Question:

Thanks for the fast and thorough response. Awesome! One thing i don’t have a sedan. I have the 5 door base 2.0i hatchback. Does that make any difference?

While we do have roof racks for your 2014 Subaru Impreza, the (discontinued) Custom Fit Kit WB-K473 you referenced is for various years and models of GM pickups and there isn't a Whispbar roof rack currently in production that fits your vehicle.

If you like the higher quality of a Whispbar product then you'll want to go with a Yakima roof rack as they actually manufacture the Whispbar brand. From what you were looking at I'm guessing you have a Sedan that isn't the WRX. For this you'll need the BaseLine Towers # Y28TR, Fit Kits # Y06127 and # Y06125, as well as 60" crossbars like the Black # Y00426 aluminum JetStream bars OR the steel CoreBar # Y00422.

For a more economical roof rack that is still a solid choice I recommend the Inno Aero roof rack which consists of their 48" and 51" Corssbars # INXB123-130, Through Feet # INXS350, and Fit Kit # INTR145.

The Yakima roof rack has a 125 lb weight rating while the Inno roof rack has a 140 lb weight rating. You would definitely be able to carry a canoe or kayak on them as long as the weight of the boat plus the carrier for the boat doesn't exceed the roof rack weight rating. For example, the Inno Locker Watersport Carrier # INA446 is a locking carrier that can carry 1 boat and it weighs in at 13 lbs so you'd subtract that from the roof rack weight rating to tell you the max weight of your boat.

It does change tower and fit kit that you need for the Yakima roof rack, but for the Inno roof rack you can still utilize the parts mentioned above. For the Yakima option you need to swap out the BaseLine Towers for the SkyLine Towers # Y00148 and then use the Landing Pad 22 # Y00248 as opposed to the Fit Kits mentioned above. So you'd need the following for either setup: Yakima: SkyLine Towers - # Y53TR Lansing Pad 22 - # Y00248 JetStream Bars - # Y00426 (Black) OR CoreBars - # Y00422 Inno: Through Feet - # INXS350 Fit Kit - # INTR145 48" and 51" Corssbars # - INXB123-130
