks while pulling the fifth wheel. Very solid rack.
I got the roof rack mounted anyways. Better pics to come when it's all finished!
Have used our Rhino Rack crossbars several times to haul 2 kayaks while towing our 5th wheel trailer. Racks have been sturdy enough to slide our kayaks forward some to allow space in the back for our trailer to move into tight turns. Installation took a little time but they are good and sturdy.
I was really looking forward to this rack as I'll be running my roof tent on it. Unfortunately it came damaged, since the damage was limited to the end caps I went ahead and mounted it.
The rack itself looks slick, comes with little measuring sticks to make sure you install it straight the first time, comes with all the tools required.
So thats about it for good stuff.
Wind noise , to give you an idea how bad it is I have this on a old f250 with a bad muffler and 33in mud tires and its still almost intolerable! It's like they put it in a wind tunnel and tuned for as much noise as possible.
I also ordered a roof bag at the same time , I wasn't expecting much from it . It's a bag with a zipper and straps. Sadly the hardware is junk and I snapped a buckle with some light tensioning.

Initial service was as good or better than expected. Things went downhill when the damage was reported. I told the rep I was only at a US address for the next 10days and if the replacement was going to take longer than that would they ship it to Canada?
The answer was no, they won't ship it to Canada (talking about a couple pieces of plastic you could stick in the mail for $2.00). They then proceeded to slowplay the authorisation for the replacement parts and shipped them the day I told them was my last day to receive them.
So to sum it all up I am the happy owner of one of the loudest racks on the planet that looks sketchy due to the shipping damage. A roof pack that will probably end up at the dump after one extended trip.

Great product everything fit perfectly. With the heavy duty bars almost all the hardware for anything you put on the rack is too short
I was in a roof rack jam. There was a national shortage of the rack I needed for my car and our summer vacation was a week away. I went to etrailer.com when I couldnt find the roof rack anywhere else on the web. Another website actually suggested that they might have what I needed.

This rack worked out great... I installed in on a 2017 Ford F-150. We drove 6 hrs through wind and rain with a SUP and Tandem Kayak on top. It really took a beating in a storm the whole way. One bracket was a little loose and shifted because of the wind on the Kayak, but it held together. Super happy with Rhino rack!
I used the crossbar on the front of my UTV rollbar to hold a LED light and two sun visors. It worked perfectly. I used rollbar clamps made to fit the rollbar to hold the crossbar in place.
The Rhino Rack 2500 Series and the Rhino-rack Vortex Aero Crossbars fit like a glove. GREAT quality at a decent price (you get what you pay for). I also purchased the Rhino-rack J-style Kayak Carrier which was also a great product!! I was helped by Karen F and she did a great job from start to finish, thanks Karen!!! I have purchased several items over the years from etrailer, they have very good prices as well as a very knowledgeable staff. This business and its staff are a class act!!!
This kit is easy to slap on and sturdy enough to balance my skis and snowboards. I recently used the Rhino Rack on a three hour drive to a ski resort and had no issues.
