Video Transcript for B and W Empty Turnoverball Socket Rubber Cover Review

Hey everybody, Ryan here at Etrailer. Today, we're gonna be checking out the line of B&W underbed turnover ball gooseneck trailer hitch covers. So, these B&W trailer hitches, as many of you know, are really nice. And if it we're me, I'd like to keep it that way. And one little extra step you can take is just to try to help keep the weather off of it, you know And you can achieve that by just using one of these covers. Now, there's gonna be two of them available.

And the only difference is the back here where it plugs in. So, this one here with these four prongs, that's gonna be used for those of you that store your ball in the hitch. And this one here is gonna be used whenever you decide not to keep the ball in the hitch. So whether you keep it inside the truck or something like that, this is the one you would use in. So with that said, let's go ahead and kinda just jump right in and check these out.

So, we'll look at this one first, the one that's designed to be used when the ball is in that stored position. So, we're done towing, flip that ball over, and the way this has gotta work, these prongs are gonna kinda catch inside of the turnover ball itself. So, I mean, super straight forward here. This is gonna push right into place. I will say it does have a good feel to it when you push down on it, it feels like it bites pretty good.

Whether or not it's going to stay like that over time and the weather and everything else, it's kinda hard to say, but just from how it goes in, I feel like it does a pretty good job of staying put and it'll definitely do a good job of keeping that weather and that moisture and everything else out of the turnover ball socket here. Something that some of our customers do kinda worry about is theft and definitely understandable. You definitely don't wanna have to replace a ball if you don't have to over someone running off with it. I feel like the cover would kinda help with that a little bit. You know, you don't have a shiny ball back here kinda drawing attention, kinda just helps blend in a little bit, make it a little bit cleaner back here in the bed as well.

But if you're someone that wants to avoid that situation completely and decide to choose to store your ball somewhere else, whether it be at home, in the garage or in the truck, whatever, what you can do is store it where you plan on it and opt for this cover that's designed to work when you don't have a ball in the socket. So, you can see it's got that square pattern there that fits right in there. And with this one, it fits nice and tight. So, I definitely don't see this one giving you any issues at all as far as getting loose or anything like that. And when you push it down, you can kinda feel it almost seal. So honestly, it should do a great job of, you know, keeping all that dirt and debris, moisture, things like that, especially for those of you that use your truck to work and you might load up a bunch of material back here, whether it be gravel or mulch, something like that. You know, you're not gonna have to worry about that junk falling down in there and making your hitch kind of a pain to use. So, an easy stuff that you can take to keep everything in good working order. So with any B&W product, these things are well-made. They're actually thick rubber, not flimsy, little thin caps that are gonna fall apart. So, should get some use out of them. And honestly, if it we're me, which one I would choose, it kinda just depend on my particular situation. If I was somebody that parked my truck outside all the time and the bed was exposed, so you didn't have a tonneau covers or anything like that, I would probably choose to keep my ball inside the trunk or in the house and use the cover for the empty socket. On the other hand, if I parked in the garage overnights and had a tonneau cover, things like that, I'd probably just keep my ball in the hitch and use the cover for that. That way, it's a little more secure and things like that. If you have had issues in the past with security as far as stuff inside of your bed goes, a tonneau cover really does help kinda cover that issue. And if that's something you think you would wanna look into, we offer many different types of types of tonneau covers right here at Etrailer. So, at the end of the day, I mean it is a trailer hitch cover, but it is going to achieve a few things, help keeping it more secure and protected and things like that. And honestly, I look at it as kind of the finishing touch for a really nice trailer hitch. And that'll finish up our look at of the line of B&W under bed gooseneck trailer hitch covers..

B&W Rubber Cover for Stowed Turnoverball - BWGNXA1710

Average Customer Rating:  4.7 out of 5 stars   (311 Customer Reviews)

Rubber cover protects your gooseneck receiver hole from dirt and debris. Designed for use with your B&W Turnoverball. Cover fits over Turnoverball socket in truck beds that allow you to store your Turnoverball in place.

by:

This cover protects your turnover ball from the elements when stowed and looks good doing it. Highly recommended.

by:

Great complement to the B&W turnover ball hitch! etrailer was the only place I could find it. Great customer service and fast shipping.

by:

Makes a clean look. Love it. The only reason I give it 4 vs 5 stars is because I wish it was a slightly tighter fit (but it's not a bad fit.) Just not tight enough.

by:

Nice to be able to cover the hole. Seems to pop off a little too easy though.

by:

The plug essentially sits on top of the ball and does not secure to it in any way, making it not stay in place at all. It is a total waste of money.

by:

Finishing touch to the hitch!!

by:

Like the looks of the cover not to sure of how it attaches but time will tell

by:

The high quality is apparent with this hitch. It is made well and thoroughly thought out for easiest possible install. The value is very high!

