Note: Tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the straps being used. For example, if you are using straps with a WLL of 500 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 1,000 lbs, then you need at least 2 straps to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

Today we'll be taking a look at the Smart Straps ratchet tie down strap with double J hooks. This is going to be a large oversized strap to get your heavy cargo tightened down and secure in your truck or your trailer.Has this large ratchet mechanism. So to open this up, you just grab the bottom and then open up the handle. And as you can see, it's already pulling in our strap. So we can get that all tightened down. Whenever you're ready to go, you just want to close it all the way and that's going to keep everything secure and nice and tight. To pull the strap back out, to let out the slack, open it up all the way and then you're going to grab this middle handle down here at the bottom and that will allow you to open it all the way up and then you can pull on the slack.
Now this can be a little bit tricky just because this mechanism is so huge. But once it's there, you should be able to rotate that center cylinder out.Since this is still pretty new, it's a little bit tight, but that's the gist of how that's going to work. And then to close it, just pull up on that handle again and we can flatten it back out. On either end will have large J hooks to get attached to a secure point on, again, a truck or trailer. So if you have some anchors or tie downs anywhere, those can hook right on and hold everything secure. Our strap measures 4" wide and it's also 30' long, so we'll have a good amount of length to get all our cargo tightened down.
Has a safe working load limit of 5,000 pounds and a maximum break strength of 15,000 pounds. It's always a good idea to use straps in pairs since then you'll be able to go off of the combined working load limit for those straps. So if we have something that's 10,000 pounds, we can use two of these straps and their combined working weight will be able to hold that securely. Now as far as some measurements for reference here, our ratchet mechanism is about 5 1/2" wide and about 12 1/2" long. Each of our J hooks is about 6" long. The end here is about 1 1/4".
And this opening from outside edge to outside edge is about 5 1/4" wide. Either side of that, the steel there is about 5/8 of an inch in diameter. So very heavy duty, large strap. Really kind of looks like it's made for giants hands, but it should definitely get your cargo tightened down and hold it securely for any of those larger items. It comes with a one year limited warranty from Smart Straps. And that's going to do it for our look at the Smart Strap ratchet tie down strap, with double J hooks.
