Recommended Roof Rack for a 2015 Hyundai Sonata with Panoramic Roof

Question:

Is there a roof rack solution for a 2015 Hyundai Sonata that allows for the panoramic roof to be fully opened after the roof rack is installed? The rack will be used for carrying a kayak, but I would like to be able to maintain the function of the panoramic roof when the rack is not being used.

The roof rack that I recommend using on your 2015 Hyundai Sonata with the panoramic roof is the Yakima JetStream roof rack. This consists of the 60" JetStream Bars # Y00426, along with the BaseLine Towers # Y28TR, and the BaseClip Fit Kits # Y06137 and # Y06127. If you would like to add locks to this then you also need part # Y07204.

I spoke with my contact at Yakima and he said that right at where the roof rack bars sit you will have about 4" - 4-1/2" and then in the middle of the roof (if you were to lay something flat on the crossbars) you would have about 3" - 3-1/2" of clearance. The bottom of the BaseLine Towers that hold the JetStream bar are about 1" lower so you need to keep that in mind as well. I doubt you will have clearance when you have an accessory mounted to the roof rack but I would imagine that you have enough roof to open the panoramic roof with the roof rack still installed. You can use the above measurements to verify if this will work or not.

If you don't already have a kayak carrier then I highly recommend the Yakima JayLow # Y04073 because it allows you to carry up to 2 kayaks, has a folding feature for when you aren't carrying your kayak, and uses the same key style as your roof rack. If you want to add the same key system to your roof rack and this carrier you just need the part # Y07206.

Attached is a sample installation video and a picture of this roof rack on a 2011 Sonata for you to reference. The picture doesn't have the panoramic roof but it will give you an idea of how the roof rack looks on your vehicle.
