Video Transcript for Review of Erickson Ratchet Straps - Flatbed - Trailer - Truck Bed - EM82CV

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this 40 foot long Erickson Ratchet Tie-Down Strap with the Web Clamp, the double flat hooks, and a 3,300 pound working load limit. Now, this is a nice, heavy-duty tie-down strap, this will let you secure your large cargo in your truck bed or trailer. The strap dimensions on this is two inches wide by 40 feet in length. If you noticed the double flat hooks on each end here, this will anchor the strap to the tie-down points, and the ratchet mechanism right here makes it very easy to tighten your strap or maintain tension on the strap, gives you a nice, long, wide handle here, gives you a very good grip even if you have gloves on. And what's nice, you can see there's a handle here that you pull up on, that'll release it, and what you can do with that is to free wheel it, you can put it all the way in this position, and then that'll let you free wheel as much strap out as you need, and then once you lift up on this and put it back in the ratchet, then you can ratchet in what you need.

And then once you're tight all the way and you wanna lock it, you can pull up on it and go all the way this way and engage it, and then that'll lock it into place, keep it from unraveling. Now, they do use heat-treated, deburred low-carbon steel on this, this is plated, you can see it with a yellow dichromate for corrosion resistance. And this does offer, we mentioned this Web Clamp right here, this red handle here, this is spring loaded, you can see the Web Clamp, and this will hold any excess strap neatly in place on your ratchet handle. So I wanna pop up an insert just to show you. So when you have that extra strap hanging in there, you don't want it flapping around, you can just fold it up, put it under the spring-loaded Web Clamp, hold it into place.

This will help prevent the unused strap from tangling or flapping in the wind. Now, this is for a quantity of one ratchet strap. Maximum load or brake strength is 10,000 pounds, safe working load limit is 3,300 pounds, which is a third of the braking strength. And when you do factor in what you're gonna tie down is you do wanna use the working load limit. Basically, tie-down straps must be chosen according to the safe working load limit, meaning the weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined working load limit of the straps that are being used.

So just to give you an example, if you're using straps that have a working load limit of 500 pounds each, to tie down a load that weighs 1,000 pounds, then of course you'll need to use two straps to safely secure that load, and it is usually always recommended that you use straps in pairs. But again, just to show you how to ratchet, and then again, you can pull up, put it in the free wheel position that way, pull it this way, lock it up just like that, and then put your extra strap under this Web Clamp. But that should do it for the review on the 40 foot long Erickson Ratchet Tie-Down Strap with the Web Clamp and the double flat hooks.

We use these in dust, rain, snow and ice. They can handle the abuse. Sometimes other ratchets bind up and get hard to tighten down the load, but these ratchets work great even under stress. The spring strap trap is super handy for keeping the tail secure!
