Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. In addition, you do not have to worry about an electric fan's slowing down at low RPM, as many belt-driven fans do, so you are guaranteed sufficient airflow regardless of the vehicle speed.

Before purchasing an electric fan, be sure to determine the CFM (cubic feet per minute) requirements for your engine. And remember, engines that have been modified or vehicles often used for towing may require additional CFM. There is no limit to the number of fans you can install, as long they all fit appropriately and are mounted on the same side of your radiator so that they do not cancel each other out.

Two types of turn-on sources are available for this fan. The Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans (D16740) allows for manual control of your fan so that you can choose when to turn it on and off. Thermostatic controls, on the other hand, send a signal to the fan, directing it to shut off when fluid temperatures reach an appropriate level, thus saving power. Once the temperature climbs again and additional cooling is needed, the fan is automatically turned back on. Thermostat switches can be single-stage with pre-set temperatures - D16735, D16738, D16739, D16720 and D16721 - or adjustable - D16778 and D16779.

This is the thinest high flow fan i could find on the market, and it's a perfect fit on an FJ40 radiator! The installation was very simple and was complete in 20min.

The fan was overheated and burned down after the small work duration half an hour ! under a car cowl. Some plastic mass melted and flowed out from the electric fan motor - thereby the rotor has been stopped by a melted mass and thereof coils have overheated and have burned down. It is obviously visible miscalculations in use of a material inside the engine.THE FAN COULD BE INSTALLED ONLY BEFORE THE RADIATOR.AND NOT AFTER THE DADIATOR.The service engineering department did not answer my questions from 2011.I am rather upset concerning quality of this product. I have referred the advertizing of the manufacturer and didnt expect such poor quality.

Thank you for information. What vehicle and motor was this used on? Was it a single fan or dual fan setup?

I bought this electric fan for my 65 mustang 289cd, trying to keep engine cool, but after taking awhile to install the electric fan did not do what I thought it would do. Engine temp. went to high almust to 240degrees. Tried to make work changed by changing thermostats, but nothing kept temp. done.
Changed back to oringal fan, temp came down. But the electric fan in garage. Fan work fine, but did not cool my engine.

by:

Used in my 51 F1. It is thicker than most so make sure you have the room for it.
It works good and seems to be built very well.

  • Electric Fan and Shroud Recommendation for a 1952 Chevy 3100 Truck
I think your best option would be the Derale 17 inch High-Output, Electric Radiator Fan w/ Aluminum Shroud # D16816. You will want to check the dimensions to be sure that this will fit behind your radiator, but it has the same size fan as the # D18217 that you referenced plus a shroud.

  • Recommended Radiator Fan for 1950 Chevy Truck
For your 1950 Chevy truck I recommend taking a look at the Derale High-Output Electric Radiator Fan # D16816. This radiator fan features an aluminum shroud and works as a puller unit. The unit has overall dimensions of 16-3/4 inches wide, 17-5/8 inches tall, and 3 inches deep. You will just want to make sure that you have the necessary space to mount the fan behind your radiator. For a higher CFM unit we also have the Derale 26" # D16927. This is a dual electric fan assembly that measures...

  • 17 Inch Electric Fan Recommendation
The part # D19118 that you referenced is a manual cooling fan designed to fit automobiles. I am not sure what type of application you are looking for but this fan doesn't have a lift capacity or a recommended motor. If instead you are looking for an electric cooling fan that is 17 inches in diameter you would want the # D18217. This fan is rated for 2,400 CFM (cubic feet per minute), and draws up to 23.5 amps at 12 volts.

  • Comparing Derale Radiator Fans # D18217 and # D16217
Radiator fan # D18217 includes rods and pads for mounting whereas fan # D16217 includes a mounting kit made up of more pieces. I have included a picture that shows the mounting hardware included with each fan. The additional hardware included with the D16217 fan would be for someone who cannot or does not want to attach the fan using just the simple rods and pads.

  • Recommended Electric Radiator Fan for a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer
I do have a way for you to determine fit but I don't have any measurements of your 2002 Chevrolet Blazer so what you will need to do in order to confirm fit of the Derale 29" High-Output Electric Radiator Fan-and-Shroud Assembly part # D16928 is measure the space you have behind your radiator. This unit requires 28-5/8" wide x 13-7/8" tall x 3-1/4" deep of space to mount. If you have a clutch fan then you need to be especially careful of the depth measurement. If you do not have space...