However the instructions were incorrect for the distance to drill the hole in the bed. It said 45 1/2” from end of bed. But It should have been 45 7/8” - 46”. Caused a slight issue for our install. I had to ream out the hole on the cab side to get it to fit. Which left a large 1/4” gap on the side closest to the rear of the bed. Most of these new truck have a circle area cast in them where the hidden hitch hole should go. I recommend centering your drill bit in that and drilling instead of using the measurements in the instructions. I considered doing that, but depended on the instructions instead. Bad choice! Not pleased with that! Further, the instructions don’t give torque specs.

by:

Fit perfectly.....fast shipping too

by:

Fits snugly in the opening for the turnover ball. Helps keep the rain out when not in use.

by:

Thanks for all the information on such a big and important purchase. Great photos and even better videos!

At first I looked for a shop to install my hitch, but after watching your videos I decided to go for it myself. If you read the directions carefully and have average wrenching skills the B & W underbed install for gooseneck was pretty straightforward.

It took perhaps 4 hours for me to install. Now I KNOW it was installed correctly and understand the hitch system to a t. Great product. Hooked up to my 15,000 lb fifth wheel and towed with ease using the Companion 5th wheel set up that is designed to be used with the underbed gooseneck.

Everything was delivered on time and in great condition and the quality of the B&W is outstanding. Thank you!

by:

A bit pricey for a piece of rubber, but when installed over the hitch hole in the box bed, it eliminates debris from getting into the ball socket. Rubber prongs keep it in place, and the design gives it a finished look. Super fast delivery. Great product

by:

Great aftermarket product. Installation straightforward but getting torque on nut/bolt is space limited depending on truck. Works as advertised and capable as advertised.

by:

Very well made, and exceptionally rugged. I had this installed in my 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 HD by a local spring shop that works primarily with heavy commercial trucks, as my truck did not have a 5th Wheel/Gooseneck package. They were very impressed with construction, fit, finish and ease of installation. I also purchased the B&W Companion 5th Wheel hitch to go along with it, to tow my 14k lbs. camper. I have just completed a 1200 mile trip towing camper from Wisconsin to northern New England, and I was very pleased with the performance of both components.

by:

Heavy duty rubber. Works good when the bed is empty. Will pop out fairly easy if something makes contact with it. Wish it fit tighter.

Robert

After a year it works as it did the first day. Fits in place and does the job if the bed is empty. If the bed is not empty and items in the bed make contact with it, it pops out. Product needs to fit in place tighter.

by:

Fits well.

by:

Seems to fit tight should keep most of the water and dirt out of the gooseneck hole

by:

This thing in great, just note that it only works when the ball is turned over in the hitch and it doesn't work on the empty hitch hole. I only use my ball in the summer, so I store it in the garage in the winter to prevent rust. I can't use this plug for the hole in the bed in the winter because the ball isn't in there to plug it into. Works great when the ball is turned over in there, though. A little pricey for a chunk of rubber, but it works.

by:

Great customer service. I appreciate that many of their products are USA made.

by:

This is a great quality cover but doesn't really fit in my case because I have a bed mat. The hole that I cut in my bed mat is smaller than this cover so I'm trying to decide if I should enlarge the hole or just put it under the bed mat.

I would recommend enlarging the hole so that it is easier to remove the cover when you want to use the gooseneck hitch.

by:

Good Product. Easy to order, and it came very quickly. It fits right in to the back side of the B&W Hide a Ball Hitch. The rubber is thick, and it fits snugly. I just installed it so not sure how it will work when taking things in and out of the bed. B&W should include this with every Hide a Ball hitch they sell.

by:

Clean look

by:

Helps to keep snow and other debris out of the hitch. Lots easier to flip the hitch over in the winter time.

Great! Keeps the bottom of the ball clean from debris, freezing in place and allows room in the bed to haul large items quickly.

by:

Product fits perfectly, keeping reversed hitch clean of debris. Shipping was fast.

Soft rubber, tight fit keeps water/ debris out

  • Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch Rubber Cover
The B&W Rubber Cover for Stowed Turnoverball # BWGNXA1710 will not fit on the bottom of the Turnoverball unit. You don't want moisture to be held in, so putting a plug on the underside wouldn't be recommended even if it did fit. You want moisture to drain out of the socket. The hitch pin is designed to resist corrosion and the assembly is powder coated to resist corrosion as well. The cover is a great option for when the ball is flipped and it actually fits the underside of the ball...

Great question! There are a couple of options for covering up the gooseneck hole on a B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch and the correct part just depends on if you will have the hitch ball in the stowed position or completely removed: Cover for Stowed Hitch Ball - # BWGNXA1710 Cover for Empty Socket - # BWGNXA1715 Since you're removing the Companion 5th wheel hitch it sounds like you need the Empty Socket # BWGNXA1715 cover.
