Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier for 2014 Chevy Cruze

SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack for Naked Roofs - Square Crossbars - Steel - 50inch Long - SR1010 This is the roof rack I am interested in buying for my chevy cruze. I want to buy a kayak rack system to attach to it, is this rack pretty universal allowing for any kayak rack to attach or in there specific ones that work with it?

The SportRack light-duty roof rack # SR1010 is a confirmed fit on your 2014 Chevy Cruze and it will be compatible with almost any roof-rack-mount kayak carrier since it uses square bars. But do please note that this rack has the lowest weight rating of all racks made for your car (90-lbs), so while it is a nice value it may not be the best choice for transporting a kayak.

If, for instance, you are planning to take just one 40 or 50-lb kayak only a short distance on local roads, not on the interstate at 70-mph for long distances, then this rack is fine and will work well with a J-style kayak carrier like Swagman's Contour # S65148.

If you are planning longer distance and higher speed travel with the kayak I recommend investing in a higher-capacity roof rack that will be more stable and secure. Although a good bit higher in cost the Yakima Baseline round bar rack system (parts # Y00408, # Y28TR, # Y03536, # Y06137 and # Y06127) offers both a higher weight rating AND it installs with a wider 30-inch bar spacing that means a more stable support for your kayak.
