Male: Today in our 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, we're going to be test fitting the Yakima Jetstream roof rack system, consisting of part numbers Y00425, these are the Yakima Jetstream crossbars, 50 inches long. Part number Y00146, and these are the baseline towers for the Yakima crossbars. And part number Y06127 and Y06153, these are the base clip fit kits for the vehicle and these are what clamp it onto your vehicle. We already have the front one installed, as you can see it has a nice aerodynamic shape to it. It has a carrying capacity of 220 pounds, although, you want to double check with your vehicles manufacture's instructions to make sure that your roof can withstand that kind of weight. Let's go ahead and show you how the rear one gets put on. We already have it partially assembled on our table here. Now when you first get the bars, you're actually going to see that there is a strip on the inside.
Ideally, once you have these in place and into their proper measurements you would cut the strips to length and put them in place, but for today's purposes we're just going to go ahead and leave them off. We'll first take our tower, go to this empty space here, take our plastic piece, and it just pushes into place, like so. Then we'll take our metal piece here, line it up, flip it, go to the screw in the center here, and just tighten this up . not all the way just enough . so this will fit into our bar. Because this whole section here is going to fit into the T slot at the end of our crossbar.
Go ahead and do that now. I'll loosen it up just a little bit more to make it easier to move along. Now, on the bar here, it's kind of hard to see, but there are actually these lines of measurement. You'll refer to your fit kit instructions or go on Yakima's website and find a proper measurement and align them accordingly. Once you have it to the proper measurement, then you'll tighten it down and you're hearing a couple clicks with our tightening tool here and that means that they're tightened to their proper torque. Alright, we'll go ahead and put our end cap on, and we'll go ahead and open our rear doors and set it into place. We'll set it down in a general place here, definitely not its finishing place, and we'll go ahead and measure for our crossbar spread, and that's going to be from center of the bar to center of the bar.
You'll find this in your instructions as well. Alright, with our crossbar spread set, now we'll go ahead and open our rear doors, and get ready to install our clamps. Now again as to which clamps go on the front or rear, refer to your instructions and they'll let you know. We'll open up our cover here and just push our clips into place. And if it doesn't go down all the way, you may just have to loosen it up just a little bit, like so. OK, we'll repeat this for the other side. OK, now we'll get them loosely tightened down.
This is going to be on both sides. Then we'll go back and forth, and go tighten them down for good. Alright, we'll also tighten down these top screws here. Alright, we'll continue to tighten these down. Now some things you can actually put on these roof racks, there's a lot of things. Such as bike racks, ski and snowboard carriers, cargo baskets, and closed cargo boxes, as well as water sport carriers such as for kayaks and canoes. Although, always double check your load limit to make sure you're not exceeding it. That's good. Go ahead and close that door up at the top. Same here. Then we'll just put our covers on here and that's our final step. And the nice thing about these covers here is they have plastic covers on the front which you can pop out and remove and replace with Yakima's lock core system, so you can actually prevent theft and tampering of your roof rack, once it's installed. And there you have it, for the Yakima roof rack system, on our 2011 Chevrolet Malibu.

Hyundai Sonata - glass pano roof. These items have been on for about 1-year. So happy with the set up. I’ve take a road bike and a mountain bike on 500+ mile trips. The mounts do an excellent job.
Have had base clips come loose twice almost loosing our Kayaks. Have moved them back a little to see if this helps reduce wind upward pressure on front of kayaks.