  • Electric Radiator Fan for a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder
The type of electric fan you use in your 1995 Nissan Pathfinder is going to depend on how much space is available under the hood. There are fans as small as 4 inches diameter and 2-3/8 inches deep and as large as 32 inches and 3-1/4 inches deep. There is likely more space in front of the radiator than behind it. A fan such as # D18217 is 17 inches in diameter and 2-5/8 inches deep. You would need to measure the available space to determine if this fan will fit or if you need to go smaller...

  • Recommended Engine and Transmission Coolers for 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT V8
Towing will put an additional heat burden on both your engine cooling system and your transmission. A higher capacity radiator will certainly drop your engine temp when you're towing with your Dakota, but an easier and less-costly alternative is to simply add a powered fan like the Derale # D18217. Radiator upgrade are usually needed only for extreme applications like racing. This fan is a push or pull type so it can be mounted on the inside of your radiator (space permitting of course)...

  • Options for a 17 inch Pusher Electric Radiator Fan
Derale 17 inch electric fans # D16217 and # D18217 can be used as pusher or puller fans. They can be mounted on either side of the radiator, as a pusher or puller, without having to flip blades or switch motor leads. This isn't a 17 inch version pusher that has the shroud. • Replacing Clutch Radiator Fan with an Electric Fan on a 1999 GMC Yukon
Pushers are more efficient and more common. A puller is typically only installed when you don't have enough room between your engine and your radiator. It looks like your 1999 GMC Yukon has a 5.7 L V8 engine which means you would want to shoot for a CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) range of 2,200 - 3,000. The most popular fan that we have in this range is the Derale 17" Radiator Fan # D18217 which has an output of 2,400 CFM. When it comes to fitting your vehicle it really just depends on what...

  • Can Derale Dual High-Output Electric Radiator Fan Part # D16927 Be Used with Stock Belt Fan
To use the Derale Dual High-Output Electric Radiator Fan, part # D16927, in your 1956 Chevrolet with 350 small block you will need to be able to fit the 3-3/4-inch-deep fan housing between the radiator and the engine. (This is a puller fan which draws air in through the front of the radiator; it mounts behind the radiator.) The overall dimensions of the fan housing are 26-inches wide x 18 inches tall x 3-3/4-inches deep. This dual-fan has an output capacity of 4000 cubic-feet-per-minute...

  • 17 inch Fan Recommendation for Use with the Derale Adjustable Fan-Control Thermostat D16749
Sounds like you factory fan draws too much amperage to function properly with the # D16749. The # D16749 has a maximum capacity of 25 amps, so as long as you get a replacement fan that draws less than that you would be fine. For a fan that draws less than that and can flow up to 2,400 CFM you would want the # D18217. The high speed power draw is 23.5 amps and the low speed draw is 17.4 amps.

For your 1972 Dodge B300 Sportsman Motorhome, I recommend the Derale 17" High-Output, Electric, Single Radiator Fan - 2,400 CFM # D18217. When it comes to cooling your radiator, the bigger the better, and this is the largest fan we carry. This will be a great fit for your 26.5 inch by 18 inch radiator core. • Can Derale D16928 be Used as Pusher Fan
The Derale fan you asked about is only able to be used as a puller, so it wouldn't work as a pusher application. And these electric fans should be mounted inside the engine compartment as opposed to outside (you wouldn't want it exposed to the elements). The best option we can offer if you have limited clearance is a pusher fan with as little depth as possible: - Derale 17" High-Output, Electric, Single Radiator Fan - 2,400 CFM # D18217 This is a single fan which is 16-7/8" wide x 16-7/8"...

  • Recommended Radiator Fan For 2012 Chevrolet Express Van
One thing to consider when installing a radiator fan is the amount of room you have for installation. I recommend installing a fan in front of the radiator. You will want a fan that has a high CFM(cubic feet per minute). If you have the room I recommend a fan like the Derale, part # D18217. This fan has a high output of 2,400 CFM on high speed and 1,800 on low. The fan overall dimensions are 16-7/8 inches wide x 16-7/8 inches tall x 2-5/8 inches deep. If you find the fan will not fit...
